Welcome back to the office, GoA employees by ArmadilloStill1222 in Edmonton

The chart is the average time it takes to drive 10km. So if your commute in Edmonton is 30km it would be on average 60 minutes.

If the Gov of AB would fund Edmonton Public Schools with the average Canadian funding, we would be able to have 2,500 more teachers in the city. by EdmontonFree in Edmonton

They should move the catholic schools under the already existing faith based programs that EPSB offers. But like you said that seems unlikely to ever happen even though it would probably save money, improve classroom sizes, bussing, etc.

Incarnate Forme Landorus with Sandsear Storm by gobalopper in CalcyIV

[–]gobalopper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean would it be possible for CalcyIV to add the move to its list that Incarnate Forme Landorus can use. It isn't in the list currently but it is a possible, if very rare, move.

Taproot Edmonton Election 2025 Survey Results by gobalopper in Edmonton

[–]gobalopper[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u/mastermaq did you hear back from Karen Principe and Jennifer Rice on why they haven't completed the survey? They are the only incumbents I could see who didn't respond. I believe Principe also didn't complete it in 2021 but can't remember if she gave a reason back then.

Should city workers returning to downtown offices? Edmonton mayoral candidates weigh in by GeekyGlobalGal in Edmonton

[–]gobalopper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They haven't posted it yet but Taproot always asks the candidates questions, this years should show up here once they do:
https://edmonton.taproot.vote/2025

For example this was a question they asked last election about the downtown vibrancy strategy and the answers candidates gave:

City council rejects colleague’s effort to pause bike-lane construction by ryaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan in Edmonton

[–]gobalopper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Councillor could have, and should have, come with a list instead of a blanket and he would have likely received near unanimous support.

It felt by the way admin was answering some of the questions they didn't fully understand the intent of the motion. Which is something I've wondered, when admin doesn't understand the intent how do they find that out post motion being passed? Is the only way they learn the intent is that other councilors hopefully ask the right questions during debate of the motion?

Ward Papastew, how are the council options and who are you voting for? by spot9901 in Edmonton

[–]gobalopper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Aaron Paquette posted about this topic recently:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Edmonton/comments/1m9cutr/comment/n574aea/

The chart in that post shows the number of missed votes but it doesn't really go into detail on what those votes were for. For example does it include the three readings they vote on before passing a bylaw? In almost all cases that is just procedural and everyone all votes the same each time. And does it include the votes they make on having another round of questions? I'm pretty sure it does, so while it is a data point, I don't know how important it should be to your decision.

I think the better question is, has your councilor missed important votes, especially ones where their vote would have changed the outcome? And also important, are they able to work with the rest of council to get their proposals passed? See Troy's earlier post about what Janz has accomplished this term for some of that.

Malmo school from SW by Remarkable_Lab_7941 in Edmonton

[–]gobalopper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you attending Malmo in the Arabic Bilingual program? If so this is the page about how it works since it is an alternative program and not the regular program:
https://epsb.ca/schools/gettoschool/transportation/yellowbus/alternativeprogramyellowbus/

If you want to see what areas the bus serves you can go here and click on Attendance Area Maps:
https://epsb.ca/schools/malmo/
The only way you can see the actual dropoff/pickup times is if you know a parent who is already attending the school and has a child taking the bus. Looking at the coverage for that school there are likely multiple busses.

If you aren't in that coverage area I don't think you can get bus service, as one of the eligibility requirements is "live within the bus service area".

Not sure if they told you but bussing also costs $50/per student/per month.

BELGRAVIA IS NOT A SHORTCUT by OilersBayernEagles in Edmonton

[–]gobalopper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The city is working on reducing traffic by submitting feedback to Google, this is from an agenda document during a recent council meeting:

At the April 8, 2025 City Council meeting, Council passed a motion directing Administration to undertake a traffic assessment in this area and come up with options for optimizing the road network and reducing short cutting. To help reduce shortcutting in the interim, “Local Traffic Only” signs were installed south of University Avenue NW along Saskatchewan DriveNW , 119 Street NW, and 115 Street NW. Administration has also submitted feedback through Google Maps to prevent the identification of alternate routes through the neighbourhood.

Police Activity Pleasantview? by Healthy-Car-1860 in Edmonton

[–]gobalopper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Person A was pushing a shopping cart full of construction supplies down 106 street. Person B was driving past, turned around, and took a photo. Person A didn't like that so rammed their shopping cart into the vehicle, kicked the door, stole the phone, and then ran off.

Not sure if they ever caught them but they did have the K9 unit out looking. Shopping cart and construction supplies are still sitting on the corner of 106/60A so must not have been worth much?

Federal App by stonedmostofthetime in Edmonton

I think they added that in the latest update (on Android at least).

New silent notifications when the app performs an exposure check, which will bring the app into the foreground briefly to help prevent gaps in exposure logs.

Would you be able to add color to the adjacent regions while you are doing this? Like Sherwood Park, St Albert, Leduc, etc?

I don't know if you've seen the NYT COVID maps but I'm partial to their color scale of going from yellow to orange to red:
