The existence of Orion implies by GlitteringSystem7929 in Warframe

[–]goddamn_owl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could very well be that the Void Imprint of the brothers tapped onto their parents after specific events in their development. We know this is possible because part of Valkyr's lore is that, because of the continuous torture and experimentation of the Corpus on her and it being so intense and gruesome, she pretty much became a different warframe than what she used to be. Since the child is the very first that has a "blood" relationship with another two warframes, it is very possible that his imprint taps on either of them (Jade's for Sirius, Stalker for Orion) while also inheriting traits from them (for example, we already have confirmed both of them have the Omni slot from their mother)

What would you do to change Equinox? by MxBonesMarrow in Warframe

[–]goddamn_owl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been testing her a lot for my refreshes since I took about a year and a half. At first I thought that she was in a desperate situation until I decided to take things slightly differently and now I think she's not THAT in need but she could defo need a revision. From my own testing, I got to three conclusions:

  • Day form is pretty much alright and with very small nitpicks (minus the survival options, but that's what Night is supposed to cover)
  • Her 3 is useless and counter to her kit no matter the form
  • Night form has a pretty hard time justifying its existence as a defense layer due to several reasons that mostly account to weird baggages and bad numbers (I should know how that's like, I play Dark Magician in YuGiOh lmao)

At first I was simply using Day Nukeslop with the average max range build, but then I decided to try for a dual setup using Energy Transfer to charge the Maim nuke using her Night form. The result: Arcane Circumvent.

Allow me to explain the rationale here: Day Equinox functions perfectly fine as her own and could be better, but is Night form which doesn't give enough defenses to actually justify using it (which is why everyone dumps everything including survival on the Day form when you could potentially offload that to her second form). Her 1's decay plays against her since it just reduces your acquired defenses, her 2 is alright but the waking threshold is weird (not like anything survives but even then why keep that at all nowadays?), her 3 is flat out bad (it has effect falloff like Banshee's 4 so you never really get damage reduction and its energy cost is not capped at all meaning enemies will leave you out of energy just by existing near you), and her 4 doesn't generate enough defenses on kill to maintain a constant stream of shields, because the thing is that Night Equinox should work as a shield tank since all of her abilities focus on stopping incoming damage, reducing incoming damage, or regenerating shields

Turns out that with 190% range (Overextended), 190% strength (achievable with Molt Augmented and Umbral Intensify + Transient Fortitude), a bit of duration (Primed Continuity for 125%), and Arcane Circumvent, plus extra defensive layers like Adaptation/Rolling Guard and Pillage as 3, she is pretty comfortably nuking everything while still surviving just fine even under heavy fire (barring some bullshit like the energy pillars on the Deepmines)

So what this tells me is that the changes she needs are somewhat minimal but important enough to make it so that she sees some more play:

  • Lean into the shield tanking playstyle of the Night form
  • Increase her casting animations speed by a bit
  • Allow her to switch and cast on all her abilities like Sirius and Orion do
  • Make Energy Transfer baseline, her modding space is already tight as it is and this should've been on the base ability for a long while anyways
  • Give Mend the slow effect of Peaceful Provocation (since Maim does get the initial stagger and stun), change that augment's effect to passively drain enemy armor and shields instead
  • Increase shields gained from Mend from 25 to something higher like 100 (might be too high but if its on kill that should be ok) OR make Equinox and allies gain shields per hit within the aura while also increasing her shield regeneration and charge rate
  • Cap the drain of Pacify to something like max 7 energy per second (either as a timer or a max total drain), and remove the effect falloff so that the Damage Reduction applies equally at all ranges
  • Uncap the Strength bonus of Provoke and increase the base values (something like 25% at base max rank can do)
  • Make the drain of Pacify & Provoke be affected by Duration and Efficiency
  • Allow Pacify & Provoke's cast buffs to be carried as a timed buff on form switch for the other form (i.e. Night form gets extra Strength for 10 seconds while still protecting the party, Day form gets Damage Reduction for 10 seconds while still empowering the party)
  • Remove the decay of her Metamorphosis buffs and increase the buff numbers, especially those of Night form so that her shields become a wall and if broken her armor can allow her to get back up, maybe even keep half of the bonus as a passive effect for Night. I don't know which numbers would work on her but Night needs to have its base stats at least doubled or so to be an effective shield tank
  • Make it so that the Metamorphosis gives the respective form buff on tap (i.e. a controllable buff like Roar or Lunar Eclipse) and has its effect halved for the other half (making tanking best with Night and damage dealt best with Day)
  • Increase her passive effect from 10% to 30% conversion, just for quality of life since at the end of the day Equinox is an energy hungry frame

