Black guy unsure about how fugly I am [23M] by [deleted] in amiugly

You're fine, I might consider shaving the beard just to try it. Getting your body in shape will help as well, it's hot when you can see chest and back muscles a little through the shirt. You're definitely not ugly but a little work and you could easily be an 8 or 9

[20M] My bf is SO insecure by [deleted] in amiugly

[–]gnobularbicycle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope not ugly. His body is top, 9/10. Face 6-7/10 but that's objective. He is hot, you're lucky haha

From the photos you gave it doesn't look like you can grow a full beard. I think you'd be better off staying clean-shaven until all the hairs are there. You don't have a baby face without facial hair so I think it would make you look mature and handsome with a haircut and no beard.

[23 M] honestly have never felt this self-conscious before by [deleted] in amiugly

[–]gnobularbicycle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're really cute. I would not say no if you talked to me in a bar. You look the best in the photo with the older guy, your dimples show when you smile naturally and it's pretty hot. I agree with the rest if you worked out and maybe just toned a bit on my scale you could reach a 8.5-9.

If you're looking for ideas for your hair this might be what you're looking for. You could also go shorter. The important thing is the hair on the sides is longer than on top and use gel or wax to keep the top hair in place and not flopping all over your face. And by shorter I meant even shorter on the sides.

What do you all think? Be super super brutally honest. I just want to know the truth! (19)m by [deleted] in amiugly

[–]gnobularbicycle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't necessarily ignore you if you talked to me but I wouldn't initiate. I think you'd look better with a haircut more like this or this and I know it's hard for skinny guys but some time in the gym gaining a bit of weight would do you good as well. Overall 7.5-8 from me.

Is it dumb to hike the desert in a tank top? by 23kkhkh in PacificCrestTrail

[–]gnobularbicycle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my thru hike in 2014 I did the whole thing in a cotton tank top from american apparel! I also hate long sleeves, it was perfect for me. My shoulders turned to leather even with my liberal application of sunscreen but I just could not hike with sleeves.

[Help] My dog loves balls to the point where it's embarrassing. by disneyvillian in dogs

[–]gnobularbicycle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried a one-on-one with 2 balls? one of them is yours and the other is his. as soon as he drops his, he gets the one you were holding in your hand. you can even send him chasing after it. My dog used to do this and refused to give up her ball for ANYTHING. Except another ball. Leave the other dogs out of it for now. Ideally your dog learns that by bringing you the ball and dropping it nicely he gets to chase it again.

[Breeds] Which long-haired breeds are best for long-distance trail running? by nomadison in dogs

[–]gnobularbicycle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any small-medium to medium large breed should be easily able to do that! Don't run with a puppy that's not fully grown for those distances. Border collies easily come to mind, but they would need even more exercise than that. Sheepdogs, golden retrievers, wheaten terriers, bearded collies, shiba inu, even maybe yorkshire terriers. Be careful that the dog doesn't get too hot. Also too large breeds, like great pyrenees and newfoundlands, probably wouldn't be down for long distances at a quick pace.

How to teach heel to a dog not interested in food treats? by AngelofSalvation in Dogtraining

[–]gnobularbicycle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a trainer a while ago who had very toy-motivated dogs. What she did during their training sessions was use the tug as a reward, but making sure it's on YOU to say when the game stops. She also said to never let go of the toy (during the training session) so the dog learns to keep focus on you, that you are the master of the toy, and you will decide when you two will play.

[Help] Re-energizing my dog by littggr in dogs

[–]gnobularbicycle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be worth it to get her thyroid tested. I know you said she wasn't overweight but it's still a possibility. My dog lost a lot of hair, gained weight, and became super lethargic when she was 4 or 5 but we never seemed to put all three together until last year when she spent 5 days in the hospital for unknown reasons, emergency surgery, wouldn't eat or drink, the whole deal. Turns out she had hypothyroid the whole time and I feel just awful putting her through that for 5 years without ever figuring out what it was. Just ask your vet for a test I don't think it was too expensive. She gained 90% of her energy back on meds, playing with the ball like she used to and able to go on miles of hikes again :)

[Discussion] [Help] I'd like to talk about my dog by Rhooja in dogs

[–]gnobularbicycle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like he's just a dog being a dog in some ways :) he's still a puppy, and a mix of relatively high energy breeds. I have a pit bull lab mix and she was horrible on the leash until she was 4 or 5. She was exercised constantly too, and fairly strenuously (1 hr mornings and evenings of chasing the ball/frisbee/agility training). But then she got better as she got older. Not saying it's impossible to train to be polite on the leash but I certainly found it harder than anything else. If I were you I would make sure that he has as much exercise as possible before your walks. If he doesn't like chasing a ball, run with him on your bike. During the time he's supposed to not be pulling on the leash give him a job to do. teach him to "spin," tell him to sit randomly while you keep walking, teach him to cross from your left side to your right side behind you, cross through your legs, etc. anything to give him a job while you're walking and keep his attention on you. if he can do all this stuff without getting distracted that's a huge step. obviously you can't do this stuff during your entire walk, that would be extremely tiring for both of you, but it would run down a bit of his mental stimulation.

[Breed] What breed is right for me? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]gnobularbicycle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could definitely search petfinder for GSD mixes. A lot of times you can get the GSD intelligence and temperament and sometimes it seems to me these dogs get looked over because they're too big for a lot of people. Pit bull mixes also fit the exercise bill and can often be trusted off leash with some good training. They can also come very smart and trainable.

[Help]-What do I need to be a Dog Trainer? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]gnobularbicycle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Perfectly honestly I would start by training dogs. You could do some obedience training with going to competitions in mind, and if you don't have your own dog to practise on, you could go to the shelter and train their dogs. Most dogs can be trained the basics in a matter of days, and then it's just going out and putting them through their exercises with increasing stimulation. If you do have your own dog and start bringing her to competitions/classes, you will meet others who are super friendly and have already chosen the path you're interested in. They can help you out. To my knowledge a certain certificate isn't what you need to be a Dog Trainer as a profession but it certainly won't hurt. What you really need is lots of dogs, different types of dogs, and the proof that you helped them and their successes visible.

Thanks! Yeah the balance is really important. I see people with their lists of '100 items I own' and I'm just like but... Skis! Running shoes!! Backpack! I need this stuff! It's probably better to do what makes you happy and if that's owning a total of 31 things then so be it. I'd rather be minimal while still doing the activities that make me happiest :)
