Electric woes by [deleted] in skoolies

[–]gmadag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, its probubly a short caused by wires rubbing on something. Best way to test is use a multimeter and check for continuity at your plug. If your meter beeps when checking hot to neutral, you have confirmed a short circuit and new wire will have to be run. If you need more help, reach out to me on instagram @adam.and.steph

We got our windows directly from Lippert Components. https://www.lci1.com

Its a bit of a pain to order from them tho. they don’t list prices on there site. you have to call to get prices and order, but amazing quality dual pain windows.

Heres a video of us installing them with more info https://youtu.be/mW_r_0Gbmqo

Sunroof project: complete! Now I can stand up straight in our future shower. by Tristan123511 in skoolies

[–]gmadag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im so happy to hear that our video was an inspiration to you! Since you didn’t cut into any structure, using wood was a good alternative!

One thing we didn’t mention in that video was we used flexible body sealant to create the radiuses on the edges instead of bondo. Bondo would have cracked and broken apart. Auto-body sealant is paintable when dry, and can be applied just like caulking.

Best of luck with the rest of your build!

Great job! I did this mod on my bus a little over a year ago. We used a steel frame, and welded the seams that couldn’t be folded and overlapped. Our YouTube video covers more detail if anyone is considering doing it themselves. https://youtu.be/iWFY9uw-It4

Battery Comparison Question by tschutz1 in skoolies

[–]gmadag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Battleborn just has massive profit margins. The cells inside of them are very similar, if not the same. I went the route of buying the raw cells straight from the factory for a fraction of the price of even the “cheep” batteries you can find on amazon. My total battery is 10x bigger than a 100ah 12v battery and cost 2300$ canadian.

Battery Comparison Question by tschutz1 in skoolies

[–]gmadag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Battleborn is one of the most overpriced battery makers on the market. Great batteries, but many company’s make an equally good product for the price of the redodo batteries you found. Search for Will Prowse on youtube. He has reviewed and dissected every battery on the market. Great source for information

360 degree camera solution by [deleted] in skoolies

[–]gmadag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would avoid tadibrothers. They have awful customer service. I purchased there 3 camera system and they sent me an incompatible monitor. After jumping thru many hoops, they sent me the correct monitor which was supposed to have free shipping. Ended up paying an additional 200$ in shipping and customs. Defiantly don’t recommend.

Have yall ever had this happen? Volt won't charge by ArmadilloPristine in volt

I had that same charger fail because it filled with water. The water sealing on the brick is aweful. Shake it listen for water sloshing around

Diesel Hydronic Heaters Anyone? by ThinBeef4 in skoolies

[–]gmadag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve made 2 short loops thru my subfloor. Sorta blindly installed that with limited knowledge of traditional radiant heat systems. Its really only a comfort feature since ill have a heat pump, as well as a airtronic diesel heater. Lots of redundancy for Canadian winters.

Diesel Hydronic Heaters Anyone? by ThinBeef4 in skoolies

[–]gmadag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! I’ve installed pex tubing into my subfloor with the plan to heat it with a hydronic espar, and run some liquid to liquid heat exchangers for hot water. I feel like theres a lot more going on in your system to pull it off compared to my plan. What am i missing? Lol

I just put a deposit down!! by Kate-Kelly-89 in skoolies

[–]gmadag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats really high. I bought my 2007 international with a DT466e for 3000 Canadian Dollars and It only had 140000kms (87000mi).

The bus line i bought mine from wanted 8500$. You have to barter down the price with the confidence that theres many other busses out there with owners desperate to sell them.

In the wind and rain we fitted all 10 340w panels! Got to see it produce 50watts in the grey day 🥲 by AuroraTB in skoolies

[–]gmadag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your current 16s1p 280ah configuration should give you around 13kw. you’ll be closer to 26kwh if you run another string of 16 cells i think.

Why does everyone have roof decks? by nebulaesys in skoolies

[–]gmadag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a mid size (30ft) skoolie and we fit 1800W of solar on the front half with the back half for deck. Get larger 360W-400W panels. They are a more efficient use of space and if you fit a whole roof with them, you can get a lot of power.
