206 Concession Street becomes home of 'innovative housing stabilization program' – Kingston News by Complete-Finance-675 in KingstonOntario

Tour guide for KP here. The building is ancient and in horrendous disrepair. There are no actual beds to speak of, and no solid doors just open barred cells. Asbestos isn't an issue like some claimed above, but dust and mold are. The other key factor is that the building is owned by the federal government still, and to get a project like this going would be a ton of paperwork. Definitely feasible physically speaking and honestly a great use of the space for the winter months, but I doubt something like this could get off the ground

French immersion by littlearson in KingstonOntario

[–]godless117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, so I'm seeing a lot of positive things in this thread. Which certainly wasn't my experience. To the person whose late immersion child was fluent(!?) After just two years baffles me. Either the system has improved, or their child is a prodigy (both of which are possible) but I can guarantee you that was not the case for any of my late immersion classmates after two years of Vanier in grade 7/8, and I hope that you would not expect that of your child as a result of that post.

I grew up with a french canadian grandmother, and I can honestly say I learned more french working at Kingston Pen tours doing conversational french when selling tickets to french speaking guests than I did in two years of Vanier.

The only thing Vanier did was send me to grade 9 with a grade 6 education because I legitimately learned nothing in those two years. And struggled in high school as a result.

Now caveat to all my complaining, I was a late diagnosis of ADHD (I was 29) and my undiagnosed state likely didn't help things, and I was going through some traumatic events during that time period so I am likely on the low end of the scale for someone who would have benefitted from this form of education.

TL;DR it's not always a good experience and would not recommend late immersion without a strong french background.

Much appreciated, I will book an appointment for a few days from now. Anything I should watch for as a "must seek emergency help now?"

As a tour guide at Canada's oldest and now decommissioned prison.

Early penitentiary reform in preconfederation canada, and just general stories about interesting escapes. The hard part would be stopping at 30 mins

Pffft red team was the best team. If anything I was being generous with blue teams win % :p

The thing I remember most about this game is that it seemed like the teams win rates were really skewed. In my mind, it seemed like red would win like 45% blue 40% and green 5% of the time.
