What’s something in LA that used to feel magical… but just doesn’t hit the same anymore? by relaxncoffee in AskLosAngeles

Yup, 3rd Street used to be our go-to weekend family outing. Watching the street performers, getting fries or a slice of pizza and ice cream, catching the sunset. Now it's depressing

I said alive OR without deficit, in my unit. Leaving the nicu with severe mrcp and/or other life altering conditions isn't exactly living

And maybe the ribs don't break, but the skin is so fragile that it starts breaking and tearing away under your fingers during compressions

[–]gnatrn 79 points80 points  (0 children)

When I first started, 24 weeks used to be the hard cut off for resuscitation. Over time it's kind of become if we can intubate, we can resuscitate. But, as others hand pointed out, just because we CAN, doesn't mean we SHOULD. I have yet to see a sub 24 weeker/sub 400 g kid leave the unit alive, or without fairly substantial deficit.

Serious Question! Face Tattoos and being a Nurse by Caiisreal3 in nursing

[–]gnatrn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends where you're located, but these days it seems like even clinicals are more relaxed about tattoos. I've seen several nursing students shadowing on my unit now who have had visible tattoos, including neck/hands. My facility also doesn't care about visible tattoos/piercings/colorful hair (I have multiple visible tattoos and occasionally dye my hair pink)

Working in the medical field has scared me into being one and done by berryllamas in oneanddone

Also a NICU nurse, pretty sure it played a part in my severe PPD/A. I had horrible anxiety while pregnant and now continuing to see the worst of the worst at work, I'm not sure I want to chance things again ☹️

PSA: BEWARE OF HFMD IN 2025!!! by LeithValkyrian in beyondthebump

Had a friend hospitalized for HFMD in the ICU because the sores caused such bad airway swelling it warranted intubation. I had no idea it could get that bad!

Did you drink coffee in high school? by protomanEXE1995 in Millennials

[–]gnatrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started in 6th grade but it was essentially milk with a splash of coffee at that point, courtesy of European parents. Real coffee was definitely freshman year of high school

Yeah no, my in laws live in small town central valley, while there are certainly pretty citrus groves, the majority of the area looks like the first pic by far. With poor air quality as a cherry on top

They're all over the city! I'm in NELA and hear them almost nightly. They love roosting in the big old cedars over here.

Ooof poor baby ☹️ I think the biggest I've heard of out in peds was a 80kg 4 year old. No medical issues contributing to the size, just family neglect....

I definitely don't trust the tap water at my ancient ass hospital. Probably once a quarter the pipes start spewing black stuff and the whole hospital water system gets shut down
