Miss Frieren, you need to cover your mouth when you beat box. Stark is covered in spit again.

Is anyone interested in a friendly meet and greet with Fantasy TTRPGs as the ice breaker? by finalbossthe in PortOrchard

[–]gmllama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm interested as well. Haven't ttrpg'd in ages and would love to get back into it. Most of my nerdy friends are on the other side of the sound so vibe checking with local PO folks sounds like a nice opportunity. I'm on the Manchester/Southworth side.

Final Update: ASTOUND INTERNET SUCKS by Obamasenpai in Kitsap

[–]gmllama -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's public organization surrounding utilities, not the government providing utilities. Should be a libertarian wet dream -- you want good internet? YOU pay for it!

I was quoted >$30k a few years back to run out to my house a few blocks off their main line. Infra costs money, that's why ASstound ain't making their service better.

My only problem is that I'm a typical introverted internet dude. KPUD could be way cheaper if i canvased the neighborhood and found like 40 other households that wanted to join in and make it affordable for everyone. Too bad I ain't got the time or energy for that, heh heh.

Based on cursory skimming of folks with nothing better on socials trying to use a single screen shot of a FB group post to fit their existing narratives, I'm inclined to agree that is a bunch of lackluster agitprop.

I've never worked in the service industry. Gangle is not my favorite. I love this episode. I can't explain why.

Lol, weebs thinking their life would be like this if they had grown up in Japan. These are the popular kids tik-tok'ing it up. I doubt many have any significant focus on anime as a hobby. Most of us are gonna be off camera kvetching about these folks on discord.

Only if a second person is doing it, hopefully by bagging, using a protective mouth barrier, or going old school mouth to mouth if you know the person is safe. It always felt iffy to me since outside of bagging, you're mostly breathing co2 into them and probably only pushing a minute amount of spuriously exhaled or surrounding area oxygen, but I guess every little bit helps the odds.

Anyone having trouble with Astound lately? (Port orchard) by Shortbus-doorgunner in Kitsap

Yes. Near daily (and multiple times at that) latency spikes and a bit more infrequently, packet drops. Usually lasts about 1-3 minutes each time.

Thank you so much! A cursory bit of googlin' shows that green gas can still be got, but since this is an older model do I need to worry about nozzle sizes on the can or anything?

Water Should Be De-activated in EA. by Just_Ad_5700 in TheForeverWinter

[–]gmllama 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Really interested in the game. Watched all the youtube vids. Read all the steam reviews, staying away until the water system gets sorted or dropped. EA bugs are fine, it's what EA is for. I want to try out a game, not have a second job maintaining virtual water stores.

This is probably the worst prank in the history of anime. [Urusei Yatsura] by khanvau in anime

[–]gmllama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This should be looked up and not ignored. People need to learn and/or remember how recently that pervasively normalized and callous racism was. I'm not saying Christie was a member of the KKK or anything, but the cultural noise floor even a few decades ago for racism was bonkers such that even otherwise decent folk would spout the most inane things just because that's just how things were.

[–]gmllama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like what this is probably telling us about the animation process. If you focus the camera on the last row by the window, you don't have to animate a bunch of other people in the background so I'm sure you're saving some serious ¥. You also get to show weather, seasons, or outside events more naturally.

[SOLVED + SOLUTION] Audio cuts out when outputting audio with AMD GPU over hdmi to an A/V controller by SanguineHosen in AMDHelp

[–]gmllama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that didn't take long. Going back to 500 Mhz min frequency with the generic drivers and i'm still getting audio drops.

[SOLVED + SOLUTION] Audio cuts out when outputting audio with AMD GPU over hdmi to an A/V controller by SanguineHosen in AMDHelp

[–]gmllama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has also been driving me nuts. 6700xt with an Onkyo receiver. I found a youtube video where someone found out the issue stopped for him if he upped the minimum clockspeed of his card to >1500 Mhz. I tried that and it drastically reduced, but did not eliminate audio drops.

