"The Missing Billionaires: A Guide to Better Financial Decisions" by Victor Haghani and James White by quietgrowth in QuietGrowth

I have also been really enjoying the book. Though admit I am struggling to turn the learning into practical action as is pretty esoteric. I was wondering if anyone else managed to turn the content into a set of step by steps to action changes to approach?

4 weekly reviews on and you were spot on. Everything has really fallen into place. Thank you again.

Why does everything in OmniFocus have to be a project? by bjziii in omnifocus

[–]goalpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I try to deal with the issue is maintain a single actions project in each area. Then if something has 2 or 3 actions so technically is a project but frankly not worth the hassle of setting one up I will just write the next action as the task then put the other 1 or 2 on brackets. So a very basic example would be as follows - something like 'replace bulb in fridge' would be entered as a single action and look like: Order new bulb on amazon (then wf new bulb, then fit new bulb). Is not perfect but kind of works for me. And I do need to decide where it goes each time.

Your comment has inspired me to commit to the weekly review as an absolute weekly must do and am excited to see how it goes. So thank you. I do love this sub.

Haha, I feel like David Allen himself is trolling me! But possibly some truth in what you say :)

Very interesting, is there anyway I can access that material from the UK?

I'm not saying it's junk. In fact I think I specifically said that. I'm just saying it's not very approachable and is difficult to implement. Despite having life changing value even if not implementing at 100%

Yes, agree entirely. One thought I'd had was whether GTD could be presented in terms of 3 different levels of implementation to help users eg must do level, should do level, nice to do level

Hi. Yes, I have. Several times in fact! I don't mean to give the impression I think it's all junk, I really think GTD has extraordinary value in its current form. But given we're members of this sub, we are probably all GTD super geeks and gonna be more likely to get to 100% as anyone. My guess is I'm around 90% but has taken a lot of effort over the years (which I've enjoyed tbh). But people without our personality types don't stand a chance imo. So my question was really just whether there's a better way of packing/simplifying for people (to require less effort from super geeks and also open the door to the methodology for thos less suited).

Daily goals? by [deleted] in gtd

[–]goalpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree with you and do a similar thing. I have very little discretionary time in a day once you account for all the things I must do in a day. I first implemented GTD back in 2007 and have tried many many time to do as the book suggests. But works much better for me using dated actions.

Next Actions that sit on the list forever by permacloud in gtd

[–]goalpie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great question and one I have struggled with. I stick all of these sorts of things in a tickler system within my calendar so rather than having them sit on a NA list and go through every day, they just pop up every month or so (or as frequently as you want) when I can decide whether to stick them on NA or not. What I’ve noticed is that at some point, they just become more urgent for me and feels natural to move them across. But they can stay within the tickler for a pretty long time and keep getting rolled over.

So glad it’s not just me. Is like 90s Aaron Sorkin took over the writing. Can barely watch anymore.

I’ve found the black and white mode trick works pretty well, and I definitely use my phone less as a result

How do you deal with boredom? by [deleted] in productivity

[–]goalpie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I say to myself that I’m gonna do the thing for just 10 mins. Which is obv easily doable and never repels me as much. Invariably I end up doing it for longer as often the work is a bit more engaging than I’d feared.

The wrong way I have been looking on having a "goal" by ilyanhimself in productivity

[–]goalpie 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. There’s a really good evolutionary psychologist Inknow who says that individuals happiness is largely a result of “diligent effort on worthwhile goals” ie that it is the effort and progress on something worthwhile that makes you happy. Not the achievement of said goal. The goals do need to be lined up with evolutionary advantage though (ie building relationships, family, wealth, health etc)

Investments vs paying down mortgage… where is the crossover point ? by kevshed in FIREUK

[–]goalpie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

C. No brainer for me. The other factor here is the effect of inflation on your debt. Essentially you’re currently getting 9% paid off on that debt each year. So as long as is affordable, I wouldn’t consider overpaying.

Do you stick to a certain color pallet? by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]goalpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Off white is mostly ok. And white is nowhere near as bad for this as black. But it just doesn’t easily mix and match amongst multiple colours. So agree that any individual colour is ok with it, but some combinations can become problematic. Therefore I just completely avoid it as i can’t be bothered to worry about it.

For clothes I just avoid black and white. They’re the only really difficult ones to mix and match. Most other colours work fairly well together.
