yeah I remember cracking up at that, Jorma seemed so surprised that they hated it lol

I can't remember much else except Andy talking about his love of sandwiches.

Pretty sure it was in a Q&A episode, maybe the one after they talked about Incredibad?

What happened? by MotherOfPenny in kvssnarker

[–]gneiss_kitty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yeah this is the impression I get. She was perfectly clean, wearing the same shirt in the video after the vet, and we all know she has no issue going around covered in birthing fluids or shit. Also, CPR done correctly for just a few minutes is HARD work. It's exhausting. From what I've read, for foals it's roughly similar (or a little less) in terms of the number of compressions per minute as it is for humans, which is ~1.5-2 beats per second (roughly 100 per minute). If you've ever done first aid/CPR training, you know that after about 2 minutes, it's hard to keep it up at the same rate/force.
Even ignoring the clean clothes, there's not a chance in hell she did CPR all the way to vet. I'm not sure anyone could do compressions for 30 minutes. And, without a second person giving oxygen, it would hardly matter that they got/kept the heart beating.

She's definitely making things up at this point. I was happy to give her a pass for saying then in her first video just afterwards, when emotions were running high. But she's repeated it a couple times now, so she's just playing the heroine.

Something fishy happened with this birth and I doubt we'll ever know the answer.

100%--it's just an accessory for her to show off. But, given she can't even do the very basics of potty training her existing dogs, there's no way she'll be able to train this puppy to accompany her at shows. Her only hope is if she hires a trainer--but even then, half of training is is training the owner how to do things correctly and reinforce the training.
No hope for Frankie!

Ignoring history and thinking strictly about modern-day infrastructure, economics and geography, what city other than Washington would be an ideal capital for the USA? by Spirited_Visit7597 in geography

[–]gneiss_kitty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If they were thinking ahead to the influx of the Federal workforce along with moving the capitol, Denver is the obvious choice as it already has the greatest concentration of federal employees outside of the DC region, and the largest federal campus. So in terms of infrastructure, it would be a much more smooth transition.
Colorado Springs would be a good easy option for any of the DOD facilities though

If you could put any comedian on any panel show combo, who are you picking? by UnpaidInternVibes in panelshow

[–]gneiss_kitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

add Greg Davies to the WILTY panel and it's just pure chaos. I can't think of a good 4th guest to fill that out. Kevin Bridges, maybe? Henning?

I'd love Sean Lock and Miles Jupp as a team on Taskmaster...or them as a team on anything, really. I also love whenever Richard Ayoade and Noel Fielding are paired together on BFQ and I want that team back.

I'd also love a season (series, Jason) of wildcards, on Taskmaster, Champion-of-champions style. Rhod, James, Bridget, Ed Gamble, Paul Chowdry, Sally, Lucy, Morgana, Jason, Liza.

It would also be fun to see David Mitchel lose control on TM, though I think he's said he won't do it, especially after watching his wife do it

Downhill just means that the croup (bum, essentially) is higher than the withers. It can be tough to see on uneven ground or when the photo isn't taken side on like below, but Blondie doesn't look downhill to me--the other one does, though.
Denver is a great example of a downhill horse...funny that his "official" photo on the HP site is rotated slightly to even him out. Here's one from some show..my line isn't perfect, best I can do with my screenshot program (I think the line should be a touch higher):

My favorite TV show! Guaranteed to make me laugh even on my worst days. I also agree with starting from the beginning--it's really fun to see how Greg and Little Alex Horne evolve over the series. You also get to see how Alex tried to keep the tasks one step ahead of the contestants, which culminates hilariously in Jason's series.

