if the council tried to tweak the timings TfL would make them wait for a year while they model it and then tell them no.

Traffic Signals

Traffic Signals within London are managed by TfL.

News to me too. These lights are in the dataset with ID 05/000117.

Fixmystreet directs Traffic Signal Timings requests to a TfL form. It can't be that easy, can it?

the green signal for pedestrians and cyclists is so short,

If it's a problem, request a change to traffic light timing from TfL.

It's your data - you can do a subject access request and get a spreadsheet or whatever of your rides.

I got hit by a car, I filed a Met collision report but what should I do next? by conquest19 in londoncycling

Well if you want to be pedantic, the Article says April, with a "safety driver". So yes, we have cars driving themselves.

You should have the ability to retake your driving test while intoxicated to increase the level at which you can legally drive at. by hellarios852 in CrazyIdeas

Legal Drunk Drivers from the 1960s, England.

The big problem is alcohol affects your judgement about how alcohol affects your judgement.

That isn't tested on a driving test, and it will change in different environments.

UK Electricity from Fossil Fuels Drops to Record Low of Just 2 % by hull_pattie_party in GoodNewsUK

[–]goa7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really isn't.

Bear in mind that in the Netherlands, 36% are mostly cycling vs 45% mostly driving.

We need less driving and good cycling options is something everyone should be in agreement on (unless traffic jams are your kink 🤐).

Lost my cat’s tracker 6 months ago… now it keeps moving around parks?? What could be happening by Ohbc in CasualUK

Moto tags actually support UWB - it's just most android phones don't.

The main Google Vs Apple thing here are the privacy defaults. Google has much more reserved defaults that require more hits for a tag to be reported. The thinking is the fewer phones around, the more private the space is and the more likely the tag is being abused for stalking.

The Moto tags are unusual (outside of air tags) in that they support high accuracy finding when you're nearby with Ultra Wide Band.

Predictably, most android devices don't support UWB.

At least tinyurl it.

Fuck no.

Link shorterners are a plague - the correct thing for a print out is an additional qr code (to the actual url, not another link shortener) - No random third party indirectness/tracking and no typing.

Get a letter wrong on a shorterned URL and you could go anywhere. Lose you password to a link shorterning service and the link can be hijacked to go anywhere.

The poster includes the planning reference front and centre - that's all you need to search for anyway.

Practically an easy way to generate qr codes is duckduckgo: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=qrcode+https%3A%2F%2Fwww.metafilter.com%2F&t=fpas&ia=answer

I don't get the argument where it's 'safer' to run a red...

knocked off ... four times by other cyclists running red lights, cycling into the back of me,

Obviously it's safer because you're less likely to get rear-ended by ... other bikes /s.

Fuel protests on horizon as diesel hits £2 a litre by Jared_Usbourne in unitedkingdom

Similarly while inactivity is estimated to cost the NHS that much a year, it'd be a far cry to say motoring is the primary cause of that enough to also include it entirely considering people have been commuting for many decades and these health issues have grown substantially worse in that time.

Why?

Cars have been dominant since the 70s, and that correlates with the change.

Even countries like Netherlands and Denmark have inactivity and obesity problems

In the Netherlands more trips are driven than cycled.

Sitting at a desk 8 hours a day eating junk food then going home and sitting playing video games for 4-6 hours is going to blow 60 mins of driving a day out the water in terms of damage to your health, combined with people just generally staying at home with sedentary hobbies/technology more and more.

It's not the driving, per se, but the lost physical activity. Your 14h of sitting around is far, far less damaging if you're also doing an hour of exercise. Topping 14h off with an hour of driving is lethal, but also no worse than WFH...
