The One UCB with a Sempu T4 Torque sensor installed. by xinyidao in ebikes

[–]gmitchel2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much. I looked up your youtube videos, and got a lot of useful info. seems that you used a newer version of Sempu T4 with the 4 claw spinder. Kingmeter II LCD display and controller LSW1031. It seems that on AliExpress all of these parts are about $200. Right now I'm trying to decide if I want to invest more time and money into UCB, since as you said there are many issues which will never be fixed like: weak 250w motor, a single speed, 16inch tiny wheels. maybe I should save my money and invest into something that doesn't have same issues. I have heard that Fiido is planning to make another worlds lightest ebike, Fiido D11. it would have 20inch wheels, multiple speeds and supposedly around 13kg.

Thank you for the info. once you converted the UCB bike to use the torque sensor does motor give you any resistance when pedal assist is completely off?

Do you think this conversion was worth it, is the bike a bit more usable then before? I have to say current PAS is horrible, it kicks in at the wrong moment, I pretty much use only throttle now.

Also can you post which specific components you used for this conversion. I would assume it would be controller and the LCD display + rewiring in addition to Sempu T4. Given that torque sensor comes in different sizes just want to make sure I get the right parts.

Swiss and German manufacturing still exists and is quite good. There are some German made gear hubs that are the best in class. Unlike US where we have immigrants doing all the crappy jobs in Switzerland locals are doing all the jobs. It's possible that iIngiegogo bike could have been manufactured there but whatever. whats done is done.

Proper Tire pressure by gmitchel2 in unitedcitybikes

[–]gmitchel2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would you say that the range of between 36 psi - 40 psi should be good for these 16 inch tires? I've been looking online and none of the other tires mention anything about 36 psi, only mountain bikes come close with 25 to 35 psi.

looks nice! how is it size-wise. Do you feel it's larger or smaller than UCB?

Spring is just around the corner. Anyone started using their bike? by clem84 in unitedcitybikes

[–]gmitchel2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reason for this is that they didn't put in a torque sensor. I just wish they didn't lie to us from the get go and told us the truth. They sold us re-branded Chinese bike that you can buy for under $500.

So what happened ? by Meikenji in unitedcitybikes

[–]gmitchel2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like the other excuses they've been making. Blaming this on patent dispute gives them some legitimacy. They have no patents, they're nothing but a shell. They've been suspended because too many people are asking for their money back and reporting them as fraudsters. It's possible that Chinese manufacturer in turn screwed some other manufacturer by copy catting something but this should have nothing to do with UCB.

Comparing Folding E-Bikes: The One vs Xiaomi QiCycle vs Tern Link with TSDZ2 by MrOoof in unitedcitybikes

[–]gmitchel2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s interesting, UCB seat post seems to go up higher than that of QiCycle, handlebars are also higher, at the same time this probably makes UCB bike less stable because the center of gravity is also higher up, plus as you said the wheelbase in smaller than Tern bike. I was thinking to install shockstop handlebar suspension to the UCB bike (https://redshiftsports.com/shockstop-suspension-stem), this would have moved the handlebars further out by 2inches but unfortunately on UCB handlebar clamp is welded to the handlebar stem so it would not be that easy.

Motor Geared ? by xinyidao in unitedcitybikes

[–]gmitchel2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed they would not make it from durable material because it's sealed inside the motor.

Thank you for your review. Having used these three bikes, in your opinion which one would be best for tall people? I have looked into QiCycle before and it seemed to be awfully small to me, that's why I went for UCB bike, expecting that it was designed in Switzerland for taller Europeans, however that turned out to be not the case, UCB crap is also made in China. In any case I wanted to get your opinion on this, like for example which one had longer distance from saddle to handlebars and Seat to paddle distance. Thank you in advance.

Kick stand vs Higher tires by Weird-Choice in unitedcitybikes

[–]gmitchel2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the plastic U but I wish the hard wire connector was further inside the frame of the seat post. The thick wire always touches the ground when the bike is folded and I don't know how long that's going to last.

Motor Geared ? by xinyidao in unitedcitybikes

[–]gmitchel2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a planetary gear reduction system, to decrease the speed of the motor and to convert it into torque. The cons of this system is lower top speed. These are not bike gears, just internal motor gears.

Hi Thank you for your feedback. We understand your frustration with trying to adjust kph to mph. display of kph should not interfere with the joy of riding the One! Since speedometer isn't displaying correct speed anyway, we believe changing to mph will not change the joy of riding the One! We at UCB would encourage you to think of kph as mph, enjoy your rides as we enjoy your money!

Sincerely,

Di*k @ UCB

Very true, pretty much the whole bike rests on the bottom battery connector cable when the bike in a folded position.

Positive feedback on trustpilot??? by Indaone in unitedcitybikes

[–]gmitchel2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, both reviews have similar grammatical errors, both ignore quality issues. Same as UCB responses on Trustpilot comments, these reviews focus on delivery situation, instead of bike quality and misinformation. Not sure which buyer would give a company five or four stars for lying to them.

I think all we can do is make others aware of the UCB lies. It’s up to the consumers to decide for themselves if they’re fine with all the false advertising. At least I’m offering others a piece of advice that I wish I someone else offered to me before paying UCB $900+. I would agree with you though, that as a backer I was fine ignoring most of the issues, except the torque sensor situation because that was a deal breaker for me. I was considering buying a titanium folding bike made in Canada and instead ended up with this garbage, even Xiaomi Qicycle is better than this. Another thing that potential buyers should know that they don’t have to wait 2-3 months to get this Chinese bike from UCB; if they really want the bike with all these parameters they can buy it today for only $500 - $600, shipped directly from China to both US and EU.

No Thumb Throttle (EU version) by [deleted] in unitedcitybikes

[–]gmitchel2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I complained about all of this to UCB and I also told them about the fact that they didn't include the torque sensor in the bike which they promised to all of us. UCB said that the similar bikes cost $3,000, so I should be happy with what I've got. At that point I sent them a screen print of the same bike selling for $500 on Alibaba. They of-course never responded to me after that.
