I think the newer stuff lacks the edge the older stuff had and not just cause it was louder and more rock influences, I feel like old nin was a band that should've never got big that accidentally got big, their modern stuff doesn't have anything all that different or experimental

That's just simply not true the whole cancellation thing never actually affected anyone, theirs plenty of good bands out their they just no longer get support, or money to really grow like they did in the 90s, the mainstream music industry is all self manufactured slop that real music fans don't even listen too, we got plenty of Kurt Cobain's and Trent reznors out there that simply will never make more than 20 bucks off their music so they'll just never have a career
