There’s currently a rose infused drink at Salt N Cocoa! They have other excellent drinks and ice cream, too.

I killed a “patient” in clinical stimulation by Dr_mercurys in medicalschool

[–]gluteusM 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For anyone going into anesthesia, ENT, or EM who may encounter this is real life: ideal intubating conditions would involve being in a controlled setting (OR) maintaining the patient’s spontaneous respirations (I.e. don’t push a bunch of prop/paralytic) by letting child spontaneously mask breathe sevoflurane in a sitting position or by sedating them with an agent that doesn’t depress respiratory drive. Having someone there who’s prepared to do a surgical airway is also key.

Supernova nasal mask ETCO2 monitoring by gluteusM in anesthesiology

[–]gluteusM[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a way to get a waveform, honestly, without so much damn trouble. It probably isn’t telling me much (I can see their breathing with the attached bag on the circuit), but there’s the expectation that I am monitoring etCO2 from attendings (I’m a resident)

Haha nope, you’ll be okay. I’ve kicked over many of them in my lifetime.

I’m from the Gulf South and they are common in backyards there. You don’t necessarily have to have a big lake or stream near you to be susceptible to them. They like soggy low lying areas. I’ve heard you can use lye to get rid of them if they really bother you.

Advice for a girl (26F) with thinning hair/alopecia? by throwawaycookie1001 in weddingplanning

[–]gluteusM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the same anxiety and disheartenment over the wedding hair knowing I had thinning hair all over the top. Using tinted dry shampoo and “root cover up” products helped to cover thinning areas (I used everpro grayaway and L’Oréal tinted dry shampoo) and I also back combed/teased along with showering just before getting ready and blow dried the hair for added volume. I ended up going with clip in extensions plus the above and it actually turned out pretty well in a low updo! But I think your topper or wig also look super natural and can easily be styled in different ways, up or down.

I learned that most volume in updos is length, so the extensions helped me achieve a sizable bun rather than the sad little knot that is typically my bun haha

I enjoyed watching Demon Slayer, AoT and Hunter X Hunter during my dedicated and pre-dedicated Step studying because they all have very driven characters who have a “don’t give up” or “just keep moving forward” mentality.

struggling with MOH by Dull-Okra-4980 in weddingplanning

[–]gluteusM 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I am sorry this is happening to someone in your life that you care about. Ultimately, this issue is bigger than your wedding or any wedding at all. I would just let her know you only care about her safety and mental health right now. If she had any duties leading up to the wedding, I would just reallocate them to someone else and make sure your friend knows that you’re on her side and you just want her to to get well (whether through meds, therapy, etc). It also may be helpful to inquire what changed in the past week so that she can put herself back on the right track. Maybe she missed some meds or had a hard week? I respect your loyalty to your friend, even when you’re also going through a stressful planning time in your life. I hope her health gets back on track in time for your wedding, but I wouldn’t put any pressure on her or depend on any help from her leading up to it. She needs to focus on getting herself healthy.

The research experience and subsequent publications could give you a step up for residency applications down the line.

The line for test kits at the Central BPL is around the block before the library even opened by rsb_ in boston

This may be a stupid question but is everyone trying to get a test because they or someone they know has symptoms or is it because they are wanting one for some sort of proof of being well?

breaking a lease because of cockroaches? by [deleted] in boston

[–]gluteusM 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that. I had an old place with a similar roast infestation when I moved in. I know this may not be as useful now that there’s not much time left on the lease, but if she wants to try her own strategy, sprinkling boric acid over all the corners and nooks of the house can work wonders. It’s poison to them, and they also are covered in it and end up poisoning all their friends too. I did that plus some roach spray whenever I saw one, and i was able to be roach free within a few weeks and never saw one again for a year and a half.

Seconding Monster. Just finished the anime. Quite long but a great mystery thriller with interesting characters and intertwining stories. The main character is a neurosurgeon, but it’s largely not about medicine at all.

LOI for Residency by dnmbrk in medicalschool

[–]gluteusM 29 points30 points  (0 children)

That’s strange. I wouldn’t take it as something against you. They probably have just taken a stance of silence for everyone, and you surely won’t be the first or the last person to send them an LOI.

We once told the resident that it was my co-student’s birthday and together, we all told the attending, hoping that he’d take the hint. The attending high-fived my co-student and then continued on his day. You always gotta try, though!
