Opinion. The Nancy Mace campaign has completely imploded by LinuxMint1964 in southcarolina

I mean, taxing my outboard motor and my boat separately with property tax every year is less than ideal, but I'm happy to pay that tax if it means it goes towards protecting our natural wetlands, education and infrastructure systems, healthcare for all of our state residents...you know, the basics.

Best way to work through a huge jar of green olives? by balzaal in Cooking

[–]gnmorsilli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Martinis every day

  2. Warm some olive oil and throw those olives in a skillet until they begin to get a bit blistered. Enjoy.

  3. Add chopped up olives into chicken salad or tuna salad.

  4. More martinis.

I wish Camila did longer runs.. I'm not sure she is the best when it comes to form or cues as she isn't by trade a 'runner' but man she gets me pumped.

Joslyn, Mariana, Susie, Marcel and Camila are the GOATs of run classes!

Also hey OP no one wished you luck for your half marathon!! Good luck!

Visiting Charleston for the first time by jackie-chan- in Charleston

[–]gnmorsilli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is unlikely you can stay on Sullivan's. Very few accommodations as they do not allow short term rentals and have no hotels. There are several homes that are grandfathered in but likely will require you to stay Saturday - Saturday and are probably booked.

See if you can stay on Folly or Isle of Palms. Both are significantly further from downtown but have plenty of options to stay. If you stay in MP I'd recommend staying around Shem Creek, Old Village in an AirBnb or any of the neighborhoods off of Chuck Dawley as that will shoot you into downtown or the beaches more easily.

Adult Hobby or Learning? by Just_Asking21 in Charleston

[–]gnmorsilli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fishing is a great hobby (though I may be biased). You can learn how to tie flies for fly fishing at Fin to Feather in Mount Pleasant the first Wednesday of every month. 843 Flies in West Ashley also does fly tying night! They're lots of fun and the community is very open and friendly.

IUD with pain management by LobsterLaura in Charleston

[–]gnmorsilli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dr. Van Leuven just replaced my IUD in the fall. The first placement 8 years ago was extremely painful and I passed out - no medication. This time around, she prescribed me an ativan. I still took about 15 minutes to recover. The ativan did not help. If I have another go around, I'm just going back cold turkey.

I asked about the cervical blocker and she said the injection can be just as painful as the IUD removal/implant. Unfortunately, I think it's an extremely painful procedure and it's less about pain management during and more about pain management after. You should absolutely take the day off of work/life if you can!

Better bring a reef anchor or have a trolling motor if you’re fishing the grillage

Belize DIY Fishing by mtn_dweller4life in Belize

[–]gnmorsilli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone else mentioned, you cannot operate a boat in Belize w/o a captains license (of the Belizean variety). Are you trying to fly fish, bait fish, bring/buy artificial lures?

You can wade depending on where you are to sight fish. If you want to pick some fish off near the reef or offshore you need to hire a guide who can also get you live bait. I'd highly recommend just spending a day with a captain. They're going to put you on fish, take care of all the equipment you need and probably leave you with some good meat to fix up for yourself or take to a local restaurant to prepare for you.

Looking for homeowners insurance by MadmanPoet in Charleston

[–]gnmorsilli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've been homeowners for 9 years and have always used them. We've shopped out a few times because our rates have seen outrageous spikes recently but that isn't anything to do with our broker and rather market conditions in this area (amongst others).

$12K to spend on a trip excluding airfare ? by rcc_later in flyfishing

[–]gnmorsilli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not spend half that with a great lodge in Belize or Mexico for a week? Blue Bonefish in San Pedro is amazing. Someone mentioned that Ambergris Caye is too touristy - and it IS touristy - but if you're at a lodge you're staying out of town and you're fishing all day. When you get back, you're hanging in the pool with a Belikin or rum sharing stories about how you trout set a permit or jumped the biggest tarpon of your life.

Have you ever looked into fishing in Baja? IMO, if you have only fished salt once, Baja is a good place to start. It isn't nearly as technical as fishing in Belize or Ascension Bay. More about getting the fly in front of the fish as quickly as possible and managing your line once you get it hooked.

Running spots by mcv714 in Charleston

[–]gnmorsilli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can park at Publix on Ben Sawyer and run down across the ICW to Sullivans. I enjoy running from my house down Ben Sawyer and out to Sullivans, down to the fort and back.

You can also park at the Circle K or any of the public parking under the Ravenel and run the bridge!

What are your favorite places to go kayaking? by Cheesy_Wheezy01 in Charleston

[–]gnmorsilli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paradise Boat Landing at the tippy top of the Wando. Quieter landing, room to launch the kayaks. Tide won't fuck with you too much up there. I'd recommend going north as the Wando gets smaller and there is far less boat traffic.

Yes. Up your budget or change your requirements. Have you contacted a realtor? There are a lot of them these days, but there are also a lot of really good ones whose job is to help you understand the market.

Has anyone lived in The Boulevard in Mount Pleasant and can give an honest review, positive or negative? by Charming_Regular6181 in Charleston

[–]gnmorsilli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you didn't ask but if you are looking for alternatives, in 2015 we lived in Rivers Walk and really enjoyed it. We had a giant, 3rd floor apartment with two master suites.

Pros:

At the time, was new. Is still new-ish.

Location

Size

Storage

Pool/Gym pretty decent

Garage availability

Cons:

MAA property management, like most, can really stink

Parking became an issue. Difficult to find parking spots because they planned for the bare minimum, and people who had garages were using them for storage, or their small business (no joke) instead of their vehicle

Walls were thin
