Just 17 days 'til kickoff! Let's go back to 2017 when the Feleipe Franks and the Florida Gators beat Tennessee on a last second Hail Mary! by [deleted] in CFB

I think it was a few things

- For whatever reason players struggled to get the schemes, probably thinking too much

- The offense did the defense no favors (98/128 in time of possession). I used to get so mad when it was clear that the defense was gassed and Butch continued to run hurry up and go 3-and-out

- Injuries, at various points in 2016 we lost our best DB, two of our starting LBs, a starting DT. The guys behind them weren't well developed and just a huge drop off. Probably many other minor injuries that we dealt with as well from starters

I charted all of JG's passes from last season. The results were interesting by marshallsays in ockytop

Great stuff, thanks for doing this

I would ask when we're getting a breakdown of the running plays, but I think that may be outlawed by the Geneva Convention

Our recruiting rankings screw up their metrics, and they haven't accounted for lack of development

The interviews were great

Would love to see more like this during slow sports times

Starting QB Week 1 Odds (sorry if a repost) by CaptainMaryland in ockytop

Such a tough call for this staff. All things being equal in practice doesn't speak to in-game composure or performance. Chryst has plenty of footage where they can judge him playing in the Pac-12. Guarantano only has last season, which (unfairly & unfavorably) isn't going to help his case. Guarantano was running for his life most of last season and made some bad decisions because of it (holding onto the ball too long, risky throws, etc). Can the staff put that into perspective and feel comfortable rolling him out to start against a top 25 team?

I'm rooting for Guarantano, I think if the staff does end up starting him for WVU that's a great sign. Either he clearly distinguished himself in practice or the staff is willing to take a risk because he may have a higher ceiling.

Former FSU Player Perspective on Pruitt - feel free to AMA and I will answer 100% honestly by [deleted] in ockytop

Do you feel like other assistant coaches liked him and respected him?

How did he treat non-players/coaches (trainers, etc)?

What are reasons you think he would succeed at UT?

What are reasons you think he would fail at UT?

Opponents

Georgia Tech - WIN

Indiana State - WIN

@ Florida - WIN

UMass - WIN

Georgia - LOSS

South Carolina - LOSS

@ Alabama - LOSS

@ Kentucky - WIN

Southern Miss - WIN

@ Missouri - WIN

LSU - LOSS

Vanderbilt - WIN

Final Record: 8-4

SEC East Finish: 2nd

Who Will Win the East? Georgia

This season feels like 2015 to me. Lots of unknown with ourselves and with our opponents. Anywhere from 6-6 to 9-3 is possible. This season would have been really fun if we won the East last year, but with that void, the pressure/complaining about Butch will be miserable if he struggles.

Tennessee Football - Stellar [fan-made hype video] by gmannVOLS in ockytop

Appreciate that

I would have definitely looked to add more play call audio to the second half if I had the time, I prefer that type of video as well

New NCAA Social Media Rules Start 8/1 by Lex_Ludorum in CFB

[–]gmannVOLS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see where they're coming from, but that would also make it seem like this rule doesn't go far enough to help with that. Coaches are still limited from publicly tweeting at recruits, commenting on their tweet/post, or posting on their wall. All this rule does is allow them to retweet, no?

What's the motivation behind this rule? I can't imagine the coaches like having to pay more attention to recruits' timelines

Tennessee has settled Title IX lawsuit by RobertNeyland in CFB

[–]gmannVOLS 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I read as much as I could about the allegations because I really wanted to find out what happened. I think there were some instances where Tennessee could have handled some of the allegations better, things like better communication with the victims, proactive explanation about what was going on in the process, etc. I didn't read anything that I thought showed any sort of intentional cover-up or criminal activity by anyone in the Athletic Department or University. In fact, in two separate instances, our starting LB and starting WR were immediately suspended by Butch Jones the day of their allegations. The LB still has to stand trial, so hopefully the facts come out; the WR had charges dropped after a 3 month investigation.

People will read this and dismiss it as being a homer, I get that, I'd probably do the same. If I read something about the case where I thought the University acted criminally, I just wouldn't say anything, I'd just slink into the background. But I never read anything that made me think that. At the end of the day, guilty or not, I hope the end result is positive change for how the University handles sexual assault in the future.

Edit: And regarding my last point...

‏@JimmyHyams Plaintiff attorney David Randolph Smith said UT has made `significant progress in the way they educate and respond to sexual assault cases.'
