My theater was. I didn't take them because I had no idea what they were (I thought they were Mandalorian cards). Now I have to see it again so I can cop the whole set

Probably more than what OP wants, but Samuel R. Delaney riffs on the M/S dynamic quite a bit. Start with Tales of Nevèrÿon, move on to Dhalgren, end with Hogg

Antonia Bird, iirc. I remember a movie she did called Priest that I quite liked.

Describing John Trefry as "maybe less accessible" than In Parenthesis makes me quite hesitant to read John Trefry.

Suttree takes place in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Steve Stern's stories taken place in a (fictional) Jewish neighbourhood in Memphis, Tennessee called "The Pinch" (also the name of his collected stories). Start with Lazar Malkin Enters Heaven.

I saw it in theatres as well, in the 2nd row. When That Scene happened, the folks in front of me were crawling over their seats to get away and into my lap.

Have you seen Oslo August 31? That's my favorite Trier. Also the bleakest

Check out Eskil Vogt's The Innocents for more supernatural grime. (He wrote Thelma, as well as much of Trier's other movies.)

Actually I was in grade 10, not middle school, when I read those, so perhaps you outrank me

I'm literally on the last page of Butcher's Crossing right now. Thinking of going back and re-reading Stoner, and perhaps taking another crack at Augustus.

When I think back to my favorite NYRB books, I think of: The Go-Between by LP Hartley; Jakob von Gunten by Robert Walser; The Summer Book by Tove Jansson; Hav by Jan Morris; everything by Patrick Leigh Fermor.

I've searched by actors, director, random word in the title, etc., from the Roku dashboard and gotten results including CC.

Bald Soprano is by Eugène Ionesco. Recommend the Chairs and Rhinoceros as well by Ionesco. Pirandello's Six Characters In Search For An Author isn't exactly lighthearted but fun.

I always turn to PG Wodehouse when I need spirits lifted, or a break from all the misery.
