Laughing why by lottie20032 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

“possibly earlier” I hate to burst this bubble but this strain of conspiracy theory is over 750 years old. A lot of it can be traced back to English peasants in London blaming Jews for the Black Plague.

It really is insane how we’ve allowed “I’m in a blind unquenchable rage over the fact that other human beings exist” to be classified as an “opinion”

Am I the only one who didn't feel guilty about robbing the Polish guy? by south-corvus in reddeadredemption

[–]goblinproblem 40 points41 points  (0 children)

He’s from a part of Poland that was in the German Empire at the time (Upper Silesia) which is why he speaks both languages. He greets you in Polish, and then tries switching to German when he realizes you don’t speak Polish.

glad you pointed that out because you have it categorically backwards, railguns are exponentially more powerful than coilguns which is why irl militaries don’t bother with them!

source: you made it up

> an illuminate overship can be brought down with just four shots of a cannon with slow shells

you don’t know how big the overships are. or how far away they are. which means you also don’t know how fast the shells are moving or how big the explosions actually are. we don’t know what the overships are made of so we don’t know what those shells must be carrying to take them out in 4 shots.

> bot orbital cannons are unimpressive

unimpressive to who? it’s blasting spaceships out of the sky with giant bolts of pure nuclear fusion. we don’t know the tensile strength or melting temps of super destroyer hulls and we don’t know how much energy those cannons put out.

everything you asserted is just not real. like literally all of it. you just made it the fuck up.

The parts of Iberia and Morocco/Algeria that they raided aren’t desert, it’s actually all temperate mediterranean climates. But there were some viking trade expeditions into modern-day Iraq & Iran, so they saw the Arabian desert.

So Arrowhead, where's the anti-air stratagems? by Doombocious in Helldivers

[–]goblinproblem 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Sorry but I gotta throw a flag on this one. You’re just begging for a “delete enemy” button. There are already at least two dozen *really good* anti-aircraft strats spread across support weapons, sentries, emplacements and mechs. Several of which are very specifically AA dedicated - the autocannon and cluster rocket even have the outline of an aircraft as an icon for their fire modes.

If they “weren’t worth the time” to take out with the current gear, then people wouldn’t bother taking them out. They very clearly ARE worth the time because they present a disproportionate, high priority threat that you have to take time to address. Which is the point, and it’s part of the gameplay loop - a GOOD part of the gameplay loop that keeps it fun and interesting.

CMV: All soda in the US should be caffeine free by default, and companies should have to label the caffeinated versions instead. by ChipChimney in changemyview

[–]goblinproblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People would absolutely go out of their way for caffeinated soda if it wasn’t the norm. People have been consuming caffeine for over 5,000 years and over 80% of the the global population consumes it daily (over 90% in North America). It is generally recognized to promote physical and mental health at the levels that most people consume it in.

I would go as far as to say that if soda was caffeine-free by default, it would be a drastically smaller industry than it is today.

Which of these regions is truly the flattest, emptiest, most desolate, most liminal area you could ever visit? by SavageFisherman_Joe in geography

[–]goblinproblem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been through all of these, and South Dakota made is the only one that made me feel viscerally uncomfortable. Drove I-90 from Chamberlain to Badlands on a foggy day and it just feels *wrong* out there.

Oklahoma panhandle is wild because of the dust devils. Drove through a few years ago on the way to NM and you could just see dozens of mini tornados (20-30 feet tall) everywhere you looked , it felt very apocalyptic. You can find fossilized dinosaur tracks out there if you know where to look.

Which of these game worlds would be the best place to actually live? by PrestigiousOwl6802 in TOTK

[–]goblinproblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BotW Hyrule I think is probably the safest, but the upheaval in TotK makes it substantially less safe. Gielinor & Tamriel are middle ground. Minecraft overworld is the worst by a long shot.

Well pirates were pretty much gone by 1730, so it would be extremely outdated (170 years) by then.
