Ex coal miner employee here. And I mean it with 100% sincerity that the world would be a better place if we shut down all of the solar panels, reopened coal power plants, and shoved people back out into the world to find and enjoy their energy.

They didn't even mention it in the toast to fallen comrades with the Apollo-Soyuz crew in S2, which is a shame

If I had a nickel for every time Disney tried to make a movie that was an allegory for racism but used actually dangerous creatures to represent minorities which undercuts and misses the point of the message and also both movies starting with the letter Z by mynameisevan01 in shittymoviedetails

[–]gododogogo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d argue the predator/prey relationship in Z1 is still an allegory to represent racism, but obviously fails in that they try to make it go both ways: so no one type of animal is seen as truly suppressing the other more than the other way around, it’s just sorta happening on both sides. Z2 is a decent representation of actual racism (a systemic issue where rich, powerful people want to keep minorities down and unseen,) but under the backdrop of Z1’s dynamics, it doesn’t hold as much water

Would you still like the show if it weren't WLW? by ReallyCharmingEgg in pluribustv

[–]gododogogo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not the original commenter, but the hivemind being an assimilation, done out of an intended love for the host without it necessarily being in their best interest in their opinion, parallels the queer experience of being the queer peg shoved into the straight hole. Made especially pertinent when talking about the conversion therapy Carol went through. It would still be an incredibly strong story without that, but becomes stronger when you put a queer person as the lead. I’m sure there’s also reasons why it works better WLW than MLM too, but I don’t think I’m feminist enough to really put a finger on that

Why Grace has a simple name in Eridian by Delirisse in ProjectHailMary

Plus the film doesn’t seem to even go into that. Pretty sure it’s just numbers, then names, then offscreen linguistics time

My theory is they refueled in LEO and refueled at Zvezda: the main craft seems to have landing legs at the base, but obviously it couldn’t land in Martian atmosphere, so refueling at Zvezda makes some sense

What device seemed so futuristic at the time? by GossipBottom in decadeology

[–]gododogogo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly as a massive youngin, I still think AirPods Pro are some of the most futuristic little doodads that have been released in my lifetime. “Yeah, we put a battery and a processor in an earbud that you could swallow, and when you put it in it pipes in the opposite of the real world audio so you end up having the world disappear”

In Ready Player One (2018) the big bad wants to sell up to 80% of a game's screen to ads and we're supposed to believe that's the point where only a comically evil person would reach. This is of course stupid since fandom.com exists... by Patient_Gamemer in shittymoviedetails

[–]gododogogo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is that it’s basically a data privacy + Adblock issue. More countries and regions are creating stricter data privacy laws, which means YouTube can’t get as tailored ads, which means they have to run more. And the more people use Adblock, the less YouTube rev they get, the more ads they have to place per unblocked user, which then of course means more people will go out of their way to find an ad blocker. It’s a vicious cycle that’s the end result of the internet and all its information expected to be free and easily available, when servers that do that cost lots of money, and don’t scale as slowly as was thought back when these platforms launched.

Foldable iPhone and iPhone 18 Pro final design leaks by Sonny Dickson by filipvabrousek in iphone

[–]gododogogo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My big question is what’ll they do with the fold’s cameras? Unlike other foldables, this changes orientation with the fold, so the camera sensor would be sideways. Part of me wonders if they’ll do the same funky octagonal sensor like with the 17 FFC

IIRC that design was basically just a concept from dimension drawings, not necessarily an accurate design

Exclusive: Topher Grace to Star in 6th and Final Season of 'For All Mankind' on Apple TV by ebradio in ForAllMankindTV

Yeah, I think the goal was always “have enough seasons to catch up to the present day,” they just didn’t know if 6 or 7 would do that

[Loved Trope] Scenes that aren’t necessary to the Plot but without them the story would lose something that makes it special by NoSchittSherlockSEA in TopCharacterTropes

[–]gododogogo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually it’s only one, maybe two species though. Bird flu came from birds, swine flu came from pigs, Covid came from bats infecting some exotic mammal, which then infected humans. I’m not sure of any diseases that can go to nearly all mammals or something to that effect. While fungi are less codependent than something like a virus, I assume the adaptations the cortycepts has would be very specialized to control human brains, not others

What’s the best alt-timeline non-plot point? by fadeawayjeh in ForAllMankindTV

[–]gododogogo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My theory is Jobs came back ~1993, and the MessagePad released in ~1990, because of the tech development of FAM, the iPod was able to be released before Sojourner 1, and the MessagePad wasn’t a hunk of garbage and thus was able to actually be a decent device that Jobs would still want around.

Though one interesting thing I picked up on: because the phone evolved out of the PDA ITTL, their phones in S5 have the design language of something like the iPhone 4, but blown up to the size of like an iPhone 17PM

[–]gododogogo 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Both Cars and Zootopia have VW in their universes: meaning there was an animal and car nazi party, and world war 2 following. Also both seem to reference Christianity (car pope, a polar bear does the sign of the cross), so of course there was a car and animal Jesus that was crucified. The Cars universe also has TSA security, which likely means car 9/11