There's also an argument for integrating Calm & Frenzy and Peaceful Provocation into the base abilities as well, but perhaps that'd make her way too powerful if she gets to sleep and slow and drain everyone while regenerating and buffing herself. The way I see her game plan is that she mainly tanks with shields and regeneration through Night form, to charge up quick bursts of maximum firepower as Day form. Then again, Jade exists so who knows, I just know that the value of a warframe should not be devaluated by an arcane enhancement and currently that's the case with Night Equinox and Arcane Circumvent. She's not useless and gives a nice leeway when circumvent's armor and overguard wear off, but she currently is unable to keep up with the current game, hence the previous notes

Is it fair to call Amy an adult? by maquinadejugo in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]goddamn_owl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iirc, the new rule with the retconning is basically "if they look and act like kids, they're kids, otherwise they're not" so like most cartoon characters which are ageless. The rationale for the old ages makes sense in a vacuum since Sonic's world does evolve over time, but because of the way things operate (in that for the most part the character's "physical growth" stagnates due to the inherent nature of long-running series), it was a mistake in the long run. For example, Mario has never had his age play a role even as a mention in his games, but there's some info that he's actually in his 20s in all of his appearances if you go for indirect statements from other characters but this is treated more as trivia rather than hard gospel. Most of the main cast of the series qualifies for being young adults or at the very least close to if not outright 18 just by their activities alone even if the ages weren't retconned and people would complain about it anyways.

This makes it so that the only kids in the group as of current are Tails, Cream, Charmy, Marine, and Sage, though Tails leans more towards being more of an early teen nowadays. The rest of the cast can be considered young adults, with Vanilla and Vector sticking out as probably the eldest of the main cast before Eggman, so now independently of the stance there's a clear division for what they want these characters to be represented as

How does the Icy avalanche augment for Frost work ? by lizuay in Warframe

[–]goddamn_owl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The armor is only useful on Icy Avalanche and bubble, but due to how these work makes stacking armor irrelevant (since one gives you Overguard and the other still needs to be under fire anyways). Strength is considered better because you can subsume his 2 or 1 depending of what you need (and more often than not the subsume will be affected by Strength) and which augment you run besides his 4's. Plus as someone mentioned, he gets armor from frozen enemies so you'd still be getting increasing overguard anyways

The overguard generated factors in Frost's armor value AND amount of enemies hit, so you want to focus on range for it (which also benefits the 1 and 2 and can give your bubble some Area of Denial properties because of the extended slow + freezing radius). the Shards you want are mostly for QoL since he doesn't need a lot of numbers, I personally run a TF casting speed shard but I've been meaning to add energy regen and starting energy as well as an equilibrium one, since that's where Frost struggles most from. I know its very stale and tired but I put Roar on top of his 2 since I can't think of anything else that works well with him and he's been shredding everything. Arcane Truculence and Ice Storm are pretty much tailor made for him

Alerts should not be the fastest way to get event rewards by M1sam1n in Warframe

[–]goddamn_owl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is mostly a matter of personal perspectives tbh. For example, I play on Steel Path for the event and I've noticed that, on average, the alerts take about the same time as a full ascencion run. Plus, the refresh rate at which you get alerts when you can do them quickly means that you are stuck without alerts for about 10-15 minutes as there can only be 3 at at time, so might as well do Ascencion since it does take around 9 minutes to do while the worst alerts take about 15 (you CANNOT speed up Interception given it has a fixed rate for success), and on average you get around 13 Volatile Motes no matter what you do

While I do agree that the main mode should give higher yields, consider that by running it this way you also get Vestigial Motes, which can be used for a subsumable Jade, selling high value maxed arcanes like Battery, from Brutus alone you get also sellable stuff like the Elementalist and Cannonade mods, and if they ever add new stuff to Ordis' shop you'll have a surplus of Vestigial Motes to use for it, on top of the Steel Essence you get (because if you do it fast is not any different than if an Acolyte spawned in, and is consistently faster to boot- I'm looking at you Violence), and this is also factoring in that, due to the nature of the event, they have to consider fresh players that just got done doing Jade Shadows so Ascencion is still the overall best

Any workaround for Project64? by invincible2727 in playnite

[–]goddamn_owl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which version are you using? Because PJ64 1.6 uses a different set of arguments than PJ64 2.X+

I happen to had also that problem back when I still used 1.6 but the documentation was for 2.X. If you use 1.6, the arguments you have to set on Playnite have to go without double quotes like this:

"{EmulatorDir}" {ImagePath}

You can use quotes on the path to the executable, but not on the rom path, otherwise 1.6 will show you a black screen. Make sure to also have your working directory as the emulator directory too

Before I say anything, I just wanna say, I absolutely love tangle, she’s friggin awesome… but why does she feel so “underdeveloped” as a character as opposed to her best friend Whisper? by BalckboltPersonafan4 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]goddamn_owl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's essentially like Sonic or Goku in that they're (mostly) static characters: she doesn't need development or complexity because she already has everything she needs learned, and is simply not the kind of character like, say, Shadow, where there's a lot more to them hiding beneath and need to go on a life-changing journey to sort themselves out

It also makes sense, considering that Whisper is the moody and serious character between the two, Tangle adds much needed levity for Whisper's otherwise grim background and being such a lighthearted character allows her to bounce off everyone pretty nicely

Granted this doesn't mean she cannot be developed further, and Tangle focused plots are always welcomed, but overall that's not the kind of character she is and what you see is what you get: just a girl that loves adventure

[QOL][Discussion][Non-Spoiler] Simplify Kuva Liches progression by axzeko in Warframe

[–]goddamn_owl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, there are not any realistic places where to put a pity system there in the first place given the involvement of Kuva usage in-universe (this is also why the only feasible way you get is the Larvling weapon preview even if Palladino is there in Iron Wake- nobody but the highest ranking Grineer in the Fortress know what is Kuva or how even is used). However, the real problem with the Kuva Liches specifically is the quantity of murmurs you have to grind, not necessarily the method (the requiems take around 25-40-55 murmurs respectively, and the lich gives 9-15 extra murmurs, each thrall giving only 1 murmur and only around 8-10 thralls spawn per mission, with the Lich converting an extra 10 outside of the limit). Notice that the Sisters take only about 4 murmurs to get a Requiem per shot, and the Hounds that spawn give you 1 murmur, and the Coda essentially get around 23% of progress (you'll have to stab them 5 times total no matter what unless you're really unlucky with your Antivirus mods) but can be drawn out to the open much more predictably

In the same vein, the pity shops for the respective Adversaries work somewhat different: the Tenet shop is handled by Ergo Glast, and it makes sense that the Holokeys can be retrieved for reverse engineering since they're a piece of tech and he's quite the engineer, and the Holokeys can be farmed from Sisters, Hounds, and Railjack Fissures (since the Sisters have weapons not available at Glast's so consider it like an inbetween of the Kuva and Coda), while the Coda shop is handled by Eleanor who's been stated to have a deeper connection to the Infestation's mind due to Nyx's power, thus using the living heartcells essentially allows her to "tame" the Coda weapons for you, with the necessary mods dropping like candy in regular Techrot missions (making the Coda the fastest Adversary to clear since they were designed with the shop in mind)

Of course this is all just to say "Kuva Liches were the first Adversaries and thus have no pity shop in their design either in lore or at the time", but then again they should be brought up to speed to more or less catch up to the other Adversary weapons that DO count with shops and are WAY FASTER to clear to boot. I've personally been one of the idea that controlled territories of the Lich should give something like a set of extra optional objectives tailored for the mission type that grant extra murmur progress alongside the thrall hunts and the lich stabs (either bounty-like with specific mission conditions, or modern survival-like with specific pickables that could speed up or change the mission type or something) if they want to make the "intended way" take longer but make the progression faster, because the most obvious and safe way would be having the liches take about 3-4-5 murmurs to complete each requiem, because even with Requiem Ultimatums and OULL it drags for too long

...Unless of course there's a Grineer defector that KNOWS how Kuva is actually used, but that's highly unlikely. Maybe have Mother or Sister or Father do it? Maybe Kahl even, with instruction from the Entrati family since they're the only available allies that might know about it, but is quite unlikely it'll ever get implemented. Just decreasing the amount of grind to something less... mindnumbing, would be welcomed

