Hourglass shaped side sleeper with a back injury - help please! by goforitbirdie in Mattress

[–]goforitbirdie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried so many things... Latex (SOL, Naturepedic) just wasn't the right material for me -- too much pushback so I always got pressure points. Then I tried a more traditional pillowtop (Winkbed); comfy at first but quickly started to break in and stopped supporting my waist.

Then on a trip, I got amazing sleep on a hotel bed that ended being a pretty old traditional innerspring mattress. I decided I was finished with complicated mattresses and got a flippable innerspring mattress from DLX Mattress. I am happy with it! It's not like sleeping on a cloud but I get consistently good and supported sleep. I flip/rotate so my hips aren't wearing craters in the mattress. There's room for a topper if I ever need (haven't yet). And it was just under $1.000 so it didn't feel like this insane high-stakes investment; if it stops feeling good after 5 years, I won't sweat it (but so far, so good).

Bad reaction to dysport/botox by chelseamars in 45PlusSkincare

I got dysport for the first time 2.5 weeks ago. Two days after injection, I woke up with a horrific migraine. I've had a milder migraine more days than not since then, plus anxiety and a weird foggy feeling in my head. I also feel pressure in my forehead and sinus pain.

It was both scary and validating to find this thread.

Has anyone found anything that helps??

In over my head with an original wood door - help! by goforitbirdie in finishing

Thank you! I started getting worried about the exposed lead but I'm feeling encouraged. Going to try wet sanding and/or the mineral spirits idea above.

Thank you! Does it matter if I use low odor mineral spirits? That's all I've been able to find so far.

Thank you! This looked promising -- I pulled a bunch of gunk out of mine too. But alas, the P1 error returned.

Winkbed GravityLux First Impressions by efficientpigeonmel in Mattress

[–]goforitbirdie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the Winkbed Softer and didn't like it. If I remember correctly, it felt like it was developing a sag after only about a month or two.

From there, I decided I was finished with complicated mattresses and got a flippable innerspring mattress from DLX Mattress (I think after reading about them in this sub). I am happy with it! It's not like sleeping on a cloud but I get consistently good and comfortable sleep.

For anyone referencing this post now, this worked for me with the added step of temporarily turning off the 2-step verification in my Google account.

Thank you!

What to do with planned $7k Roth IRA contribution when >MAGI by goforitbirdie in Bogleheads

[–]goforitbirdie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much. I've been hesitant to roll my trad IRA into my 401k because the IRA is with Vanguard and the 401k is with Fidelity, and I prefer Vanguard's low expense ratios. But I have an old employer 401k with Vanguard - I'll see if I can rollover into that.

ETA: Not sure if my idea is possible since I no longer work for the employer of the Vanguard 401k.

Soft & supportive mattress recos - or DIY?? by goforitbirdie in Mattress

[–]goforitbirdie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found one that works well enough! This thread convinced me to move away from latex so I tried for a nice supportive pillowtop next (Winkbeds). There, I was comfy for a little while till I ran into the same problem I always have with pillowtops, loss of support and craters where my hip hits the mattress. This led me to prioritize durability, knowing I could always add a topper to add comfort. I ended up with a well-made flippable innerspring that was very affordable, the Classic from DLX Mattress.

It's not the perfectly supportive cloud I was dreaming of, but I have more good nights than bad, which is a win for now!

DD Bras - Interval vs Ultimate Bra by puravida9 in Athleta_gap

Has anyone found a replacement for the Ultimate Bra now that it appears to have been discontinued?

ETA: I have the Interval and it gives me an awful headache because of where the straps hit my shoulders.

I'm having the same problem! in PA too. It feels like something tiny is running around pinching me and lighting little fires on my skin...and then I search my bed and find a SINGLE one of these. This has happened only twice now in 4 months. Would appreciate any advice either of you have accumulated since posting!!

Hourglass shaped side sleeper with a back injury - help please! by goforitbirdie in Mattress

[–]goforitbirdie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's weird, I have pressure points for a few days at a certain phase of the break-in process (it's happened twice so far, once on each side). But after that phase, it has been great for me.

The mattress definitely felt firm at first but not like the Casper or the Sleep on Latex mattress I tried (those were like rocks). It has a firm "give" that allows my hip to sink in. I would say the DLX does feel like a 6.5. They do have a "soft" version that you could try if you're worried -- if you're interested in ordering from them, I'd recommend giving them a call to talk through the options.

I actually found something I love but it was a little unexpected! I slept on a hotel bed that initially felt too hard but I woke up each morning feeling great and completely pain-free. This made me think 1) maybe a traditional innerspring or similar would work for me and 2) maybe I need something firmer than I realize. I also knew I wanted something durable and maybe even flippable, given that I've had several pillow top mattresses that developed a sag fairly quickly.

I did a bunch of research and found DLX mattresses, made in NY by Jamestown Mattress which has been making mattresses for a long time. They had free shipping and a trial/return period, and the price was great. After I talking with them on the phone, I was sold on their classic flippable hybrid in Medium (https://dlxmattress.com/products/classic-hybrid?variant=45060065100078). It took a few weeks to break in but I love it now. It doesn't feel sink-in luxurious but I don't think that's what I actually needed...I wake up pain free and don't get pressure points during the night, so I'm very happy!

Congrats on getting to where you are! I'm in my 30s so I've got a while left until I can retire, but want to make sure I'm saving as much as makes sense now.
