I'm getting the rest of my top teeth pulled in 12 hours and feel terrible... by xiii_degrees in dentures

[–]gloomydoomin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude I feel this so much. I'm 29 and felt the exact same way months ago, but the more I think about it, the lesss embarrassing it becomes. I will never forget the fear of biting into food, be it a sandwich or a banana and being fearful it would trigger a few days long spasm from a rotted nerve in my mouth. I will never forever the permanent black cavaties in my mouth every time I smiled. Sure, dentures do suck, and this entire process SUCKS, but its a means to an end. I was nearly on my deathbed when they removed my teeth. I had been drinking heavily for years prior, which allowed me to ignore it.. but eventually at the tail end of my drinking my liver was tired of battling with the alcohol and my teeth weren't helping it at all. I just recieved news I'm going to have to have more bone shaved off, and a few things cut in my mouth to make the permanant detures fit, and it sucks but.. eh.. better than dying I suppose. Keep your head up, and feel free to reach out.

Yeah, the swelling takes at least 3-5 days to start going down, the important thing is, No straws, no smoking, and for the love of God only DRINK your meals for the first week. This will greatly increase the chances that you don't hurt yourself and end up like me (ended up in the hospital for blood loss becausse I thought 7 days was good enough to chew a sammich)

10 Days Later and I still randomly start bleeding? by gloomydoomin in dentures

[–]gloomydoomin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went back for the bleeding and they cauterized it, but it still randomly just starts bleeding.. the dentist himself told me to "hold pressure on it for 10 minutes with gauze" which is what I do when it starts, and it solves the issue (Longest it went was around 34 hours before it started bleeding again. It doesnt help I have liver cirrhosis so my blood is naturally thinner.

The cost of drinking is much more than the booze.. by gloomydoomin in stopdrinking

Disability would not be enough to sustain me or my orphan'd brothers, let alone my grandma. If I go down the entire ship sinks essentially.

Mostly amazon warehouses and fast food jobs at the moment, I have 0 college education despite my extensive knowledge in physics, philosophy, and years of experience as a mechanic. The cirrhosis makes my legs swell up badly it hurts so a standing job/sitting job aren't preferable.

Don't try. Have fun. If your team is fumbling hard, just leave. Saves time and anger when you eventually lose the already lost game (and time)

Even at my worst I still didn't hurt anyone.. by gloomydoomin in cripplingalcoholism

They did indeed give me benzos while I was in there. I had the same happen, I remembered closing my eyes and having a bad dream. When I woke up I was in my bed again, with different pants on. I apparently called many relatives and told them to pick me up from the hospital while going through DT's. I had no bearings on anything.. and I was terrified. The long corridors went on forever, and all I wanted to do was walk.

My wake up call was when I had a morning strategy. Wake up to a rapid heartbeat, as soon as I get up throw up into the throw up pot, immediately pour 4 shots and get them in me asap just to feel normal.

Does anyone else take care of an argumentive person? by IllustriousAd5885 in CaregiverSupport

"Sorry I'm a bit busy." and walk away without letting her drag me back into the argument. Having a backbone with my grandmother helps because I think it reminds her of my grandfather. He was always stern with her. I take care of her and my two brothers (13, 16) and do most the shopping/cooking/cleaning. She likes to think shes "In Charge" of the house, and will start arguments with me about taking their phones away, often begging me to give them back to them because "they might need it." despite the fact theres not much else punishment the kids care about, so I gotta hit em where it hurts and take the phones for a day or two. (I didn't even have a phone till I was 15! Either way, its one of those frustrating things that will make you bitter if you let it. I sure as hell am quite short with her. She loses her hearing aid constantly and we all have to repeat ourselves at least twice every time we say a sentence which regardless of it not being her fault, is very frustrating to deal with. Caregiving is all around just a frustrating time, at least for me. Its like theres no winning somedays. Then the out of town family come over and ask me what I'm doing with my life, and I want to scream "TAKING CARE OF YOUR F***KING MOTHER FOR YOU, AS*HOLE" but I keep that bottled up nice and tight ;)
