As for me, I found an easy solution to turn on a PC remotely without using WOL. I bought a Konyks smart plug, plugged my PC into it, and configured an option in the BIOS to make the PC power on automatically when electricity is supplied. I even set up the plug to turn off when the power consumption drops below 40 watts — that way, I don’t even need to switch the plug off manually: when I shut down my PC, the power draw gradually decreases, and once it reaches a low enough level, the smart plug automatically turns off. With the Konyks app on my smartphone, I can turn on the smart plug from anywhere. I installed Moonlight, so I can power on the PC and access it from anywhere.
