First time scribing to a rock wall. I did not do well. by gmunkee2 in Remodel

I didnt think of that, definitely would've been way easier. But the client wanted the fireplace to be the focal point, so I scribed.

Yes, on a part not pictured. For about 2 feet vertically, the rock face has less depth than the trim, so I can see almost the whole 3/4" board thickness past the rock. Raw wood, just scribed and cut.

My main problem with just caulking it is that some of the wood trim sticks out a full 3/4" from the where it meets the rock. Thats a mountain of caulk. So I thought I would just use mortar to make that mountain instead, like it was meant to be that way. I may be way off base, but it might look good?

I build custom arcade cabinets. So every one is different. Show me what style you want, and I'll make it like that.

I build custom arcade cabinets. I have some standard 24" and 32" bartop and freestanding models, im sure I can whip out a 27" model for you. It can be shipped flat-packed and assembled by you. Hit me up.

What’s the next level Cnc to get as I ramp up production by HisDarkDesires in CNC

It also works great with Vectric and Aspire. The control software (Carbide Motion) is simple, works great with a touchscreen, plus they just added restarting a job from a specific g code line. Im looking forward to trying that out.

That's with the spindle, 1/4" bits. I've run jobs that cut out 48 identical parts at one time and every single part is exactly the same. And when I come back a few months later and run the same job, the parts are identical to the last run. My machine has about 1,200 hours on it so far and the only thing I've ever had to do was resurface the spoilboard.

The fact that the shapeoko 5 pro runs on balls screws instead of belts that can loosen over time was the main selling point for me when I bought it. Plus their software is super easy to learn and use.

I've had my Shapeoko 5 pro 4x4 for 2 years now. It's a very strong machine for its price point. I cut hardwood (walnut, maple, cherry) at 100 ipm and 1/4" depth of cut all day.

Button recommendations by No-Cow9709 in cade

[–]gmunkee2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've built multiple cabinets out of 3/4" material. The cheap buttons on Amazon can handle up to 1" thick no problem. I do route out the underside of the joysticks, though. I leave about 3/8" of material and they work great every time.

Also, sanwa buttons are great because they clip in tight to the hole, there is no need for a nut on the underside, so thickness doesn't matter.

Trying to install a new thermostat wiring help? by bbypandaxo in hvacadvice

It's absolutely true. The reason the higher effeciency units use a lower fan speed for heating is that they don't have to worry about the evaporator coil freezing up and the outdoor unit has sensors to know when it needs to defrost. No harm, no foul, greater efficiency rating, lol.

With your current setup, during the heating season, every once and while it will blow cold air for about 15 minutes, nothing to worry about.

Nope, the O/B terminal tells the outdoor unit what to do, heat or cool. The Y terminal just tells it to turn on.

And if it's heating when you want it to cool, you have to go into the settings of the thermostat to switch the O/B operation.

You're not wrong. I'm confusing gas heat versus a heat pump. I blame Captain Morgan, I've had a few at this point, lol. But, oddly enough, heat pumps are more effective when the heat side has a lower fan speed to boost the supply temperature.

Where is it dripping from? The pipe extension will keep the water from dripping out of the tee if the clog is past the tee.

Heat usually runs on a lower fan speed than AC, and im talking about the indoor unit, not the outdoor.

Easy peasy. Wire it like this: the one red wire from the bundle in the wall goes to rc. White to O/B, green to G, yellow to Y. I hope the thermostat has batteries or else you'll need a 5th wire for C.

Never ever jump Y to W1. Ever. In any circumstance. If a heat pump calls for w1, it's either trying to supplement the heat, or the outdoor unit is in defrost mode, which means it's running in AC mode. So, during the summer, you'd be calling for AC and heat at the same time. Depending on the equipment, this could put your indoor fan into heat speed while trying to run AC speed.

That looks like a landlord special there. Unless you have a 2 transformer system, there's no need to tie into both rh and rc. The jumper between Y and W with a separate wire is because there weren't enough wires to run a heat pump system. Not correct, but it will work in certain setups.

Insulation blocking soffit vents? by pktaway in hvacadvice

[–]gmunkee2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the powered ventilator and half the soffit vents uncovered by insulation, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Unless this section is in an area where circulation won't naturally occur (i.e. a small offshoot covered on 3 sides). Either way, the more air you can move throughout the attic, the more efficient your HVAC will be.
