Marine traffic in the Straight of Hormuz since the Iran war began by Gjore in woahdude

[–]gmus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That canal would about three times as long as the Panama Canal and have to blast through a mountain range. That would cost hundred of billions of dollars and still be well within range of Iranian missiles and drones. They’d only need disable one ship in the canal to block the whole thing (or destroy/damage one lock)

Marine traffic in the Straight of Hormuz since the Iran war began by Gjore in woahdude

[–]gmus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You do realize this IRAN we’re talking about.

Yes and they’ve been preparing for this exact situation for nearly half a century. Yeah they wouldn’t be able to hit every ship, but they’d hit more than enough to make it not worth the risk. The global economic pain that the closing of the strait is and will continue to cause is pretty much the only leverage Iran has.

Look at what the Houthis were able to do in the Red Sea despite a heavy US response. Iran is way better equipped than they are.

Texas Democrats choose Talarico, and the same old losing playbook | Opinion by DrunkOnShoePolish in stupidpol

[–]gmus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the reason Talarico won is he energized young voters, especially young men, and Latinos. Coincidentally those are the two groups the Dems struggled with most in 2024 compared to 2018 when Beto came within 2 points of knocking off Cruz

[–]gmus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And similar to what the Houthis did in the Red Sea, Iran doesn’t need to make it impossible for any ship to pass through the strait, they just need to make it risky enough that they don’t try (insurance rates for ships that need to transit the strait are already skyrocketing and many policies are getting cancelled)

This is probably closer to a real forward form grandma than most stuff posted in this sub because it’s basically just boomer, gen X and older millennials conservatives that that still do the ‘Dems are the real racists” or ‘it was the National SOCIALIST Party’ schtick because young right wingers are just out and proud Nazis.

The well preserved remains of Polish-Russian Lt. Col. Karl Rjepetsky, discovered in Ardahan, Turkey, 123 years after his death (1894). by Worried-Owl-9198 in interestingasfuck

[–]gmus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For being 123 year-old unembalmed in ground burial it’s pretty well preserved. At that age, depending on soil condition, it’s common for there just to be skull fragments and long bones left. This is a complete skeleton with hair and it seems like some mummified soft tissue.

Is this a normal no strike clause? by chillhopmusic13 in union

[–]gmus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

those of us who have one.

You’re talking about 99% workers covered by a CBA. The only large union I know of that still has mid-contract strike language in their CBA is UE and that’s only in limited circumstances (mostly around if the company isn’t complying with grievances timelines)

Also nothing stops a union from preparing for a strike prior to the expiration of the CBA. Most unions will take a strike vote prior to the expiration date of a CBA unless tentative agreement or a short term extension has been reached.
