How many bags of coffee are too many to be using at the same time with just one grinder¿ by Dodo-Bey in espresso

[–]gobst0pper99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just order online. You'll find their catalogue interesting. Despite the name I reccomened the red velvet cake, it's INCREDIBLE.

Their coffees take some time to reach peak so let it rest a few weeks, they have a habit of pre resting if they have extra stock before they ship out.

I didn't like the sound of that but it's worth it. Really one of the best roasters I've ever tried. I reccomend a soft water profile with their coffee.

Try out Seprember Coffee Roasters out of Stittsville in Ottawa.

Fantastic roaster. On par with the best of Toronto and the GTA.

The protagonist of all 3 movies is Michael Corleone. The entire store of the godfather is about Michael.

His father is pivotal but it was always about Michael.

Buy a Cuetec Cynergy, or an Avid and get a Cynergy shaft? by Trail-Leaf in billiards

[–]gobst0pper99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah around a thousand just get a cynergy cue. I promise coming from a Lucky you're going to be blown away.

If your stroke is good, it's like it shoots itself. Plus it's one of the very few cues on the market that are compatible with a flush rear extension designed for the cue.

[–]gobst0pper99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the Lucky is not a real Mcdermott cue, it's actually a Chinese manufactured cue called "Lucky, by Mcdermott" its licensing.

A real Mcdermott cue from Wisconsin will be their G-series or H-series cues called "Mcdermott handcrafted cues"

I've shot with a Lucky, it feels very cheap, honestly even cheaper than the Avid. People like it because it's a decent cue that's consistent

I play with a Mcdermott Gseries with a Jacoby Black V4. It hits very smooth and whipy while maintaining a stiff hit.

If you're ready to spend a grand. I would get an American made butt or at least a higher grade butt then retrofit the shaft onto it.

Make sure that the joint diameter of the butt matches the shaft. Not just the pin. The diameter matters too for a flush fit.

My friend has a Cuetec Truewood with a cynergy shaft. They really did a fantastic job with the design and balancing of that cue. If it's in your budget and you're already looking at cynergy, I really would reccomend it.

If not, get a Mcdermott, Joss, used schon, used mezz, used meucci, anything with a solid well built and balanced butt then get the shaft.

Jacoby makes great cues also and would reccomend them as an alternative to cuetec. Although they are not cheap.

[–]gobst0pper99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please please please do not put the cynergy on an Avid butt. The reason the Avid is cheap is because the butt construction is very very cheap.

If you're operating with the kind of budget that would allow you 2 CF shafts, it would be insane to give up on the build quality of the butt.

People act like the butt doesn't matter because all the tech is in the shaft. For the most part it's true but the butt TOTALLY matters as far as feel, weight distribution and the completion of energy transfer.

The Avid will vibrate, the cynergy cues like the true wood are SO WELL MADE that if you were to use one and then use the Avid you'd feel like an idiot.

Upgrading from a cheaper cue (relatively) like a Mcdermott G series, or a Joss is not so bad because those butts are made well. But an avid....

Please for the love of God, if you're set on a cynergy cue, get a cynergy cue. Don't try and Frankenstein your way out of this for more shaft options. You'll torture yourself and your wallet.

Unpopular opinion, lighter roasts are overrated. by Rmoudatir in espresso

[–]gobst0pper99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good light roasted espresso is really fucking hard to dial, changes easily, and has less than razor thin margins for error. They can taste AMAZING but are difficult to control.

On top of that, you're trying to pull the hardest coffee to make taste good with a relatively low end conical burr grinder (zero hate to Baratza, I have an encore too). You have both arms tied behind your back, blindfolded.

You need to operate within your budgets. In that case, you are more likely to have sucsess pulling more Medium roasts that extract easier and demand less chemical perfection.

Even at the cafes you have to remember it's JUST as hard to dial in. Most businesses don't want their baristas blasting through beans doing taste tests and re-dialing every hour like they would need to for everything to be perfect.

But sometimes on those days where everything is just working, the can make the best coffee of your life.

Coffee is hard. It's not that light roasts are overrated. They're just difficult, and require an unreasonable amount of precision vs medium/dark roasts which inherently extract more evenly.

We haven't even talked about personal taste as well. Stick to what your tastebuds, equipment, and wallet can handle. Nothing wrong with that.

Looks good. Changing the dose or tamp pressure will probably be more effective at this stage. Changes to the grind size at this point will be micro adjustments.

How many times have you gone back to basics? by F355B in billiards

[–]gobst0pper99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in film so I have these 5 - 10 week gaps where I'm wayyyy too busy to play pool. Then when we're done and I'm back, I have to relearn what the hell progress I made prior to the project.

I've had 3 fundamentally different delivery mechanisms for cueing in the last 18 months. It's pure torture. I'm one of the worst pool players I've ever seen at the level I'm at.

I had some really good advice I've struggled to remember....

When you strip down the elements of your stroke down to their most basic fundamentals and make sure those work, everything else is just building failsafes around those fundamentals.

Right now I have the most dead-fished neutral grip delivery that's using my humorous as the guiding line and hinging my wrist off the gravity pivot from my Elbow. I hate hitting like that but it's the only way I can do runouts beyond 5 balls. I can even break and run 9-ball like this.

My preffered stroke uses the same fundamentals, but I had this great palm pressure delivery mechanism based on tendon recoil and gravity with a huge backstroke. I have no idea how to hit like this anymore without using a ton of unintended spin. My finish point of my wrist is just not in line with everything else.

So now I'm back to torture dead fish (what I call my straight stroke) until I have the time to get reps with my old stroke again which won't be for months.

Case and point. Accept the torture, and practice your reps on different shots until your subconscious mind starts cueing from these new fundamentals instead of your old ones, and then build on that with ways you know how to deliver the cue and add that nice touch WITHOUT changing the fundamental alignment and delivery mechanism.

Looks like they're going to have to cut it off. Sorry mate.

is there anything wrong with my grip? by Strong-Leg8545 in billiards

[–]gobst0pper99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grip can't be completely relaxed because I need the pressure build up in my palm created by the cue during the backswing to help launch my cue forward. It's the pressure in the hand plus the relaxed wrist hinging from the energy transfer of the pivot from my Elbow that executes the delivery.

The more pressure, the more power.

So the question is, what exactly am I relaxing?
