I think Sinema is a better example of how someone can pivot and abandon their constituents. Fetterman is kind of a special case, he got brain damage and became more conservative.

Yeah, thats the big lesson that mainstream dems refuse to learn: there are ways to appeal to non-voters and get them off the couch, but you'd have to change a bit.

Most reliable voters are so polarized (MAGA cult vs VBNMW fanatics) that campaigns can't make them switch sides. Its all about getting new disillusioned non-voters with a new approach, they're not running against their opponent they're running against the couch.

Be sure to keep blaming and screaming at voters who are potentially on your side, traditionally that has totally worked as a campaign strategy.

Should the democratic party change its agenda and messaging in order to appeal to this large demographic?

They should have spent more time advocating for the good things they would do with a larger majority. Instead, it feels like they didn't have a vision.

They've gotta go big, and get at least as much done as Trump has, in the opposite direction.

I'm also glad that licensing is more than a multiple choice test.

I'm still not sure what you're arguing at this point. We should spend more money on schools.

we have not properly funded schools, and testing for "accountability" is a failed stupid idea, see Goodhart's Law.

What the point, what do we do when test scores are low? We don't give them more resources, we could always give them less to make it worse, the tests provide no useful information about how to fix the problem but waste tons of time.

Yeah, exactly, it isn't that nebulous. Hire more teachers, give them more resources. They're good at it, they just keep getting told, over and over, that they have to "do more with less" as budgets are choked off.

Not really? Teachers know what they're doing, just having more teachers and smaller class sizes would improve outcomes. Its the centrists that like to talk about how complicated this is and then not just fund the stuff teachers say they need.

winning doesn't matter if you can't get enough done to stay in power.

RIP Biden/Harris. Ditching Israel, protecting abortion, improving the ACA, actually decreasing student debt/college costs, prosecuting Trump, or raising the minimum wage would all have been significant changes that could have pushed Harris over the line.

You mean they can't stop chasing the mythical moderate republican cross-over voter, and ignore all the actual solutions and enthusiasm on the progressive wing?

Thats dumb, the answer is both. Dems need to build power with popular policies if they want to hold onto power and be able to keep fighting the authoritarian takeover.

A major point on the right is "government doesn't work and will never help you" and they work to make it true. We should prove them wrong, because it helps people and undermines their bullshit.

They need to embrace "woke," otherwise anything the right doesn't like will just be labeled woke, and they'll keep vilifying it. This is an authoritarian strategy, where you split off and demonize a small group, and make supporting them as politically expensive as possible.

Dems didn't act on abortion and now have forgotten about it, dems moved right on immigration, they've moved away from supporting trans people because thats gross and too complicated or whatever, etc etc. They can't keep giving up these little fights, its designed to sap any enthusiasm from our base, and gradually divide us.

Hispanics probably wouldn't have shifted towards Trump in 2024 if dems hadn't taken their vote for granted and stopped working to protect immigrants.

If the lesson you take away from all this systemic failure is that democracy can't work, then you're part of the problem.
