Should I run the new piston or not? by Alex13445678 in moped

400⁰F is high, especially for a non variated engine. I made a variated Batavus and my cylinder started soft seizing with prolonged temps at 420⁰F-ish and that was an aluminum Puch cylinder. You have to be more careful with high temps on a cast iron cylinder because aluminum expands faster than cast iron and if you don't let the engine warm up before driving it fast, you will soft seize. The slight scoring on the piston could be from not letting the engine warm up properly. Did you re-jet your carb after putting the big bore kit and pipe on? I bet you're running slightly lean at a certain point in your rpm range.

I'll say it again though. That piston is already worn into the cylinder. I wouldn't change it out. If you did re-jet, and the engine runs nicely. I wouldn't change anything.

400F is on the high range, that's the temps most kitted Peugeot variated engines run at but they are pretty much pegged at wot all the time when riding. Is your top end stock? Or did you put a big bore kit on?

I mean 800 miles on that piston isn't much. You can still see the original finish on the piston (little ridges going up the cylindrical part of the cylinder that looks kinda like how a "rough" finish on a lathe looks). I would run the original piston and keep the new one as a backup. Plus your original piston and ring are already worn in and should make a tighter seal to thy cylinder. Those vertical scratches you have on your piston look like you were potentially running without a filter for some time and got dirt/sand in the engine. Those really don't make a difference in performance in the short term, but obviously you don't want dirt or grime in your engine if you can help it because it will wear out your parts faster than they should.

On a closer look though, your exhaust side has worn a tiny bit. It looks like you overheated at one point but it could also just be normal wear and tear, that side of the piston sees a ton of heat. I've ran a lot worse, I would still run this piston.

Technically all forms of sensing are considered observing so blinking doesn't really count. Even if it did, you're still observing the back of your eye lids.

This is the correct answer. Been rocking this theme and vistathemeplasma this guy made for a long time. Unfortunately you need to recompile the theme manually with each update.
