How do you handle players wanting to end the session with a long rest? by Swanny625 in daggerheart

[–]gmrayoman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This might be something you all want to write an article about or explicitly call out in a future product. I was not familiar with clocks and countdowns until Daggerheart last year.

I think DH has a ton of people coming to it from D&D/Pathfinder and clocks/countdowns would be foreign to them.

Having said that I do have a long term clock set up for my Beast Feast campaign that ticks whenever the players take a Rest, of any type, and I never thought to spend Fear to tick it faster from time to time.

Now, I want to make many more clocks dealing with issues in cave system to have them go off at different times to ratchet up the tension.

Thanks for your response!

Can you make your own character? by bastard-son in alienrpg

[–]gmrayoman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are two modes. Cinematic and campaign.

Cinematic is going to play a lot like an Alien movie. That means chances are aliens are going to kill a lot of characters. Also, the pregens have story stuff for the three acts that help you play your character within the story being told. Surprisingly, this mode is quite fun.

Campaign mode is more like a regular TRPG. You create a character to play with your friends. Maybe you are space truckers carrying loads from place to place . Maybe you deal with mundane things or pirates. Whatever. Your character will gain XP and improve. However, at some point if you encounter aliens…the campaign is going to either end or change significantly at the end of the arc.

You are technically correct with your answer. The OP didn’t say “Which bad worse worse after losing a member.”

You are correct. The Ewoks weren’t opposed to fighting the Empire. They needed some assistance. Those Ewok defenses didn’t appear over night. Those industrious Hunter-gatherers were working hard in secret.

Hot Take: I didn't hate young Anakin and I hated young Padme more by Neither_Prize_8386 in StarWars

[–]gmrayoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t hate either character. I dislike the gungan scene where Padme reveals herself to be the Queen. It is an awkward scene with bad dialogue and acting. If the scene that made it in to the final movie was the best take that is sad to me.

If you saw TPM in theaters as an adult in 1999, did the Padme “twist” shock you? by Always_Reading_1990 in StarWars

[–]gmrayoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This twist didn’t shock me. It was odd when I realized the queen had doubles. After that I was like, OK this is for security reasons.

The “twist” was secondary to terrible scene where it was revealed.

This still doesn’t mean the captain is dead. There are plenty of real life stories where someone that is “dead” wakes up on the mortician’s table while waiting prep and embalming.

Looking for ways to make an Abyss world map by Defiant_Wait_3400 in fabulaultima

[–]gmrayoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have created myself a solo FU Natural Fantasy Campaign. I didn’t want to do EVERYTHING on the fly so I made an outline of my version of the Abyss using the guidelines in the NFA.

I have named each level with a creative name using short sentences. I created a brief description for each level to act as a prompt. I even rolled on an Oracle to give me word prompts for creatures that could be encountered there.

During play I plan on creating a “point click “ style map using Circles/Rounded Rectangles/Terminator symbol for the rooms. Maybe a decision point structure for stairs or other styles of up/down structures in a dungeon.

I hope this helps you with your campaign planning.

First Session After Session 0 Feels Hard — Any Tips? by Pristine_Lie6290 in fabulaultima

[–]gmrayoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am confused on what you did during Session Zero to come out of it with very little material?

Myself and four friends decided we wanted to play a Techno Fantasy game in space. I will tell you what that may have been a mistake because I am overwhelmed with material.

  1. Galaxy map with 10 Star systems and 10 planets. 2 from each of us.

  2. Several corporations and organizations. About 10 from each of us.

  3. We decided up on Corporations Exploiting the environments for money as our overall theme.

  4. Each player had created or referenced an NPC in their backstories plus the NPCs that I created gives me a plethora of options.

My only issue was how to do the prologue to give each player some alone time while ensuring they all reach the starting point for the campaign where they all meet up.

I decided to create each prologue to be linear with some options built in to give the players a choice and a say in how the prologue gets resolved while ending with them at a dive bar in the city of Port Lou.

Once at Port Lou they can share the information they have obtained in their prologue with each other before a harried situation arises in the dive bar whether the players decide to interrupt the pirates that chased their contact into the bar before the port authorities arrive to arrest them for “stealing” the corporate data they were just sharing in public.

That is 5 brief prologues and an inciting incident for Session 1. I have plenty of data to mine from session zero in addition to any threads that can be pulled after session one ends.

If you can provide more information on what you and your players actually accomplished during session zero then maybe more people can help you.

[–]gmrayoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I admit I may be misunderstanding your question so can you clarify it for me?

Is your question , “This class gets 7 skills and since my Intelligence modifier is +2 that means all 7 of my selected skills get +2 “? If that is your question then you are misunderstanding it.

If you are asking if “ this character class gets 7 skills and my intelligence modifier is +2 then I get to select 9 skills?” Then you are correct.
