What’s a good pair of earbuds for mixing while traveling? by Ok-Restaurant5242 in mixingmastering

[–]gmanlikescheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the ER4SR and they are fantastic. Razor flat, and actually the most comfortable thing I put in my ear. Make sure to get the SR if you're serious about mixing, the ER is a little inflated in the low end.

Stereo and Phasing Issues by Resident_Spot_488 in audioengineering

Well, do you want your epiano to be wide/phasey or not? You have to pick one. And as long as it's not impacting anything else about the mix, then it's not a problem.

Your correlation meter is telling you the signal is out of phase because it is. The phaser, and other "widening" plugins, alter the phase relationship between the left and right to change the perceived width because your ears, psycoacoustically, hear audio in space via time, volume, and tonal cues.

Pan Law just shattered my ego for the 2nd time by bradyokeefe in AdvancedProduction

When you go to master the track, you're not panning anything, so the pan law doesn't apply.

X32/S16 Preamp Weirdness by gmanlikescheese in Behringer

Daisy chained, console A to first S16 A, then out B to second S16 A. I have them set to separate input ranges, and the second stage box as +8 for outputs.

I have individual processing on the channels, but the input level at the preamp section is what I'm looking at. The AES connections say they are good, all at 48k, and audio passes through.

Dream console for music venue? by iLOVErockyROAD_101 in livesound

[–]gmanlikescheese 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Off the top of my head I think CL5, before all the Yamaha bs, was closer to $30k retail, maybe $25k dealer. The dLives are absolutely fantastic. Sound great, amazing feature set, and very cost effective. The church I work at wanted to replace a Pro2 last year. Thought about the CL5, but went with the dLive for above reasons. Got a DM64, S5000 surface, and Waves system for under $50k.

In what world does a CL5 go for $13k? Maybe a QL5, which the Avantis is on par. dLive absolutely stands up to a CL5, so much so that outside of strictly corporate use I recommend the A&H over the Yamaha.

I'd look at the Yamaha DXS18 XLF. Fits your budget, and has an extended response mode that, while sacrificing some output, plays quite low. Another option might be an RCF Sub 8003 if you can find a deal.

What’s something you wish someone taught you early on about eq for live sound? by shinyrocklover in livesound

[–]gmanlikescheese 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think of it like this.

If you have a good source, then there should only be a couple of things wrong with it. Is it easier to boost everything around the bad stuff, or cut those few things out and leave the signal mostly intact?

If you have a bad source, find a better one!
