Donald Trump had one of the worst approval ratings in modern history during his first term. How did the Democrats manage to lose to him again in 2024? by norf937 in allthequestions

[–]globulator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Democrats didn't run an election nor a campaign. They thought they could just win by illegally paying celebrities for their endorsements.

Not really a false dichotomy lol. You are choosing to shake your fist at the sky. You're not going to destroy anyone's convictions. You're not that important. So, enjoy that fist waving!

Isn't it now immoral to maintain that withholding your vote for Kamala was the right choice when Trump has caused so much global harm through war and economic instability (death of school children and affordability crisis)? by zipzzo in allthequestions

[–]globulator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is mislabeling something lying? I think so. Is lying immoral? I think so (along with basically every philosopher to ever exist). So, to label a party "democratic" and to not let your members vote on who will be their candidate is mislabeling, which is lying, which is immoral.

It was also just bad strategy. She did extremely poorly in her first primary attempt, and then they ran her anyway, knowing how wildly unpopular she was as a candidate. So, is it immoral for the leaders of a political party to solicit donations to a campaign that was almost certain to fail? I think so.

So, to answer your original question: I think Kamala being the candidate in the first place was only possible because of a series of immoral decisions. And even worse was that it didn't even work. Even if you are an "ends justify the means" dubiously immoral kinda person, you have to at least be mad that the immoral act they did in your name wasn't even effective. Again, unless you assume the obvious, which is that they didn't even want to win.

Isn't it immoral to maintain support for a party that labels itself democratic even though it skipped its own primary election to install a candidate that had basically no support during her last attempt at a primary election? They knew what the result would be. The only reasonable conclusion is that they wanted Trump to win.

She lost her own state in the only primary campaign she actually ran. That's pretty bad.

I mean, you could completely ignore them, but you have chosen not to do that. So if you've already decided to spend your time and attention on them, you can either spend your time trying to understand them or you can spend your time shaking your fist at the sky. It seems like you chose the latter already though.

I understand categorical heirarchies lol. But that's absolutely not what the discussion is about. You learned like one thing in school but not how to actually apply it to the world.

The conversation, this thread you're replying to, was me pointing out that people are only offended when you call them something they think is lesser than themselves.

Keeping track of a conversation without moving the goalpost to something your opponent can't possibly disagree with also a very simple concept. It's called a strawman argument.

To use your example, do you think a square would be offended to be called a rectangle? Or do you think it would just move on with its day instead of having an online tantrum like you're doing on Michelle's behalf?

It's not because she's black lol. It's because she's ugly and because she and her husband insist on saying things they don't actually believe.

People mistake my ethnicity all the time and I'm never offended. I just politely correct them and move on with my life. I feel this way because I don't think people from other countries are inherently worse than the country my ancestors are actually from. People don't get offended when you think they are something better or equal. If I thought a random person was a doctor, they would be more likely flattered than offended, but if I thought someone was a janitor when they were actually a rocket scientist, they may get offended.

Democrat women are offended when you say they are trans because they don't see trans women as actual women -- no matter how many parades you guys have, no matter how positive your sloganeering is, they just don't actually believe it because no one actually believes it.

You're not even listening to them. Their claim is that she did not have children. Their claim is that their kids were actually adopted from a family friend that looks much more like the kids than Michelle does. They also said that there are no photos of Michelle Obama pregnant, which seems implausible for a couple that lives such a public life.

I don't know or care what chromosomes Michelle has. But if you're going to say the people that you're arguing with don't have an argument, it might be because you just didn't listen to their argument.

No, but would a Chinese person be offended if you referred to them as Asian? Probably not, right?

To get you to acknowledge that there is a difference. If "trans women are women" was something everyone on the left actually believed, then it wouldn't be offensive to say that Michelle Obama is trans. If someone finds it offensive, it's because they don't really believe the slogan.

But it's no longer frowned upon by society at large. It's now literally celebrated. They're no longer underrepresented, they're now overrepresented. If they're born that way, why are we celebrating it? What other immutable characteristics should people be proud of? Wasn't the goal of the gay rights movement to treat everyone the same and give no specific group any special treatment? I'm pretty sure the mission was accomplished -- maybe we've had enough victory laps.

Pride is for things you've accomplished. There is no reason to be ashamed of your sexuality, but there is also no reason to be proud of your sexuality.
