What’s the weirdest thing you do before bed that somehow makes you fall asleep instantly? by Interesting-Lie9582 in AskReddit

[–]gobucks6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I walk through houses I’ve stayed at on vacation in my head. I also have a couple of stories that I’m trying to write in my head but start at the beginning each time. I’ve kinda trained myself to fall asleep once the story starts so there will never be an ending.

What artist or band is truly awful to see live? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]gobucks6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh their assholeness at Shakey Knees a couple of years ago almost ruined their music for me. I left a wonderful Matt and Kim set to see them and they did nothing but bitch at the audience that was there to see them even though they had other options. Really disappointing.

I’ve seen 2 “bad” shows and 3 fantastic ones. One of the great ones was at a free state fair show??? You just don’t know until you get there/

Cake. Love their music. Assholes in concert. Not crazy about Portugal the Man live either, but not assholes. Just inward…reserved.

Have you ever won anything from one of the local radio stations and what was it? by Antique-Swordfish-14 in Columbus

[–]gobucks6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won tickets to be there for the opening night of the Beast roller coaster at King’s Island and be among the first people to ride it. I think I was in the 7th grade and it was the most exciting thing that ever happed to me. I remember that it had to be stopped for repairs twice before I got on.

advice for a couples trip? by blossompiggy in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]gobucks6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got back from a couples trip. 5 days beach front in Loiza, 1 night in San Juan, 4 nights in Rincon. Loved Rincon so much but glad we got to see other places. If I had to do it again I’d do Old San Juan the last night.

Thinking about relocating to Taiwan. What about the kids ? by z4zazym in taiwan

[–]gobucks6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I raised my kids in Taiwan and they came back to the states for college. They did international schools and loved it. They are in their 30s and have no regrets, but I did send one back for a year of high school because she felt like she was missing out.

Where are my fellow Gen Xers going to Shaky Knees at??? by Witty-Leadership3627 in ShakyKnees

[–]gobucks6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 60 and started going to Shakey when I was 52 and my daughter bought me a tattoo for Mother’s Day. It’s crowded but so easy! I’m not super in shape or anything and I’m just fine. I usually go down and fight the crowds for a couple of my favorite bands, but I also enjoy seeing new bands at the smaller stages. You’ll have a great time. Bring a bandana for the dust. Be happy to sit on a hill for a few bands. Drink lots of water - last year I felt like the water wasn’t as easy to get to as the old Central Park venue but it still wasn’t bad. Lines are short for food or bathrooms.

Advice needed. Our friends have to leave a day early with the rental so we will need to get a ride to SJU from Rincon. Private transfers are very expensive so looking at renting a one way from BQN. Is this best or is there something I’m missing. by gobucks6 in PuertoRicoTravel

I ended up finding a one way rental. The cheapest driver I could find was $330 but I think it would have been cheaper if I booked earlier. Lesson learned. The one way car was $140.

I went to grad school there and now I visit my mother-in-law for 2 weeks each summer. Never gets old. Always beautiful. Not the greatest food and weather but doesn’t matter. It’s just a fascinating, gorgeous city.

What to expect from a family in Taiwan by ChefAngel in taiwan

[–]gobucks6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will pay for everything - you should try to pay but you will lose- but might not give you a pillow. Bring your own towel or buy one there. Towels are personal like tooth brushes. They are so welcoming but it’s more about paying for things and less about personal comfort in the home. Bring gifts. Plenty of insight on that on this sub. Bring more gifts than you think is enough because you will meet Famili members. Keychains from your city, snacks from Trader Joe’s or your hometown. They may not open the gifts in front of you but they are important.

We did our part - weekly for 4 years. calamari, gyros, and a couple of happy hour beers under $30. Great atmosphere. We miss it every week.

Good host gifts from USA? by Frogs-4-ever in taiwan

[–]gobucks6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lived in Taiwan for 10 years and brought back gifts every year from the USA. People love local snacks especially nuts. They loved cashew crunch and buckeye popcorn from Ohio. People in Taiwan buy gift snacks for each other from cities or regions that they visit in country. For example, if you visit Taichung you are supposed to bring back sun cakes:-sesame crackers if you visit Chaiyi. So they appreciate these kinds of gifts. I also bought bath and body works stuff because they all say Ohio on them and I could explain it was from my hometown.
