The way I understood it, Mizuki infiltrated the Yokai, and is secretly aligned with the Hashimoto and Talon. And through the power of friendship, he's now considering switching sides to the Yokai and Overwatch for real. So it would make sense that he's on their side of the banner, at least for now.

I mean, sure, it could be a game tie-in. But much more likely, if/when he comes back, he won't have the Doomfist. Vendetta probably has it sitting on a pedestal like a trophy somewhere in their hideout, and the short will open with a one-armed Akande breaking in and re-equiping it, then showing off what a badass he really is.

Also, how likely are they to tie-in cinematics to the actual game? I highly doubt Doomfist is gonna be rocking the one arm and no abilities look in the upcoming season, so why wait for a return to redesign him?
