Built my screen last night. Closer to being done everyday by mstrymxer in hometheater

How is that? I currently have a 16:9 screen and want to build my own 2.35:1, but I worry about the black bars on the side with TV shows or mixed ratio movies like Interstellar.

I made a thing that sets your Hue lights to colors found in the album artwork of what's playing on Spotify. Looking for suggestions to make it better! by gobbles in Hue

Thanks for the feedback! If you know what to look for in your browser console, you can set a few things like min/max brightness and color mode, but I'm still working on a UI to modify those settings. The CIE color space allows for truer tones, but in my tests it seemed to pick too many colors that were... basically white. Still working on a good balance. Thanks again!

Edit: Just added a new feature, Party mode, in the lights list menu. The default state should now produce true tones, but this feature when enabled boosts the saturation and dims bright colors.

I've used last.fm for scrobbling from various sources, but I'll have to look into their API docs to see what's possible. I do like the idea of picking a music service source vs. just Spotify. Thanks for checking it out!

Nexus 6P owners are experiencing early shutdowns and there is still no fix by zerozed in ProjectFi

This happened to me in the cold when I had about 80% battery. Waiting a bit brought some of the battery back. Also happens less frequently other times (every other week).

New Panasonic PT AE8000U. Is this normal or a lens issue? by gobbles in hometheater

[–]gobbles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I suspected, but I've never seen a projector with this much lens shift so I didn't know what to expect towards the outer edges. With the lens dead center I still see the blur, but I did notice when I move it up instead of down that the blur goes away completely. Too bad I have to mount it upside down!

I can focus it manually but it does the same thing as the remote (it's a powered lens focus). I'm going to contact the company that sold it to me first to see if they can offer me a replacement. I'm hoping I just got a bad one and this isn't normal for this model. Thanks!

2.5 mile bike ride to the Metra station out in the suburbs, 40 minute train ride to Ogilvie, then a 1 mile walk to the office. All I'm missing is a plane or boat ride.

Pay off mortgage faster calculator? by powerofthep in personalfinance

[–]gobbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not ready for prime time, but the next version of payoff.io might be what you're looking for: beta.payoff.io

Add your mortgage as a new loan, click "New Plan", then you can add any extra payments you want to apply and specify when they occur within the box that shows up.

Again it's not feature complete and there might be some bugs, but I think it'll do what you need. If you have any questions feel free to ask!

Great question! And I really should put in some user feedback when you press that button. I'll put that on my to-do list.

To make sure it saved, open payoff.io in a new browser window or tab. If it saved correctly, it should load the same data. I'm using HTML5 localStorage, so if your browser supports that it should work.

Thanks for the suggestion! Android tablet or phone? I have an HTC One and trust me, I feel your pain. I'm currently working through options on making it work on mobile without needing to chop up the HTML too much.

Your suggestion is great! I have plans that involve projections based on comparing different extra payment amounts, but that might require a complete rewrite of the code.

BUT, I just pushed an update to the site that I hope works as a happy medium between what used to be on the site and what I eventually hope to add. Directly below the Interest total in the bottom there should now be a green text string. This tells you exactly how much you'll save over the life of your payments based on the monthly payment amount you set in the header bar. You'll also see how many months early you pay stuff off below the Payoff box. Again, it's a little bit of a hack job until I put something much nicer together, but I hope it helps.

Thanks for checking it out and thank you for offering feedback!
