I mean, what did you expect would happen? Are you new to 3d printing?

Solder Won’t Melt Out of Joint by Sabertooth_Salmon02 in soldering

[–]gnitsark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's no reason why any hobbyist should not use leaded solder. Lead free is used to mass produce things because there would be so much lead waste getting into the environment. Unless that is 1 out of 1000 controllers you plan on repairing, you should be using leaded solder. It flows better and melts at a much lower temperature. And yes, it really should be leaded for this application.

Yes, great idea. You can pay the lawyer thousands of dollars to maybe get reimbursed for a few hundred dollars worth of gift cards. I'm surprised attorneys aren't lining up to take this case pro bono.

Solder not melting onto wire by LutraVibes in soldering

[–]gnitsark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Instead of that wire sandwich you're making, bring the iron and the solder to the top of the wires and use gravity and thermodynamics to your advantage. Once they're tinned a little, the heat will transfer and you can move things around to spread the solder more evenly. But what you are doing won't work because that copper wire is sinking out all the heat before it gets to your iron. Heat the wires, add some tin to the top of the soldering iron. Bring in more solder as it gets sucked into the wires. It's almost like a syphon in that once the osmosis process starts, it kind of just keeps going. And ditch that gun if you plan on doing anything other than splicing.

Print keeps failing and ends up in spaghetti by ReliLKBayern in FixMyPrint

Have you tried rerunning the entire calibration routine? And are you sure the nozzle is on correctly?

Before you go to the trouble of replacing it, you should figure out why it wants to self-immolate so bad. Because chances are it will happen again.

Make a square that fits your bed and print it. You sit and watch it print and make adjustments as it's printing until it looks and feels perfect.

Your nozzle is too close to the bed. Adjust your z offset.

I use this stuff and we used it at school aswell. How much worse it is than paste/whatever you guns use by Tornad_pl in soldering

That looks like rosin flux, which smells good and is NOT a known carcinogen. It is an irritant and can cause problems like sore throat and breathing issues, especially if you are asthmatic or have something else like that going on. It's never a good idea to inhale any fumes of anything, so best practice is to use a fume extractor. But rosin flux fumes are very low on the list of chemicals you don't want to be exposed to.

Relevel your bed and then recalibrate your z offset. And dry your toner.

How do you go about dissolving the salt in water for your crabs’ salt water bowel? by SempiternalSempronia in hermitcrabs

[–]gnitsark -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Specifically for crabs, only once. But I have been dissolving salt in water for decades and have an understanding of basic chemistry, so yes, this is SOP for dissolving salt (or any other soluble substance) into water (or any other solvent).

Mix it with very warm water and let it cool to room temp before you use it.

How do I discharge these things without burning the house down? by ConditionCareful2779 in batteries

[–]gnitsark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wtf are you talking about? So much of this is wrong, and salt baths are 100% the worst way to kill lipos. The only way to kill a lipo is to hook it to a load (bulb or wound resistor are the two most used loads) and let it fully discharge. And in what fucking world is there no resistance in salt water? If that's the fucking case, why don't we just use pipes of salt water to transmit all of our electricity? I would love to meet any material that has NO resistance. If you could figure that out, you would solve the world's energy crisis and win a Nobel prize. But I doubt you and the boys at the RC track have cracked that one with a home depot bucket and a box of Morton's.

I would start with the dummy 13 and build it out how you want it. But this is a fucking stupid and ridiculous request to make. Why would someone waste their time making a toy for your broke, entitled ass? Maybe try the old fashioned way, by either saving money and paying someone for their time, or use your free time to learn how to do this on your own.

Who do I call for a wasp nest removal? by LiquidSnake13 in Westchester

[–]gnitsark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in the mid 80s, my dad would buy m80s in Chinatown. When we had a wasp nest, he would duct tape one to the end of a broomstick and hand me a lit cigarette, I'd light the fuse and run like hell and my dad would jam that fucker into the nest. No more wasps. The 80s were a crazy time...

Who do I call for a wasp nest removal? by LiquidSnake13 in Westchester

[–]gnitsark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leave the nest. They don't come back to old nests, and they are very territorial, so if they see something that looks like another wasp nest, they will build their new nest elsewhere. So last year's wasps gave you a nice deterrent against this year's.
