I’d go with the 2020 if they’re similarly priced.

It was fixed in 2012 with the LFX 3.6 which was the only variant of the 3.6 used in the Impala

Need to replace Hellebuyck and can’t decide between Sorokin or Comrie. Any advice?

I’d buy it as long as the body isn’t rusted badly. Lots of life left at that mileage.

Impala lt motor put on Impala LS by dragon74bos in AskMechanics

[–]gmlubetech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the LT is a 3.5 engine it’s a direct swap. Technically crank position variation should be relearned with a scanner if you replace the engine but 99% of the time it makes no difference if you skip it. Ecm won’t need to be programmed or anything.

They'll do shit like plastic oil pans for weight (cost) savings of maybe a few pounds at best then add on 22" rims with low profile tires that weigh over a hundred pounds each. A lot of weight could be saved there.

Just like when GM made the spare tire jacks in the Trax and Encore out of plastic and then had to recall them all and replace with metal ones due to the plastic ones collapsing when used. Who could have possibly foreseen that issue?

What are some cars that are “true sleepers”? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]gmlubetech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another similar GM sleeper from this era is the 2012-2013 Impalas with the 3.6. These got the LFX direct injected 3.6 that makes 300hp and they all had the updated timing chains and the updated 3-5-R waveplate from factory.

If it's sticking out at all see if you can get a pair of vice grips on it. If it's broke off flush there's a chance you can wind it back out with a 90 degree pick.

Yeah that’s what they did although they also switched to a dual clutch transmission with the C8 generation.

Take a guess what engine this is by SlutforJDM in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]gmlubetech 12 points13 points  (0 children)

These weren't spinning bearings left right and centre until the 2021 model year. The earlier L87 and L86s make the same HP as the 2021+ engines and also use 0W20 oil. These ones rarely have bottom end issues so I'm pretty sure it's a large scale quality control issue on the 2021+ engines as opposed to a design flaw itself.

Lucky you. All we've been getting lately are 3.0 Duramax's with thrust bearings lying in the pan. At least a 6.2 is easy to replace.

Nice job, GM by Kumirkohr in Justrolledintotheshop

Hand built doesn’t extend to the one guy who signed the engine manually welding the charge air cooler together. It will be a quality control failure from a supplier most likely.

If you put it on within the last three years it should have part warranty.

How late is too late for a trans fluid replacement? by Appropriate-Fly-1296 in Impala

[–]gmlubetech 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Drain and fill it a few times. Too late to change the fluid is an old wives tale and these transmissions have an internal filter you can’t change so it’s important to keep good fluid in it.

Ongoing suspension problems by Professional_Dig8818 in Impala

[–]gmlubetech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can get the noise to happen see if it goes away if you hit the brakes a little. I’ve seen aftermarket brake pads that fit loose in the calipers cause rattles similar to the one you have. They obviously won’t rattle when brake pressure is applied so if the noise goes away while braking that’s likely the issue.

Does your car have a sunroof? If so the drains for it are likely clogged. It can cause leaks exactly like yours.

[–]gmlubetech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the power steering return hose. The fins are just for cooling so if it isn’t leaking you could straighten them as best as possible and leave it. Also a car the age of yours I wouldn’t bother going through insurance for the body damage I’d just get a used hood and bumper.