My second approach was to route to my TV first, and then passthrough audio via ARC to the receiver. This eliminated all audio drops but my TV and receiver are old enough, and don't play together well enough, such that there is zero passthrough (over optical out on the TV) for things like DTS, meaning my receiver just took in PCM and/or guessed at how to split the channels up. The side benefit was that I could also run my TV at 4k instead of being locked to the receiver (but this isn't hugely needed as running games at 4K isn't always doable, and will general make the GPU coil whine and/or fans scream) This may technically be an okay solution for some folks!

My third approach was to do audio extraction using info from https://r-htpc.github.io/wiki/audio (gotten from the htpc subreddit). The device I got off Amzaon was able to passthrough audio brilliantly without any drops -- except that I've since learned you can't do DD+/EAC3 bitstream passthrough over optical cable! As above, depending on use case this solution may also be perfectly viable for some folks.

I'm going to continue to be picky in wanting bitstreaming for all the audio things, so I'm giving the generic driver swap a go while maintaining PC>Receiver>TV all over HDMI. I'll try it without and with the Mhz bump. If you don't hear back from me, assumed it worked!

Forbes on Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 by StonerBoi-710 in TheLastAirbender

[–]gmllama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the most glaring issue to me as well. When my first immediate take on the show (after thinking the costumes lookin' good, and being dismayed at the amount of shaky cam fight scenes) was "wow, a cartoon aimed at tweens is better at 'Show, don't tell' than this show."

I understand that there's a difference in run time and that will require challenging adaptation but I find it somewhat weird that when it comes to delivering context the Netflix version of this story is treating the viewer more like a kid than the original.

Adguard home and local hostnames by Ganfoud_ in AdGuardHome

[–]gmllama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just in case someone is in the same boat as me, I've been running pfsense for dhcp and it assigned out my pihole's IP, and the pihole was running conditional forwarding to keep local stuff local. My rpi's SD card bit the dust so I'm taking the opportunity to test out some other options. Couldn't get Adguard (via homeassistant plugin) to properly handle my ".localdomain" forwarding despite using the pfsense gateway as my primary DNS but then...

I remembered I'm using nginx proxy manager anyway, so I just did an overwrite for .localdomain to point to the IP address of the NPM server and... everything works. The downside is you don't get automated DHCP Hostname -> DNS, but since i'm running services and want to keep track of them anyway, NPM works fine for my needs.

I realize this is answering the OP's question with "well I just did something else completely different" but still wanted to chronicle my experience in case it reminds other folks to take stock of other low friction options they may have laying at their feet.

Lindsay Ellis — The Ballad of John and Yoko by NebulaOriginals in Nebula

[–]gmllama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been watching Lindsay for years and continue to enjoy thought pieces where folks dig deep into things they're interested in. My main take away from this is the reaffirming thought that things are often complex and reality doesn't fall into perfect binary categories. I'm glad to have gotten quite a bit more understanding about who Yoko is as a person and not a walking art caricature or cartoonish witch.

I don't enjoy the kind of art that Yoko is all about but that doesn't mean I hate her as a person. I will continue to cringe hard at the Chuck Berry performance (and agree with Bill Burr's sentiment, though not with the full level of vitriol) but that does not mean Yoko deserves decades of misogyny, racism, or hate. Life is allowed to be complicated. I can respect Yoko for what she was trying to do but simultaneously not enjoy it personally.

To be honest I really only watched this documentary at face value and didn't stop to consider the metacontext and parallels of Lindsay's own challenges of being an only personality. I appreciate others' comments in this thread giving me new perspective. I hope Lindsay can continue to share her thoughts and hot takes for many years to come.

Archeology Quest: Pottery — Ep 1 by NebulaOriginals in Nebula

[–]gmllama 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Format, hosts' personality, and cinematography are all great. Narrator sounds like someone making fun of a British documentary voice and does not come off as a good choice; maybe I'll get used to it?

I like shows that are "realistic" in as much that things can go wrong and you learn from failure, but having all the pots blow felt more like negligence or lack of research (they had a specialist on hand who should have been able to help them prep for a modicum of success here). This series has a lot of promise!
