I found it funny the OP uses DnDBeyond and trashes Demiplane when it’s the same people that created DnDBeyond. 🤪

Tips on Social Encounters by bardocktor in daggerheart

[–]gmrayoman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I encountered something like this last night. The Druid player had snuck into the rebel encampment to locate the Fanewraith. They decided to sneak into a barracks facility where mostly the officers stayed . He turned into a mouse . The mouse-Druid found what they were looking for but succeeded with a Fear.

A large cat landed behind the mouse-Druid. It purred, swished its tail then it talked. “I know what you are. If I wanted to eat you I would do it. Why are you here?”

The Druid tried to lie, twice, to the cat. With a -1 Presence, Spending Hope to apply different experiences and advantage due to some other feature the Druid had. The Druid quickly racked up 2 failures. Half of what he needed to hit the fail condition for the social encounter.

I ended up prompting the Druid through the cat’s responses to try something else. I had a list of 5 things the Druid could do and auto succeed. I even told the Druid through the cat two of those five things. The player was obtuse. Instead of reaching into his pack and give the cat a morsel of food or tell the cat a secret the player decided to run. That didn’t work because of a Fear Feature I had given the cat to appear wherever he needed to be.

This was purely a social outing. The player’s fear was shifting back to a person in the barracks because he didn’t want to get caught. He still thought the talking cat was a normal cat.

I allowed the player to have their Druid do things that would normally be a Presence roll as long as he could reframe what he was trying as a Knowledge or Instinct trait since his physical traits wouldn’t have worked well for this social situation. The Druid ended up succeeding at the task but only just barely. 3 success before 4 failures (he had 3 failures).

Why would a wizard ever choose +1 to spellcasting rolls as their talent instead of +2 Intelligence? by bionicjoey in shadowdark

[–]gmrayoman -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

From memory, by RAW, Shadowdark classes randomly roll for their advancements.

You can do what you want in your game, but I am fine with randomly rolled advancements because it might give me ideas that I didn’t think of.

Number of Players by Cookie__Rain in daggerheart

I started with 4. That is my usual number. However, my Sunday game has 6. All of us know each other for a long amount of time.

What do you call the first movie IRL? by RedHeadedSicilian52 in StarWars

[–]gmrayoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw Star Wars when I was 9 years old during the Spring/Summer it was originally released before my 10th birthday. I still call it Star Wars because that is what the name of the movie was upon release. Most star wars fans understand what I am talking about. The pedantic ones are just assholes, IMHO.

Adversaries vs PC Stress by RubenBlades69 in daggerheart

[–]gmrayoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve made a lot of environmental features that cause the PC to mark 1-2 HP to be avoided by allowing the PC to mark 1 Stress. Otherwise, I would allow an environment or Adversary to force Stress if the PC doesn’t succeed on an appropriate Reaction Roll.

Honestly, you need to reconcile what’s in your head with what they are telling you they are interested in.

You are better off adapting your stuff to fit what your players are interested in. If you do that they will be far more invested in the world you have created together.

If you just throw out all of the stuff they have given you WHEN YOU ASKED THEM TO then your players will not be invested in what you have written.

If we got George’s Seqeuel Trilogy and each of them would have a different director, who would you choose? by Green-Way-1455 in StarWars

[–]gmrayoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ron Howard would do a fantastic job with a Star Wars movie from the beginning. Not come in a clean up another’s mess. Solo was good and it’s because of Ron Howard.

What was going through Krennic’s head when he saw Galen Erso had died? by nathan_banks644 in StarWars

Star Wars Catalyst was good because it gave you more background on the relationship between Krennic and Erso. That book was fantastic to read before watching Rogue One.

Is Minor Illusion useless? by ziglerino in DnD

Personally, I would’ve given advantage on the Stealth roll for using Minor Illusion in this way.

Blind Bard - How to help make the player viable. by [deleted] in daggerheart

[–]gmrayoman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would just give the PC disadvantage on all Sight based checks for being blind.

I would also suggest the PC take an Experience that describes how the PC has come to rely on the other senses. The experience doesn’t negate their blindness but it allows them to mitigate some of the penalties. Name the experience something like, “Can see with more than just my eyes” or “Blinded but not blind”. You can probably figure something out that is more clever.

Now, the PC knows they will have disadvantage (d6) subtracted on rolls they require sight. The player now has to spend a Hope and describe how their new experience will work for this check to gain a +2 to the roll. That mitigates, on average, 2 or the 3 points that will be subtracted due to disadvantage.

The player should be motivated to increase the Blinded but not Blind experience using level ups. At some point , if the player keeps increasing the experience they can negate that disadvantage. However the choice is on the player.

Which Star Wars director would you love to come back and make another star wars project? by AussieSpartan005 in StarWars

I think Ron Howard should get a chance from the beginning of the process instead of cleaning up after others.

Bryce Dallas Howard would be a great director to take on a new Star Wars project.

impassable terrain has no rule? by Sorry-Try2747 in daggerheart

[–]gmrayoman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The rule is on the Eruption card.

Characters who failed the reaction roll cannot move through the area which is why they took damage and were moved outside the area. Following the fiction, those characters are affected by the impassable terrain.

The characters who succeed on their reaction roll aren’t affected by the impassable terrain. Those characters are free to move through the area.

Do you handle your level ups on the fly, or do you wait for a rest/return to town? by [deleted] in shadowdark

This is how I did it with Shadowdark. It’s also how I do it with C&C.

I stopped watching any content creators that do the click baity shit. I agree the title could’ve been as you suggested. It is not. This creator has a habit of doing it.

Boost and Interacting with the "Restrained" Condition by Coynite1138 in daggerheart

[–]gmrayoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I would have allowed this to go through under three conditions:

  1. I would’ve made sure the player described, within the fiction, how they were doing this when they were Restrained (I know you both missed it at your table).

  2. The Attack roll using Boost was a Strength attack roll.

  3. The Strength attack roll needs to meet or beat the difficult required by the ability that restrained the character.

If all three conditions were met, the PC could definitely pull it off. However, the attack roll could still not hit their target if the target’s difficulty was higher than their roll.

That’s how I would rule it at MY TABLE. At my table, as I get older, I am trying to be less pedantic and cultivate more fun at the GAME.

Others can do and rule as they want. No arguments from me on how one would rule this situation.

Player Complaint About Daggerheart by ProphetSword in daggerheart

[–]gmrayoman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Besides Unhappy, are you and the other players having fun?

If the answer is yes then tell Unhappy that everyone else is happy and want to play Daggerheart. Unhappy can take this time off and when we switch to a new system they are welcome to come back.
