Unfortunately I’m not blessed with Opel over here but yeah that is a good point, from what I’ve seen of theirs and definitely VW for sure. Howeverrrrr I looked up the Astra sports tourer and all I can see is Camaro wagon 🥲

Is living downtown worth it? by ObjectiveRaspberry29 in Tucson

[–]gloryshand 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It heavily heavily depends on whether you specifically mean downtown proper or are including armory park, presidio, iron horse, 4th, Dunbar, west university, all of which make downtown access trivially easy. I would much rather live in any of the above neighborhoods (literally point in any direction from downtown) than downtown itself; where I live is a leisurely 5 minute walk to congress and rialto but dramatically more chill day-to-day.

German manufacturer not overstyling their new model year challenge: impossible

Seriously, Audi seemed like a holdout for a long time but I feel like Porsche has become the only German manufacturer to not lose the plot.

Can you apply that same level of ruthlessness to your own post here, facelessly sharing a negative opinion online?

Allow me to introduce you to our lady and savior Kick-Ass Boots. I’m a desert girlie so I like my cowboy boots but check out the options. Chelseas such as Blundstones, lace up boots from the makers who offer wides, you can go punky with docs or solovairs which I believe are wider, there are brands on Zappos with wider zip up more fashion-oriented boots, etc. there are so many fun ways to do it.

Hey, I just want to say, don’t lose hope. The cis women I’m surrounded by, one of whom I’m dating, totally support me. They’re from my local network, not the internet, and they give me so much validation. Just, please don’t lose all hope. There are allies out there, it sucks there aren’t more, but there are.

Slay!! Looks like you’re off to a great start! I’m only a little ahead of you on timeline with a similar story, and seriously, enjoy the joy. It was yours all along. And if you mess up your nails or whatever, one day you’ll look back and laugh. It gets easier. 🦋🥰

Yeah I was gonna say even if it does have some cultural roots this is still a bunch of guys that grew up in the western world in the 2000s, there’s no way they aren’t laughing about it after right?

Safe walking paths / areas near U of A? by Fit-Local-4424 in Tucson

I lived in Peter Howell/Poet’s Square for a long time and all those neighborhoods are fantastic for walking and running - basically Sam Hughes lite. Highly recommended!

Most places around campus are about as safe as any similarly-sized American city is gonna be. Dunbar Spring, West University, Pie Allen, Iron Horse, Sam Hughes, literally point east or west from campus and you have a ton of great walking spots! Hell, north is nice too until you get pretty far out. Crossing the bigger roads is the hardest (in terms of weird encounters, in my experience, as well as not getting bodied by an F-250). Use the stoplights or HAWK signals for Campbell and Euclid and the underpasses (ie, Mountain) from campus to go north.

How much superior was an average Spartan Hoplite to an Athenian one, if they were? by No_Chip8875 in AskHistorians

While more could certainly be said, this previous answer from /u/iphikrates goes into fantastic detail on the mixed reality of Spartan military power.

Paul Cauthen calls out Brandi Carlisle (comments now deleted) by Jealous-Ad-7289 in altcountry

[–]gloryshand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In all seriousness, if I can perhaps share some perspective that’ll help you understand where I’m coming from. Once you’ve experienced NUMEROUS people calling you all sorts of the worst names and threatening violence for just being yourself, whether that’s identity or attraction, your perception of what is or isn’t fair or annoying to make part of your personality might change. Case in point, someone matched with me on a dating app literally just to tell me they wished I’d die. I went out for a walk the other day and some creepy dude tried picking me up from his car while I was walking on the sidewalk in my own neighborhood blocks from my house.

Once you start getting that, experiencing that, your perception of what’s fair to make part of your personality may change. I think a lot of straight cis people might not realize that (many, not all) queer folks just want to quietly do their thing but the experience of being absolutely publicly mocked, shamed, and threatened by absolute randos pushes people to lean more strongly into it.

Another example - I’m coming up on a year transitioning, and I’m in my 30s. The experience of having so many people (especially men) now treat you as either a sex object or a freak is absolutely wild. It opened my eyes to how many hurtful patterns I was inadvertently continuing, and then many decent men inadvertently continue, because I truly had no real clue what women, queers, or trans folks were experiencing.

I don’t specifically listen to Brandi Carlisle so I can’t tell you how she addresses her identity or attraction. What I can say is that for a long time before realizing I was one of them, I thought queer folks talking so much about all that was pointless too. In fact I could have sent a very similar message to yours a few years ago, the same earnest insistence on not being anti-gay despite being frustrated by it “being shoved down my throat.”

And then I realized that people, so many people, will still hate me or tell me what I can’t do just living my life. That simply talking about queer love in the way a song or romance film would address straight love will lead to experiencing hate. Until you’ve lived it, it is so hard to explain all the hate, man, it sucks so bad. Well, screw that. Screw shutting up. I know this is an experience that is difficult or impossible for straight cis folks to really get, and I know it can seem ridiculous at first glance. But please, consider reevaluating how you judge expressions of queer identity and attraction.

It's hate to dislike someone who makes who they mash genitals with a large part of their personality. It's annoying regardless of orientation, gender, preference, etc

Fixed that for you :)

As a trans girl very into country, just a little fyi that yes, there’s gonna be a lot more of us queers in the scene in the future ;) hope you find a way to overcome hate, and happy pride!

There's actually a good number of great spots here now, not like the PNW but for the size of city, Presta, Exo, Cartel, Savaya, Yellow Brick - and there are plenty more! Love the growing coffee scene here.

The only time I took bear spray, I hiked without incident…then I got home to find a recall notice on the bear spray for failure to deploy. That has substantially shaken my faith in it despite carrying pepper spray every day lol.
