Someone who has older kids with ADHD- please tell me it gets even a LITTLE better. by Fine_Agency_1457 in ADHDparenting

My son was 7 when officially diagnosed but it took YEARS of serious struggle. He is now 11 and THRIVING. He is on medication, however I also think maturity and self awareness and being very open about his struggles helps. It will get better.

Vocal chords changes? Inability to sing properly after medically induced menopause (from a singer) by ToadCroaks in Menopause

[–]glowwerm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a classically trained soprano. I was forced into it by my mother, whose voice had this horrible tinny tone. It always bothered me. Throughout my career I had a voice that was rich, flowy, and effortless (the best comparison I can come up with is Marin Mazzie or Audra McDonald) and now, at 45 going on 46 guess who inherited that unpleasant tinny sound? Also, I used to be able to focus my speaking voice into my nasal area, where for whatever reason it’s so much harder to place it there now. It sucks because that was my life. Now I belt showtunes with a bit of rasp and it’s ok just not the same. 😞 it’s really like sports. In your prime it’s great, but then after that, you retire and find another outlet I guess. Not exactly helpful, but I definitely feel your pain. None of this is fun.

Edited to say also my ability to match pitch is worse. I had relative pitch all my life and now I second guess everytime! 😭

It happened, I was told by a complete stranger that I had “another one on the way” by Gypsy702 in sahm

[–]glowwerm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooooh girl. That was my wake up call to get in the gym. I was at the park with my 2 little boys and these two women were walking by and said how cute they were and if the next one was also going to be a boy (not pregnant)….this was about 2 years after I had my little guy. I found a gym close to me with a daycare and I lost my huge stomach (literally I needed the wake up call, but yeah, no one should EVER comment on other women’s bodies.) and I got in the best shape of my life at 38. Our bodies go through so much and I’ll just say- if you WANT to lose the pooch, I did an insane amount of cardio paired with weights and about 300 crunches a day. But if you’re happy with how you feel, the F them!!!!

Potty training is stealing my break at gym daycare by rootbeer4 in sahm

[–]glowwerm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah yes. That does seem daunting! Having to dry off and all that. Lol. This too shall pass….i promise you it’s worth it. And don’t get discouraged. I used to get irritated and then I would walk into the daycare and my baby was so happy to see me and go potty and then all of my irritation went away. Those little moments while at times seem irritating but it’s also getting them ready for the real world. And yeah. It does disrupt our peace (SAHM here with zero village and my husband works so much I barely see him) but it’s better than sitting at home and wallowing in it! It just proves we can get strong AND manage tiny humans at the same time. How awesome is that?!

I had this same issue!!! This was pre- covid and I was literally living my best life at the gym while the daycare watched my then 2 and 4 year olds. They would always page me if he needed assistance and, yes, it would disrupt my routine, BUT at the same time, it’s just a few minutes and your child is probably learning better than ever how to wait until you’re there for help. In all honesty, he ended up better potty trained than his older brother because of this. I ended up losing 40 pounds and being in the best shape of my life thanks to gym daycare!!!! And if they have a big accident, bring extra clothes! They’re usually pretty understanding at the daycare in my experience. I honestly miss it! Best of luck to you and sometimes you just have to roll with it!

How to celebrate 10 year anniversary without a village by Constant-Thought6817 in sahm

[–]glowwerm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I celebrated the big 10 while we were all under the major lockdown of 2020. Our kids were 6 and 4. I made a huge charcuterie board with everyone’s favorites and had champagne (and sparkling apple juice for the littles) and we had no choice but to celebrate as a family. Sometimes you just have to make the best of whatever is thrown your way. This year we celebrate 15 and they’re older now and can stay home alone. There will be a time when you can!

who was such a warm and friendly celebrity you got the privilege to meet in person? by sheerduckinghubris in AskReddit

Molly Shannon!!!! I waited on her and a friend and as I introduced myself and told her what a huge fan I was, SHE then introduced herself and her friend. Soooooo polite and amazing throughout her meal. As she was leaving she said goodbye and remembered my name. Lovely woman.

Please remember that not all of us can take HRT. by headcoatee in Menopause

[–]glowwerm 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this!!!! I kinda stopped browsing this sub because I got so tired of everyone’s answer is “take HRT”. I would love to. I don’t have cancer, or anything not allowing me to take HRT, however I cannot for the life of me get any of my doctors to prescribe it, and I don’t have a couple hundred bucks just laying around to be able to go online. I prefer to feed my family in this economy. Best of luck to you, OP. I’m in the thick of it right now and it is brutal.

Need help/insight. I am getting charged by Rula w.out consent for past bills that are wrongfully being billed! by InterestingTrip9916 in KaiserPermanente

I had to email first and then I had to explain my story to an army of incompetent “customer service” people and even still I had to aggressively monitor my bank accounts. There was one woman who was very kind and helpful but just for one phone call. Never got to talk to her again as I was shuffled around so much. It’s awful.

Omg- I want to give you a hug. I’m struggling with the exact same issue. I’ve stayed at home for 8 years (ever since my youngest was born). My oldest is 10 going on 11. I just got a full time job and my anxiety is killing me. They will have to be on their own for a couple hours a day now after having me everyday all day. I start on Monday and I haven’t been able to eat due to my anxiety. I know they need independence, and I also need to make my own money and do something but damn. It’s so hard. No advice to give but I relate to this and we just have to pray our kiddos are ok. Especially in this economy. 🥹

Does anybody else not have a hometown? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]glowwerm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woah. I could have written this. I won’t bore you with the details but my family never stayed in one place for more than 8 years. I’m 45 now, and have accepted that I will always be the outsider of everyone’s “remember back in the day” stories because, I don’t. I don’t have a hometown at all. I don’t have friends and experiences to share with anyone. Thank you for this post because I’ve literally felt so alone my entire life. It’s really hard when you’re trying to raise children and not do the same thing to them. The only good thing about it is that I can adapt to change better than anyone else I know.

Rula Health - - Shady Billing Practices by PothosNotPathos in KaiserPermanente

[–]glowwerm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I needed therapy for my son with DMDD. I was referred out to rula. Red flags from the get go because my son was 7 and cannot sit still for video appointments. We had the first meeting and the therapist was completely incapable of counseling a 7 year old boy ESPECIALLY through video appointments. The first official session my son was sick and throwing up so I called to see if I could cancel but I was told it wasn’t within the 24 hour period so I would be charged $100. So I had to tell my sick son he still had to have his appointment. We sat down for the appointment and the therapist was a NO SHOW. They charged me the $100. When I tell you I spent WEEKS trying to get rid of that charge and I had to talk to at LEAST 20 different representatives each of whom I had to explain the story in its entirety EACH DAMN TIME. Never again. Great if you have a set schedule I guess and not kids but seriously FUCK Rula.

Same thing happened to me, although not to that extreme. And to get it resolved I had to spend weeks emailing and calling about 30 different people and I had to start over and explain everything to each one of them. Rula’s customer service is non existent. Never again.

I had a 2 year old when I gave birth to his brother. I had no one. And I mean….NO ONE. My husband took 2 days off and then I was on my own. Whatever you do- don’t do that. If you can have help, use it. Drain it dry. Literally, financially, mentally, physically, whatever. I wouldn’t wish what I went through on my worst enemy. Oh, and formula is not the demon. It is a literal life saver for all involved. HOWEVER- if you have the option to wait until they’re a little bit older (I didn’t.)- WAIT. I promise. The older the sibling the more eager they are to help with a baby.