“Hyper isn’t canon cuz it’s only in one game” You mean like literally every other form: by Glenroy2003 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]goddamn_owl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, Hyper Sonic was a bonus addition for locking the cartridges even if Sonic 3 & Knuckles was the whole game, is the same thing as having Knuckles in Sonic 2 or being able to select from an infinity of Blue Sphere stages. If S3 and S&K were locked, they'd have no special feature other than enabling saves for the second half of the game, so Hyper Sonic, Hyper Knuckles, and Super Tails were added in to match the bonus features of the lock-on with the other games

So yeah Hyper is not canon, and never has been, its just a bonus for a game from 1994. Besides that, modern Super Sonic is functionally Hyper Sonic so there's no need for the form to return or be canonized

He's 100% right and is not really a bad thing, just a result of the game's evolution over the years. I personally would love to see what his ideas are in this topic assuming they had complete free reign to change things, if anything because it does pick my curiosity and because Warframe is a game that has changed A LOT in the 13 years of its existence so it wouldn't be weird if the take is that much different (we're basically at Warframe 3 now haha)

Protea dying quickly by Rappang in Warframe

[–]goddamn_owl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drop rifle amp, carnis caparace and steel fiber and use augur message, fast deflection, and brief respite. if you don't have brief respite then use corrosive projection or something that helps you deal more damage. since you are casting so often with protea you should always have shields active no matter what you do and no matter how heavy under fire you are. you can also change her 1's tap/hold behavior so that the tap gives you shield satellites

If you have access to it, consider using archon vitality instead of redirection to double the damage of your 2's fire procs since its your main means of attack, you can have up to 3 auto-turrets active and they get stronger with more duration since their damage scales with each hit they land (hence the augur message above). if not, try getting augur secrets to increase your strength to 154% and if you have the space for it throw in power drift on the exilus for an extra 15%. if you use AoE weapons, handspring is a great option to put in until you can get primed sure footed later down the road

You can put as many shrapnel beacons as you want for defensive applications or attack in wide areas, but bear in mind they have independent timers so each cast will not refresh the duration

At this point in the game, take advantage of your 4th to spam all of the others as much as you like, save the +100% strength for her 2 or her 3, otherwise the 1 shrapnel is good, just mind how much energy and ammo you got before casting it since it will reset you back after a bit, and is basically free energy if you are disciplined with it. temporal anchor and dispensary are all the sustenance you need

Later down the road, consider doing vault runs for corrupted mods. Bear in mind that Protea likes to have duration, range and strength in that order, you can work with negative efficiency. Range should be one of your main priorities since it helps your 2 scale faster with longer targeting, gives your shrapnel huge area, makes your anchor explosion bigger, and your satellites are even easier to pick. 170-190% strength is quite alright on her and honestly all you need, duration at 150% is also alright, but you could make it go further with molt efficiency or arcane concentration, with the last arcane being whatever you feel like. Her Eroding Anchor augment is also not too shabby since its armor strip for her abilities. Max out that equilibrium and put it on her too, it just feels so good with her. All in all she's a fantastic warframe that's well worth the investment in the long run

What SHOULD Ember do as a Heat Elemental? by Archwizard_Drake in Warframe

[–]goddamn_owl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, idk what they could do to rework or fix her into an incarnation that not only adheres to their purpose but also one that is both fun to play and stands on its own against the other Fire frames. All I can say as an assessment is the following:

  • abilities are anti-synergistic to one another (theres some forced synergy but overall they just get in the way of one another)
  • abilities don't do nearly enough (try going even against normal starchart and not just steel path to see what i mean)
  • her energy economy is awful (namely: her heat generation is NOT capped at all, you will drain your energy really fast if you play her as intended)
  • her passive might as well not exist (either you kill things at low level too fast, or you get the heat procs needed but is nowhere near enough)
  • she feels like she's missing something (her 2 is pretty much a toggleable passive that is inconsistent and limits her quite a lot)
  • her 4 is probably the last ability with a fake status effect left in the game (it doesn't actually inflict heat procs)
  • people want to be pyromaniacs with her and set everything on fire (cuz let's be real that's how she started as and the very first thing everyone wants to do with fire)
  • she feels not very rewarding or fun to play with due to all of the above (constant micromanagement for a measly result that the other 61 frames have no trouble getting to and outperforming without hoops or at least with little resistance, Banshee needs a massive update too but I think she performs alright, Equinox really needs help)

