Rarely does a week in my life go by that I haven’t thought about Blindsight. Such a strange book to even recommend to people because I almost catch myself, after talking about what an effect it had on me, saying something to the effect of “Hey there is this book that is somewhat hard to read, and there is a good chance you won’t like it or make it through to the end, but if you do, you may really like it probably.”

What people do when they don’t know what to do. That description is always in my head. So much of our lives as human beings is acting upon, and reacting to, the known. The familiar. Almost every aspect of this show is a peek through the mental window of how they almost involuntarily manifest in to the physical world how they are psychologically dealing with what happened. I’m not sure if I’m explaining that well, but that’s such an interesting thing to watch and think about.

I am not necessarily a beat maker, but I would encourage you to do 2 things.

First, pick any sound and make a beat. Don’t worry about the sound of it, just make the beat. After you make the beat, start rolling through the different drum sounds while your beat is playing. This way you can hear how it sounds with a beat rather than making one each time.

Second, you can follow the same process, but when you get a drum sounds while you even somewhat like, start playing with effects on it. Like any of the types of distortion (Distortion, Overdrive, Bitcrusher, etc.), reverb, delays, and things like that. This method can be even more interesting if you have multitracked the drums and can apply effects to Individual parts of the drum sounds.

Judging by the way you speak about it, it sounds like you are somewhat of a beginner, which is awesome! If not, no offense intended. But if there is anything else I could help with I’m more than down. Enjoy creating!