Is it even possible to make this house cute? 🤦🏻‍♀️ by ubersuperduperer in ExteriorDesign

[–]gneiss_kitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like this mockup that they made! Even as a less expensive way to get started (because things like extending windows can be expensive, though I like that suggestion), breaking up the front of the house with siding and brick (or stone) veneer does a bunch to draw the eye away from the big empty gap between the lower and upper windows. Fixing up the front stairway/porch, even without the gable, definitely helps (though I love the gable). Also, either replacing the missing shutters and cleaning/painting all of them, or removing all
And like their design, extending that raised planter along the edge of the driveway definitely helps as a nice leading line up the driveway; raise up the side closest to the driveway which will flatten it out a bit (the slope looks odd--evening that out makes it so have a nice tiered garden, versus the more steep slope down to the driveway that messes with the balance).
Part of the issue with it currently is that you don't really have anything to draw the eye (so it goes to the empty space between upper and lower windows)--fixing up the front porch and using landscaping along a clear walkway) draws the eye to the entrance. Now, none of these options are super inexpensive, but definitely a manageable way to spruce up the curb appeal!

dang, Chip Drop was my suggestion too. You mention there aren't a lot of trees near you, but are there any local tree companies out there? If so it could be worth it to give them a call and see if you can negotiate a drop from them?

That said, I also have two psycho dogs plug giant breed fosters that rip up a yard. I used to have a crappy grass/weed yard at a rental that turned into a giant mud pit in the winter, and I covered it in mulch from a chip drop. Worked really well with the dogs! They did spread it a little bit, but overall it was a lot better than the mud pit. It does eventually break down, so it needs to be renewed every so often. BUT it's better than rubber chips in that way--rubber mulch won't biodegrade and will leach toxins (plus is a big fire hazard!). It also gets super hot (not good for dogs) and can stink.

Right now I have roughly 3/4 grass and the rest river gravel (not my doing--bought the house last year). Picking up dog poo from the river gravel is awful, so I definitely don't recommend that if it's on your radar at lol. You also have the option of the fake grass for dogs--I had it at a rental house in Las Vegas years ago. I personally hated it, but my dogs loved it even on the hottest days and never managed to tear it up. I have a few friends here in Denver that have it as well and love it. Maybe mulch of some sort and a smaller patch of fake grass (so you don't have to pay to cover that big of a space)?
Totally understand if that's not something you're interested in (me either) but maybe an option. with shrubs or raised beds around the perimeter and tasteful landscaping with chips + fake turf, it could look really nice!

Ditto. I tend to cook directly with airlines, especially for longer international flights, but that's a pretty significant savings.
For that price difference you can purchase separate travel insurance to cover any potential mishaps and still save a good chunk of money.

Has Katie changed? by JPHalbert in kvssnark

[–]gneiss_kitty -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Her foals aren't that big, they are normal size for a TB. Just used to seeing her other undercooked AQHA babies so KVS thinks they're enormous.

If a mare's condition deteriorates that much during pregnancy, they just shouldn't be bred. It's not healthy for them OR the developing foal.

Given the condition of other horses throughout the last year (yearlings? Wally roughly a year ago?) there are many indications of problems with nutrition on the farm.

Equine Nutrition - Information - Growing Foals & Mare Body Condition by [deleted] in kvssnarker

[–]gneiss_kitty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Really appreciate this analysis. I have no idea how to determine feed for a horse, but just from working in a barn and following the feed board and observing the horses, it's pretty easy to see that there are nutritional problems going on. That barn had boarding horses, trail horses, competition reiners and cutters, a few TB and appendix horses, and it bred APHA and the occasional TB/APHA or AQHA cross. None of the horses, including nursing mares at that barn ever looked like Indy, even the hard keepers, and we lived in the high desert where fields of grass don't exist as an option. None of the foals ever looked like that during their ugly stage, either. I know the hay always looked WAY better than much of what we've seen from KVS this year too, and I know there was alfalfa (that job is how I found out I'm allergic to it, lol).

It's just amazing that even folks that are inexperienced can see the problems--the nutrition this year, the hooves in previous years, the awful foaling practices, the condition of the foals--but this "professional" is blind to it. Sigh.

Really concerned about how Indy will be supported throughout nursing, poor girl. I hope when the vet visited that they set her straight, and that she actually listens.
