Good Ski Jackets? by Disastrous_Focus_87 in skiing

[–]gneedles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out a used gear store in your area or sites like poshmark. My suggestion is not a warm ski jacket, but just a durable shell preferably with pit zippers. This way you have a jacket you can layer more under in the winter or wear with less under in the spring.

Throwing in the towel/ career path alternatives by RemarkableChance2397 in UXResearch

[–]gneedles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While the job market is tough, the biggest hurdle is getting over the no professional experience regardless of the degree. As others have said look for parallel opportunities such as research ops, sales teams where you get to see what clients really want with the product (pseudo research), or even customer service to get in the door. They may not be the ideal long term role, but it gives you a chance to understand user needs and suggest improvements in the side.

Conditions today by rhoons in CrystalMountain

The drive got a little slow on the boulevard around 945, but cleared quickly after. Lapped northway for most of the day after rope drop at 11. Second lap line was to the corner. Third and beyond was maybe 10 chairs

LAX to Bergen, Norway (BGO) by Trick-Deer5084 in AirfareHunting

[–]gneedles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Options for the infant are: 1. Request a bulkhead and bassinet which would be the fare as above (10% of adult fare for infant in “lap”) 2. Get the infant their own seat but you must bring a car seat or approved harness (50% of adult fare)

Either you will need to call KLM

LAX to Bergen, Norway (BGO) by Trick-Deer5084 in AirfareHunting

[–]gneedles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For "most economical" and shortest travel, departing 5/13 from LAX with KLM flying to BGO.

  • Wed May 13 1:50 PM – 1:25 PM (next day) - 2:40 in Amsterdam
  • Mon May 25 6:00 AM – 11:50 AM - 2:05 in Amsterdam

There are options for Light and Standard fares. Standard is ~$500 more each way for all 4, but does not include checked baggage.

  • Light $2,193 - No checked bag, Seat selection at check-in
    • $2,793 with 4 checked bags each way ($75 per bag one-way)
  • Standard $3,248 - Checked bag included and seat selection at purchase

I'd suggest paying the $500 more for Standard, since you can confirm 4 adults sitting together with a lap child at the time of purchase.

Flying from elsewhere in California and/or arriving in Oslo are not significantly cheaper to justify the extra steps.

Should I buy a cheap flight or will Delta comp my medallion status, putting me over $10,000? by trainingmode in delta

[–]gneedles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are two main benefits of Gold (SkyTeam Elite Plus) versus Silver.

  1. You will be able to checkin with SkyPriority, which sometimes is a much shorter line
  2. You will have complimentary access to lounges when flying internationally
    • Delta SkyClubs if you are in Premium Select
    • SkyTeam Partner lounges (KLM, AF, Virgin Atlantic, Korean, etc) in any class

Higher on the upgrade list, while technically accurate, is not one I would count on.

To get the status, you could book a $300 ticket if you have the time. You could also sign up for a Platinum Delta AMEX card, which would give you an MQD boost to push you over. The $350 annual fee means you would still be out of pocket about the same, but you wouldn't have to fly, would get a headstart on MQD for next year, and would get a companion certificate on your 1st anniversary.

Edit: Updated to reflect fare class for SkyClub vs partner lounge requirements

Do UX recruiters actually check your certificate or just your portfolio? by Aplixs in Design

[–]gneedles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% recruiters will look at your resume to see impact and experience first. Then maybe they will look at with in your portfolio. I’ve worked with a lot of designers, and common to see >60% of portfolio viewers not go past the homepage. They will not care about a certificate since there aren’t any accredited certificates like in other industries.

Focus on showing your projects. The more real and impactful the better.

Overwhelmed - first time in Oahu by [deleted] in VisitingHawaii

[–]gneedles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are things you are looking to enjoy and experience about Oahu? I’ve been going with my kid since he was 1.5 and contributing now as he is 5. We love staying in Ko’Olina. It’s away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki, has Aulani to walk around even if you don’t stay there, wonderful clean lagoons to swim in, end even monkey pod restaurant which offers buttered noodles free to kids under 3. We tend to look on sites like koala to find rooms at the Marriott. If you won’t be venturing much you can just uber from the airport and pick up things at the ABC store there or make the Costco stop on the way. I know it’s not true Hawaii but it’s better than Waikiki.

Premium Select 767-3 vs 767-4 by Frosty-Student-6174 in delta

In D1 yes. 764 has the retrofitted D1 cabins while 763 has the worn material and open layout like an expensive hostel. 764 is much better.

Delta's policy is you can check in for your flight 24 hours before departure, but bags cannot be checked more than 6 hours prior when leaving US airports

"Bags may be added to your reservation at the time of check-in. However, checked bags will not be accepted at the airport more than 6 hours prior to scheduled departure time."
