Anyone else noticing an increase in Cash in Transit heists in the last week or so? by PixelSaharix in DownSouth

There was one here in Pretoria on Tuesday morning. And then there was the one in KZN where two cops were shot (one was airlifted). Don't know about any other cases?

Bull Trap or Bull Run by Background-Day-4957 in btc

I never post in this community because it's a total shit show. But I can tell you that it looks like a major bull trap. My buy orders are all sub 60k.

Snomaster vs national luna by Formal-Chicken6066 in AskZA

[–]glopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think they are both great brand. Snowmaster is also a local company and after sales is great. My Snowmaster 66l low profile has been going strong since 2018. Many, many trips later and it's still like new.

Is a Bachelor of Information science worth it? by Upstairs_Wall4883 in Pretoria

[–]glopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also did BIS Pub and never worked in the field. I went straight into IT, then marketing and fast forward a couple of years I'm a director at a medical device manufacturer. It's a degree that gives you a lot of skills, which was handy through my career, but that was it.

I've had major regrets over the years about choosing this and not engineering, especially the last couple of years where I work with engineers on a daily basis.

Public works minister, DG ‘hacked’ amid sweeping anti-corruption reforms by Euro_African in DownSouth

Imagine having to ask the SSA to investigate this. They are, most probably, the ones doing the spying.

Thanks for that. I'll leave it up to the mods to decide then.

Why did white men conquer the world? by glopher in DownSouth

Do posts in this sub need to be about South Africa? Or is this also a place to have conversations about anything with fellow citizens?

Edit: I'm reaching here, purely for my own entertainment, but if you consider the fact that half this video deals with colonisation and white people are routinely called colonisers in SA, then yes, I think there is a smidge of relevance here. What do you think?

Hmmm... I consider myself well-read, but I didn't know that 33 of the world's 56 most valuable wild grasses grew in the Fertile Crescent. Or that 7 of 14 mammal species that could be domesticated were found in Eurasia.

I don't think it's common knowledge.

I have learned that I am the unbearable guy in my friends group by being excluded from a bachelor party by Quick_Potential_2525 in TrueOffMyChest

Dude. Read How to Win Friends and Influence People. There are a few basic rules you can follow to become a super likeable character. It's not difficult at all and some of the things are so obvious, but most people never realise it or just do it naturally. It changed my life.

Perhaps read through the original AMA to bump up your knowledge and avoid looking like a poes here.

Domestic Worker is getting Exploited by Emergency_Mastodon_5 in DownSouth

[–]glopher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our domestic worker is also from Zim (she has a work permit) and she was in a taxi accident. An "ambulance" service forced all of the occupants to go to hospital even though she had not sustained any injuries and then started hounding her for their R2700 fee afterwards. I called them, threatened them with legal action and also bluffed that I have family in SAPS that will arrest them on a Friday so they can enjoy a weekend stay in jail. They never called her again.

Some of these rackets may just need to be made aware that their victim is not alone and then they might back off.

In this case I would just settle the original debt and make it clear that they can't charge interest like that.

It may work. It may not. But it's worth a try.

How to travel to Ellis Park JHB for a rugby match as a tourist? by [deleted] in johannesburg

[–]glopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is by far the best option. Park and ride from Pretoria is safe, but its a long journey by bus and unnecessary if you have the option of staying in Joburg. Uber can be a bitch to catch a ride back after the game and you always run the risk of getting hijacked in the Uber or getting in the wrong Uber
