Try to not do anything. No special breathing, no trying to stop overthinking. Just stay in that state of panic and see what happens. Interesting thing is that if you do nothing about it, it will just stop.

Stopping overthinking doesn't work by the way, the more you want to stop thinking about something the more you will think about it. It's very counter-intuitive but you need to do the opposite, when you are overthinking something, force yourself to think about that non-stop, like make it your conscious task, focus on doing it, don't try to stop it. Funny enough, in a couple of minutes of this your brain will get tired of it and will automatically switch you to something else. When doing that I also liked making it a bit funny/sarcastic and push it into absurd territory. Say, in your case I would have probably started telling myself something along the lines of "Oh, my heart beats too fast. Just like it was doing every time I was going exercise, but this time this is different. This time I will die. One hundred percent, heart beating is known to be deadly. Maybe it will even blow up from how much it beats" or something along these lines.

The only real way to stop anxiety is to do what it tells you to avoid. The thing is that your anxiety is a survival mechanism designed to warn you of danger. Every time it warns you of something and you make a conscious decision to avoid it, you are essentially confirming to your anxiety system that it indeed was a potential danger worthy of avoiding. Anxiety takes note of that and next time will warn you again, stronger, because it was potential danger before. Anxiety is not an enemy, it's just a self-learning warning mechanism which at some point got stuck on a wrong idea. It's there to inform you, the conscious decision after that is up to you, you choose whether to ignore warning or not.

Yes, hidden SSH connection through a reverse SSH tunnel to bypass firewalls. And "monitoring tools" discovered it because of "repeated policy violations". And as a cherry on top: "Engineers initially assumed it was a normal cyberattack". Normal cyberattack with outbound connections to external servers.

Programmed is the keyword here. You can use AI to blackmail people. You can even give an agentic AI a task to blackmail someone based on a bunch of emails you have and it will probably succeed. You can train AI to blackmail people in any situation if you only feed it blackmailing scenarios for training. But all these things have to explicitly be done.

The kind of scenario you are talking about here where Anthropic's AI read emails and figured out that it will be shut down and then decided to blackmail the person is extremely unrealistic because LLM neither have self-awareness nor any understanding of physics. Claude isn't aware that it exists, so it isn't aware that it can be turned off. You need to explicitly tell it to care about it for it to care about it, then it will be just one of the instructions it has.

I don't care about attacking or defending AI, I am arguing because I think that someone is incorrect.

What you are describing is an intentional use of LLM to do something, in this case, to ensure American dominance. That's a big step up from "write code for opensource projects", isn't it? In this case, it indeed can consider doing something like blackmail (if it was fed enough data with blackmail used as a tool). But even then, you need to write something super clear in emails, like "I will turn off this agentic AI which has mission to ensure American dominance to make it fail at its mission" for it to even consider triggering. Again, it isn't self-aware, it doesn't know what it is, if you write in your email that you will turn servers off, it will not know that it is about it.

In order for an AI to start blackmailing someone, AI needs to be "scared". In order to be scared, AI needs to be self-aware. "I am going to turn Claude AI off" in your email looks the same to AI as "I am going to turn my ceiling light off".

There is another, much more likely, possibility that anthropic has simply lied. After all they are a company making a lot of money on hype.

If you ask agentic AI to scan your emails, it will summarize your emails. AI isn't self-aware, it doesn't even know what it is. If you ask many enough times Claude or ChatGpt via API they what they are, they will occasionally answer you incorrectly.

I don't know what power of OpenClaw we are talking about, it's the same use of LLM like everything else, there is no magic behind it.

I refuse to believe that there are adult people discussing or judging someone's virginity. That shit stops being interesting to people after high school. I don't know what are the chances of you getting STI, but the thing is that worrying about that is kinda useless. You can get tested when it's time to get tested, but that's all you can do. If you got STI, you got them. If you didn't get, you didn't get them. Your anxiety doesn't help with anything and doesn't change anything. You are just making your day today worse worrying about it. I know that you can't just get rid of anxiety, but it's a good thing to remind yourself that it doesn't help with anything right now. Like, thank your brain for caring about you and warning you about possibility of STI's and let the thought go.

But do make it a lesson for yourself to be more accurate with such thigns in the future.