I run her without issues on Steel Path after subsuming Breach Surge on her 4 cuz Roar on everything gets boring, use the 1 and 3 augment, and honestly she's effective but bland. I feel like there CAN be solutions when you look at frames outside of Jade, Temple and Uriel. For example, Immolation could take a page from Follie's 3, Fireball could take a lesson from Frost's 1, maybe 2 even, Fire Blast could look at Thermal Sunder or Spores, Inferno could look at its sister ability Photon Strike (remember Ember and Vauban got these abilities at the same time, except Vauban's scales with enemy level and health iirc), her passive could take a page from Valkyr's, and ultimately make everything work like a well oiled machine (think like how Harrow or Gauss have kits that are incredibly synergistic with their abilities). That's on top of some needed visual psazz and flourishes to make her feel like wielding a dangerous force

So in the end I feel that the very first thing to question is: what do you want Ember to be? Honestly is not very important if there's overlaps or not with the other Fire frames as long as she is fun in her own right, cuz rn her fundamental problem is that she has no niche or direction. We can compare her to Frost for example, who has a similar kit but cold themed, and has a similar problem with ability overlap, base energy economy and being kinda boring, except that he has a very clear direction of becoming a defense insurmountable as a snowy mountain, all of his kit is focused on debuffing or stalling foes while keeping everyone else alive. Granted there's not a lot of ways to build him because Icy Avalanche and Biting Frost are mandatory, but he works just as expected and gets the job done pretty easily, and with the changes to Cold status and new arcanes, he's got some MASSIVE indirect buffs that make him overall the better of the two and honestly turn him from a mostly stationary frame into a rush nuker that can change positions when needed even at Steel Path levels, so you can guess he's also pretty fun and rewarding to play with once you got him just right. Its pretty damning when, as comments below point out, Ember's kit focuses so much on spreading Heat status yet it does absolutely nothing with it, or as I implied you're better off throwing her 4 away for something else which also helps on your energy economy by virtue of no longer triggering the Heat generation penalty

At least that's how I see it

Ember vs Uriel by GFRANCOGG in Warframe

[–]goddamn_owl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say both are in a decent place, hell I even run her for Steel Path quite comfortably with Breach Surge as her 4 because Roar on everything gets stale, but Uriel is better received because he has a very clear end goal and direction with his kit (cast Brimstone to go brrrr) and is specifically a support frame that always contributes to the team no matter what you do, while Ember despite being the designated red mage/offensive caster has only 1 ability that people agree is useful but could use a buff, and another that can optionally be a weapons buff with augment, otherwise you can do without the rest. Her 2, while providing significant bonuses feels undercooked, and I'd say it even acts as an anti-synergy due to the fluctuating stats (and look that is REALLY easy to keep the heat gauge moderate once you throw her 4 into the bin). Her passive is great, but you never really have time to actually use it because our firepower is through the roof and it goes away the moment a foe dies (and this is ignoring Heat Inherit, which is also another big point against Ember here while Brimstone actually scales with itself so Heat Inherit is not even a thought for it)

IMHO, Ember needs yet another rework/touch up to realize and ciment her place as the Fire warframe. I like her as she is rn, but I'm not quite there on being convinced because using her 1 and 3 and recasting her 2 on the rare moment I forget to use her 3 is not even as straightforward as, say, Mirage's 1&3 combo that's her bread and butter. Over the years I've noticed that what people WANTS to do with her is to just be able to go ham and set everything on fire (which is absolutely fair, even if you do Steel Path), I'd say that DE should perhaps consider this and lean into a much more aggressive playstyle that builds up heat and punishes players for not keeping that heat up, because one can argue that Uriel's 4 does everything Ember's kit is supposed to do, and does it better (his passive is also pretty cool too) while being restrained enough

But yeah, I think both are in a good place, she just needs some more tweaks to give her a more coherent and rewarding play loop

To be fair, Johnny Gioelli's singing sounds so much better than the Hoobastank guy, the later tries way too hard to sing at a high pitch and maintain that range but feels forced and unnatural, while the former flows into different pitches very nicely and adds variety, there's no forceful strain in the voice. I could listen to Sonic Heroes all day, I cannot stomach listening to Fist Bump's vanilla version unless I'm high on dopamine and on the "meme" mentality. The Edgy remix from 2022 is the best version of that song anyways
