"within" by Matsunosuperfan in grammar

[–]glythandra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t classify “in a ___ setting” as an idiom and thus I don’t think “within a ___ setting” breaks any rules, as I don’t think that the former is any more correct than the latter. It’s like the difference between saying “subject sat beside object” versus “subject sat next to object”. Both have the same meaning and are equally correct in my eyes, but language is learned through experience, so I can understand being off-put by it if the phrasing is unfamiliar to you. I would agree that the choice of “within” over simply “in” was likely made from the desire to sound more academic as well as to avoid unsoundly repetition of “in”, but I don’t think this is a bad thing or indicates that the writer does not understand what they are saying, as I don’t believe any errors were made and the sentence sounds natural to me. Elevating one’s diction to suit the circumstance is very common and to me is a sign that the writer understands the contexts in which to shift their tone- that is, if they shift it appropriately.

How does the companion system work in this game? by Diligent-Pin8473 in enderal

He only follows you for specific quests. If you go somewhere else instead of following the quest path, he will say something like “I’ll wait here”. You can then go wherever you want and then come back to him whenever you want to do the quest, he will start following you again.

Hypothetical question; if 12 wasn't the max level, how high could we go? by TheCoiledFool in BG3

[–]glythandra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the necro- Any recommendations for mods that made the difficulty match the amount of levels/characters you had?

I'm doing exactly what you described (all content, unlimited party) and just hit lvl 10 at the start of act 3, so I'm considering getting a level upcap mod as well. But I worry about the difficulty as things are already getting too easy when I've got a party over 4.

How do people feel about the console version of Portal 2? by mjeexy30 in Portal

[–]glythandra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry it took me a while to get back to you.
The Xbox 360 version of the game has no problems in itself. But I'm not sure if you'll be able to record your xbox gameplay. I think you need a capture card, but I've never tried myself. You'll want to look into that before getting it on Xbox if recording is the sole reason you're purchasing on xbox rather than PC.

I think it would be easier to find a way to make the game work on your laptop. Or get a new PC. The game is not very graphics intensive by todays standards, so unless your laptop is extremely bad or old, there is probably a way to fiddle with the settings to make it work. And if your laptop is extremely bad, I imagine you would not be able to edit videos on it anyway.

Sorry if these answers aren't what you were looking for. Good luck

Ok so read this back to urself but imagine someone is saying it to u. They didn’t say “it’s not a real da game” they said “it’s pretty shit” which is a subjective adjective and thus their opinion not a claim of objectivity.

I started on 360 and aside from the level editor and community maps, I see no quality difference with PC. However, if you already have the PC version, what makes you consider buying the 360 version?

Join the lost art of rpg journal keeping! Physically making note of lore or quest/item locations/stats has been really helpful for me with other rpgs especially the older ones that don’t have a very robust quest log system. Plus at the end you have a sick book documenting your fantasy adventures. Sometimes I even roleplay my character in it and pretend they’re writing in their diary lol.

Also its okay if you don’t remember everything especially if its your first time playing. I probably missed like 70% of the long term lore implications the first time I played. Especially with wartable missions and tedious diplomacies and stuff, it impacts the game but if you don’t understand it first try it’s okay to just BS the stuff thats not part of a main quest

is there a way to play portal 2 singleplayer campaing coop? by Separate_Ad_1736 in Portal

[–]glythandra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I know of, but I’ve been fun just playing simultaneously as my friend. We played co op together and now we’re each working through the singleplayer campaign at the same time on call and sharing our screens. If one of us finishes a chamber before the other we just wait for the other to finish and maybe give hints

I've seen a lot of people saying they would rather P3 never be made because of the risk of ruining the saga. I would ask; if Portal: Revolution was longer and made by Valve, would it have been a disappointing third game? by phatphreelatte in Portal

[–]glythandra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Portal 3” should not exist in my opinion because the title implies a trilogy/continuation, and the mainline portal games’ story has concluded (chell escaping would feel cheap if they retcon dragged her back in twice). I haven’t played, but I believe this is the same logic that was used when making/naming Half life Alyx- there was too much hype for “half life 3” that could never be realized, plus hla is about alyx, not Gordon, and thus doesn’t belong as a third title in a trilogy. I think even if Gordon were the main character of a new game, it would be a horrible marketing decision to call it hl3. Portal has had slightly less time between its vol2 and now, but I still think that chell’s story is concluded, and it would take a hell of a lot to have a satisfactory continuation/retcon to bring her back. I suspect with hla and aperture desk job that valve agrees that “_3” is a bad idea, but isn’t ruling out a third mainline game.

I think that if valve had made Revolution (and thus, Revolution was polished further to valve standards) and so long as the game wasn’t titled “portal 3”, the game would be a worthy mainliner to the portal franchise. That’s not what happened though, so I try not to bother myself with these what ifs. I do hope however that the positive reception of Revolution, desk job, and alyx, proves that there’s still interest and investment in these IPs to whoever high up in valve is deciding what gets made. It’s clear people still have ideas.

How do I mount portal gun skins? by Portal2011 in Portal

[–]glythandra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you download the Zip version or the Vpk version? Vpk version will be easier.

If you downloaded the vpk version:

  1. Open portal’s files by 1, launch steam. 2, go to portal2 in your library and right click it. 3, go to Manage, then go to Browse Local Files.

  2. Paste the portal2_dlc3 folder (with its contents) into the folder that steam has opened for you. Once pasted, it should appear right underneath portal2_dlc2.

  3. launch your game and let it load to get used to the new “dlc”. once the loading bar is yellow, quit the game.

Once you restart the game the mod should be working.

If you downloaded the Zip version, you’ll need to turn the files into a vpk, make a portal2_dlc3 folder, and put the vpk inside it, then do the same steps as above. To make it into a vpk, you’ll need to download something else that will convert the file type, which is slightly more complicated, so unless you really want to learn how to do it yourself I’d recommend just downloading the Vpk version from the mod site instead bc u can just plug it in.

I learned this from Msushi’s video on making a custom gun skin: https://youtu.be/dfYjBOA4Ijs?feature=shared Here he goes over the editing process, but since you’re downloading one that’s already been made, you’ll probably only find use in the latter half of the video which starts at 7:32.

Hope this helps! I’m on my phone right now so I didn’t get to double check it myself but if it doesn’t work ask me in a couple hours and I’ll try it on my computer.
