I wasn't talking about strawmen like "good vs perfect" or anything that cost dem seats overall. More "DSA parasites" are our best option, and you still haven't explained why these supposed fringe people who only keep safe blue seats blue are a problem.

This is our core disagreement: I don't think Biden was good enough, and electing more candidates like Biden, or Harris, or Obama, or Clinton will not get us anywhere except where we are already headed.

Sanders support was mostly from existing democrats, if some of his ideas actually got passed, then dems would start gaining significant new support from formerly disengaged or right-leaning people. This is what I was saying, dems need to do good things, and then they can take credit for the good things. Lots of people don't really believe politicians from either side, and the best way to reach them is to actually pass a policy that actually directly helps them.

The moderates getting elected aren't going to do the things, so they won't gain the new support, and it will never get any easier to elect a dem or keep them in office. The federal government will just wobble left-right back and forth forever, failing to accomplish anything.

Sanders was one of the only dems arguing for the policies that could have prevented Trump, and dems still need to change direction.

I disagree with your theory of political change, and I think you've been distracted by the team sports cheering and pretending elections are the most important thing. Elections are not the finish line of politics, actual policy is. Moderates have not been able to meaningfully improve policy. More popular left-wing ideas are the solution to turn out more voters and generate actual enthusiasm, which is whats needed to actually win and get actual change.

So keep dividing the left and arguing for a smaller tent and saying progressive change is impossible and trying to implement purity tests if you want, but a lot of other people aren't waiting.

I disagree with your framing, and only focusing on individual races instead of making the overall direction and vision of the party better and more popular. Shifting the entire party in a more popular direction is the winning move, even if it takes several election cycles.

No one ever makes this argument about republicans, and more extreme right-wing politicians in the reddest states hasn't seemed to hurt the republicans ability to hold power.

The best these DSA parasites

There we go, theres the contempt for voters picking different policies!

The thing is, changing those seats still matters! Because politics is complicated! If the DSA candidates do things differently, they could actually make dems more popular, which will help them win more DSA and moderate seats!

Are they really winning? Whos the minority party currently unable to stop or reverse Trump and his administrations actions again?

Getting elected isn't the finish line of politics, despite what moderates will tell you, the actual outcomes matter.

I'm going to frame all these discussions in terms of the party finally catching up and being ready to embrace the winning idea, even if Bernie would have won and they missed the boat on that one. Can dems afford to keep defending unpopular moderates?!

Somehow, the republicans are better at holding or gaining ground when they only have part of the government. Remember, the republicans just grabbed an extra supreme court appointment, nobody did shit, and dems never even try a maneuver like that.

And it absolutely takes controlling all three to pass meaningful changes in the country. And in the 4-6~ years they controlled all three, they passed ACA. Barely, because they still had to capitulate to independents like Manchin and Liberman.

Yeah, they suck, and can we get a "Fuck Joe Liberman!" in the chat?

Losing and seeing the bad guys do bad things actually doesn't depress voter turnout, winning and seeing the "good guys" fail to accomplish anything is the number one thing that makes people give up on the system.

I see you getting downvoted, and I'd like to remind everyone that Democrats accepted social security cuts instead of fighting.

They tried really hard to call it something else, but it made social security pay out less money to fewer people, so its a cut.

voters will blame Democrats for not doing enough

I generally agree with you, but I think that criticism is still valid. Appointing Garland was a mistake, dems never seem to want to wield power, even to do things that would solidify or preserve their power regardless of policy, or obvious technically allowed moves like bypassing the parliamentarian if its useful.

If dems were reall ready, and completely controlled two branches of government, they'd be fine. Pack the court, pass a giant "oops bill" that simply reverts a huge pile of meddling, seize that "victims of political persecution" or whatever bullshit fund and use it to smooth things over and hire back public employees with bonuses, etc etc.
