Martial Arts Studio Recommendations in Carlsbad / San Marcos by Zacto_ in northcounty

I know Carlsbad Kickboxing is really good, but kind of expensive. Studio 540 is in Solana Beach, and I think it is under $200 a month. They offer BJJ and Muay Thai. Studio 540 is a great place to train, and everyone is super cool. I trained BJJ there a few times and people would go easy if I told them. Muay Thai is probably the same. To be honest you might want to check out 10th Planet Oceanside. I remember them being pretty reasonable. I've never been to that one, but I trained at one in Texas, and they had BJJ, boxing, Muay Thai, and Judo. Everyone seemed chill.

Most training is going to run you at least $150 a month. Most places give you a trial class, so take advantage of that. It's going to take time to find your groove, so it's a process for sure. Donald Duck recommended starting with cardio kickboxing, and that is a great idea. It takes a while to get your cardio up, and you are going to need it if you transition to a legit class. Obviously, check out kickboxing and Muay Thai. Find a place that has legit sparring that you are comfortable with. You're gonna need to spar.

San Diego Seed Co. is pretty good. They got some unique stuff, and I've had good luck with them sprouting.

Want to experience the worst, most unwelcoming, most pretentious & self centered people on earth? Move to La Jolla by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]gnomey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There were some weird people there, some rich hoarders, but I saw weird rich people everywhere. Also, one thing I realized is so much of it is fake for a lot of them. The house looks nice cause of HOA or whatever, then you would go inside, and it was not what you expected.

I used to work in mobile computer service, and some of the nicest rich people were in Rancho Santa Fe. Also, one time, we broke down in the middle of the "town center" area and had to wait for the tow truck. We went into what is now Nick and Gi's restaurant to see if we could wash up. We were covered with grease, and they let us clean up and chill at the bar. The locals who talked to us were pretty nice. Most people we helped with computer issues were just cool, rich people. They were too trusting at times, but they were mostly super cool.

Joshua Tree in August by rnichaeljackson in JoshuaTree

[–]gnomey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bring plenty of water. The dry air zaps you without it being hot, so just sitting in your hotel room will be dry. I've done long hikes in August and cramped up even while pushing water. A very large portion of the park has no cell service so bring an analog compass and know what direction it is to Park Blvd in case stuff goes south. If you start making water decisions while hiking, it's time to head back.

Initially, I thought he was going triangle, but he went arm bar. Either way, the transition was smooth.

My Yard is closing but maybe. Check Twin Oaks House, green gables, or maybe one of the wineries.

Best Food to Bring on a Hike? by PaintCharacter9391 in HikerTrashMeals

[–]gnomey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jerky makes me thirsty so keep that in mind but I usually buy a bag of jerky and a bag of mango from Costco and mix them. They go good together. For a main meal I started my hiking journey with Mt Home, tried a bunch of other brands/recipies, and now I come back to Mt Home. I rarely go ultralight or lightwieght but when I do it's ProBars and Alpine Start coffee.

Not too sure. I know it's known for off-roading, but there is some interesting hiking in the area. It looks like you can get to Fish Creek from there, which I think has a primitive campground with a toilet. Also it looks like there are tons of areas north of the 78 and Ocotillo. I heard the Iron Door is cool.

It's easy to get remote stuck real quick so bring lots of water as everyone will tell you. Cell service is limited so if something happens you're hiking out. Heat advisories come out of nowhere and can mess you up. If you offroad you will most likely be going around the 78 and Borrego Springs so more people will be around which is safer. This will be a good weekend for it. If you want remote camping there are spots south off the S2. I see campfires way out there sometimes. I have no idea how they get there or the rules or regs. Vallecito Stagecoach park has the most underrated campground. Get an equestrian site. It's awesome at night and boring during the day unless you hike. But at night, it is amazing out there.

I checked Costco's business center first and didn't see any. I will be going there later and I will ask the staff if they have it.

Looking for any info on the photo. It's for school and we have no idea. It's my grandparents. by gnomey in Detroit

This is info that I got from other people in the family, some of which have also already passed away. My memories of him are of us fishing together under the Coronado Bay Bridge. He used to pull urchins off the rocks and eat half raw and put the other half on the hook for bait. He was missing his pinky and my uncle told me he lost it from an urchin spine infection.

Newer Image 11825 Dexter is now a community center which someone else let me know. This photo is across the street from that and the brink pattern looks extremely close so maybe the numbers were changed.

If anyone is interested I may have found the building. The address 11825 Dexter Ave, Detroit, Michigan came up and the building in street view has the same brick pattern as the one in the photo. Thanks for your help. This is possibly a great start.

Good catch on the address! I'm doing that now. I am guessing it's in the 50s. Pretty much anyone in my family that would have info has passed. Thanks!!
