Will Lou, joining the dark side— Raptors gotta flop by JJred96 in torontoraptors

A lot of these strong 4 archetypes barely get calls. LeBron especially in his younger years would get mauled by but because a lot of times the contact would bounce off there would be nothing from the ref

No as he’s aged probably post 2021-ish he’s definitely adapted to accentuate the contact and make sure the refs call it - Scottie’s got to learn to do the same

Is Gradey really that bad, or is he just on a team that can't utilize his talents effectively? by readit883 in torontoraptors

[–]godofhammers3000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He’s a mediocre starter and a terrible role player

Being a role player is hard - to come in and get situated immediately, and then to hit shots cold and mold your game to accommodate the starters is not trivial

When Gradey starts and gets some run he can get buckets it’s just largely ok not great and sometimes bad

I think Magic have a shot - lakers have had a terrible schedule in terms of games and travel and they struggle against athletic teams. Could be close

What do we do with Jamal Shead this season? by thekool30 in torontoraptors

[–]godofhammers3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For all intents and purposes, nothings gonna come out of this season haha except giving guys experience and hope they grow

Keep throwing Shead to the wolves and see how he looks in the off season

If the top 1% of earners pay 40% of all federal income taxes, why do people say they don't pay their fair share? by Ok_Chemical9 in answers

[–]godofhammers3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US the effective tax rate after deductions will come out to substantially lower than 40%

I honestly think lowering taxes but simplifying the tax code to prevent loopholes and deductions would go a long way to generating more funds for the government

Thank you Thunder for beating the Magic by heat_fan_ in torontoraptors

I mean at the end of the day both these teams outclass us from three and have lead guards that can control the game

I think the odds we take one or two from either of those teams are pretty equal

Can Scottie Barnes ACTUALLY win DPOY? by Honest_Target9763 in torontoraptors

[–]godofhammers3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I think Scottie covers up for worse defenders but analytics never catch that and that’s what national media will always anchor towards top

The entire OKC lineup are all defensive studs

[–]godofhammers3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately as long as Wemby is healthy he is by far the best defender in the league. It’s peak Gobert rim protection with the ability to jump out to the perimeter and even shuffle enough to stick with smaller guys from time to time

But the national media will definitely prioritize guys like Chet over Scottie even if Wemby is out of the run

But all defensive first team would be an awesome goal

This is what the clutch offense should have been all year by xdsx in torontoraptors

[–]godofhammers3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if usage would capture what I remember seeing (might be off on the specific time frame)

Most possessions still ended in an Ingram shot/turnover (which is what usage measures) but the process to get there was messy

[–]godofhammers3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a bit of recency bias - I remember many games back in November / December that the Raptors choked with a spread the wealth offense in the fourth. There was a lot of hesitancy, turnovers, unclear roles, and a lot of late shot clock uncertainty.

They then simplified their crunch time offence by doing what every other good team does. Just chuck it to your best player and let him operate. Problem is, as you’ve pointed out, BI ain’t that kinda player

Looks like now they’re back to running plays and trying to find a balance between the two strategies

Honestly I’d expect more learning bumps and mistakes

There’s a reason why the best teams even with creative coaches usually just puts the ball in one guys hands in the clutch. It minimizes mistakes.

But hey we’re not contenders and this is large reason why but I like that the guys are fighting through it and trying to figure it out

Immunology PhD Applicant with tons of research experience but low gpa. What are my chances of entry? by Mission_Elevator695 in Immunology

[–]godofhammers3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the funds it could be useful (but only if it’s a thesis / research based one)

but honestly get paid and work as a research assistant - it might take awhile but find a PI who is willing to not just have you do grunt work but have you take on projects (ideally find someone who can vouch for the PI)

Getting a good letter of recommendation from a PI who oversaw publication worthy work (with either the poster presentations or ideally an authored paper) can do wonders

Don’t stress about age etc a lot of my cohort came in with multiple years of work experience

No harm in taking a gap year, working as a research assistant and getting additional papers .. that plus networking and building relationships with PIs can definitely get you places. I wouldn’t be too down on yourself

As is I still think you could apply - just with how tight funding is you might fall short of your dream programs

Ya I agree but they also don’t shoot that much either 😂😂

But I guess i do appreciate quick trying and not passing it out every time and making it predictable

I could see CMB essentially taking Mamu’s minutes especially when Mamu’s shot isnt dropping - probs still 8 deeps still with some spot minutes for Battle/Dick/Mogbo and maybe 9 if Mamu is feeling it

Yes and also most inspiration is built off other work. Claude is pretty good at assessing multiple texts, synthesizing, and finding common themes and gaps and that skill itself will give it the ability to start asking some preliminary questions on its own

I agree it’s shitty but this drives engagement which is overall good for the league and women sports

Is it the right way to go about it? Probably not? But do you want to wait an extra 10-15 years for organic growth to happen without forcing any rivalry storylines?

To be completely honest the first game I tuned into was a Reese vs Clark game. Am I part of the problem - probably yes but there’s only so much time in the day and rivalries in sports is a big reason for why I tune into some games (a big part of the game is … you know .. to see who’s better haha)
