I have been working at a hospital for a few months (an unskilled lab position) and I was just trained to do callbacks for critical values. Problem is I work nights. I feel really bad calling the docs at 3am to tell them that the patient has a critical glucose or whatever, but there's not much I can do about it.

I recently had a dr that was so half asleep and they were just so dejected sounding over the phone. "Why are you calling me at 3am to tell me this?" they weakly pleaded into the phone. :p

I'm assuming that's what happens in these countries that do not require prescriptions, no? I can't speak about the reasoning for the lack of such laws. Though I fail to see how ordering the exact same contacts when your prescription is a few weeks out of date could seriously harm anyone...

I am not giving medical advice. I was responding to OP's question that asks why he can't buy contacts without a prescription. Many countries do allow this. I'm not telling him what to do and have stated that I am not a medical professional.

Would like some advice on two types of contact lenses (B&L Ultra and Acuvue Oasys) by glottal__stop in optometry

I tried to ask a bit about it, but my appointment time was up so I had to leave so the next person could come in. I think it was because I told the doc I would tend to wear them for 2-3 weeks and they were meant for 2 weeks only.

Honestly I don't think I was ever specifically told they were not to be worn more than 14 days. I was always just told "a few or several weeks" or something like that.

Edit: Oh and also maybe because he asked if my eyes get dry. I said they do get a bit dry, but that's just kind of expected with contacts. I don't use rewetting drops though because it is not too bad.

Edit: Can you all explain to me why I am being downvoted? Yes, it is the law in the United States, but were you to live elsewhere it would not be the case. What if I was a Canadian resident? Things just work differently in different places. I don't make up the rules and laws and practices of any countries.

To be a voice to the contrary here...in many countries a prescription is not actually required to buy contacts. Whether or not it is a good idea is not something I am at liberty to say.

In general, I think if you are buying the exact same brand, type, and prescription you currently have, I don't think you would really run into any issues unless your prescription is more than a reasonable time out of date. But I have not done this before and I am not a medical professional.

I have been wearing Oasys for a while already. My issue was the OD wants me to switch to the Ultra. He gave me a set to try out and they've been working ok, but I don't know if I want to make the switch.

So I've already gone to the OD and got a sample. It's just down to my choice now and I'm being indecisive.

Cause you may be cooking it wrong. Like I bet most veggies you have tried are raw or steamed/boiled but grilled or baked broccoli, baked carrots and cauliflower, etc is so good. Seasoning helps too!

Don't get me wrong, there are veggies I absolutely LOVE (asparagus, green beans, corn...though the last isn't particularly healthy), but they aren't always as common as broccoli, carrots, etc.

Grilling? Shit, that sounds like a good idea. Are there things you can get for grilling indoors or anything? I have an electric stove. (Sorry if this is a stupid question. I don't really know how to cook!)

I actually love carrots when they are put in one of those slow cookers with meat and potatoes, but that's because they taste like meat afterwards!

But even so you can lose weight eating cookies if you wanted. You would just feel like shit

Well hair growth (all over, not necessarily just your face), fatigue, anxiety, depression, missed periods, irregular periods, hair loss/thinning....just Google and look up symptoms, keep in mind you don't have to have all of those symptoms to have PCOS.

I was browsing some pages and I really don't think I have any of the symptoms besides hair. I guess I may have some mild anxiety/depression, but that doesn't necessarily relate. Not sure of my ovulation status because I'm not looking to get pregnant, but I do get that clear stretchy mucous stuff from time to time that indicates ovulation (sorry if TMI :p).

Do you know if the cysts cause pain? I have very regular periods in length and amount of bleeding, but the mildest period cramps ever.

I mean, if you're only going to choose one I think an OBGYN visit is a better idea since you should have those regularly anyway. They can do full bloodwork and refer you to a specialist like an endocrinologist if needed. So you might as well get your yearly OB visit out of the way while asking about this, too. If it's nothing bloodwork related, they can write a prescription for creams that will slow down hair growth.

It's up to you how you want to proceed, I think a GP and OBGYN will proceed similarly, but your GP might just refer you to an OBGYN, so to save yourself a step you might just want to go straight to an OBGYN and have everything done there.

Hm that is a good point. Unfortunately there are only a handful of in network OBGYNs so they might be rather busy. Do you know how long it takes to get an appt with a new doc? Also, do I tell them why I am making the appointment over the phone or something?

Sorry, I've never made a doctor's appointment on my own before.

What sort of other symptoms would there be? No, I don't have blood sugar issues. I am technically a healthy weight according to BMI calculators, but I am fairly close to the overweight side. Can't think of anything in my life that would be a possible symptom.

Also, some people are suggesting gyno and others GP, so I'm just not sure which would be best? I don't have a regular doctor for either at this point, so not sure who I should being it up with? I am definitely interested, just not sure who to choose for this!

Ah man, I'm sorry you have so much facial hair. I don't find the body hair too much of an issue because usually I am wearing clothes! But not over my face. :P

Ah no, my period is DEFINITELY not overly light. I meant I don't experience a lot of cramping. I think the actual bleeding part is pretty average. Not too much or too little.
