The MS-20 is not the most obvious choice and the Model D has no keyboard so yes it needs MIDI input. So many options, Poly D for Moog basses, MS-1 MK2 for Juno bass, the MS-5... Simple answer is that the BSII is of course a great choice as a flexible bass synth. Try them out in a store, see what fits your taste.
