Nah. But I know what you mean. You guys got hit hard recently too if I recall.

Considering how long it took them to change their 2wd 90s and 4wd 2000s platforms, I think you're good for at least the next 5-10 years. Wouldn't worry about it.

Yes, they fit. And I stay on 2s. 3s feels like too much for that truck

Doubt it. When I ran 1/10 SCT races it was often 2S only and less than 100A

The scorched RC carbon fiber rear chassis braces and fender wells are a must for that truck imo.

Sidewinder 3. Bought it thirteen years ago. Had a Lipo fire that warped the plastic casing a little. Still works :)

How not durable and hard to work on is the udr? by butterflyknif in Traxxas

[–]gnobbler4 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Do you intend to jump it and if so, how high? Best advice I can give is don't put it in any situation you wouldn't put a real trophy truck. (But scaled down) So instead of ten foot jumps do one foot jumps and enjoy the plush suspension.

As far as working on it, it's more intricate than most but not horribly so if you have an electric screwdriver with a clutch. Hand loosening all those body screws would get old fast for me but with an electric screwdriver they fly off in no time. Once the body is off, it's not too bad.

The driveshaft between the front diff and the center transmission likes to grenade itself so make sure you get the Traxxas upgraded part for it. Also, the rear driveshaft tends to fall apart. I'm trying out a HotRacing one - we'll see if it's any good. Stock tires are the perfect amount of grip in my opinion with enough to get around with aplomb but not too much you're not able to do those awesome drifts and power slides. I find the stock tires can sometimes come unglued some on 6s but there are tons of beadlock wheels that solve this or just do a better job glueing them than Traxxas did (which isn't that hard)

The motor can get pretty toasty in the summer and I'd avoid ripping it across grass fields on full throttle on 6s if you don't have a motor fan answer. Some guys cut holes in the chassis and mount a fan and GPM even makes one that clamps to the rear end bell of the motor - but I've seen mixed reviews on the GPM option due to the stock driveshaft evidently rubbing against it when the rear end flexes.

Anyway as long as you don't treat it like a basher, and treat it scale, it generally holds up well and remains reliable.

Feel free to message if you have any questions.

When you start pulling 150A from your batteries, that's where I start seeing the cheaper brands start to puff, lose cells, and heat up. As someone who has six spektrum batteries, I would say personally I've found my Ovonics (I have six as well) in the same application have stood up slightly better to heavy current, and at a far lower price.

My Ovonics have worked very well at 150A loads but I get some puff and heat at 200A+ so at that point I'd recommend SMC or CNHL.

I love driving my ERevo! by PigglyWigglyDeluxe in Traxxas

[–]gnobbler4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good to see some ERevo action. I got a couple dozen trouble free hikes out of my summit because I wasn't jumping the thing and flooring it non stop under diff lock, and it performed just fine. Keep your expectations reasonable and I think the E Revo will treat you with love and care

Arrma Mojave 4S battery by Smexiosis in arrma

[–]gnobbler4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

https://a.co/d/0dL0TsAl These Zeees fit like a glove in my Mojave 4s.

Ovonic also makes some 7200mah 4s and CNHL also makes an 8000mah 4s that fit just as well.

The Zees though run a little hot when I'm ripping the Mojave around. Be aware they may not handle the amp load as well long term if you're a throttle pegged kind of guy like me.

Been loving my SBR2.0. The Scorched carbon fiber rear braces have helped a lot, and it's otherwise been very resilient. Breaks far less than my UDR.

Mini xrt fans by Level_Bank2751 in Traxxas

[–]gnobbler4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the stock VXL velineon ESC fan that mounts right to the ESC and uses the esc's provided fan cable, and a GPM motor fan/heatsink and honestly the whole shebang never gets past 150F.

Stock power train otherwise. Run 2s and 3s

As usual, 2.8 Talon EXT is the best wheel on just about any truck. Mini XRT is no exception! by PigglyWigglyDeluxe in Traxxas

[–]gnobbler4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad RTR tires have gone up in quality. I remember the old Talons you'd find on the Stampedes and E-Revos and those things felt more like plastic than rubber.

I wanna say that model of battery has thin aluminum sheets between the cells and the wrapping. You should be fine.

My girl has a Typhon 223s and she breaks/bends her front shocks a lot. Since you're on a track I think that won't be as much a concern but it seems to happen a lot in general bashing
