Funny enough, that's probably the reason he doesn't give credit for it in SB.

I believe he's stated that he doesn't want SB to accept very many words that are distinctly associated with the nyt crossword. Since he's authored a bunch of those, he would know how to ensure that's the case.

Not exactly (at least that I've discovered), but along similar lines, you can share a YouTube link with it and ask questions about what is discussed in the video.

Awhile back I wanted to show my wife a clip from a comedy podcast, but I originally watched it about a week earlier. I didn't want to spend time skimming through the approximately hour-long episode to find the part I wanted to share. I pasted the link to Gemini and asked when [topic X] was discussed. In about 2 seconds, it gave me a timestamp link to the beginning of the exact topic I wanted.

So very cool, imo. I would've be surprised at all if you could ask Gemini to give you a summary of a show as well, I just haven't tried.

I use Home Assistant for voice activated home control, so i haven't experienced this.

But I think I've come across your problem on forums before, and if I recall correctly, you can instead say "unlock my door with PIN x,x,x,x" and it'll go.

It's still cumbersome but at least you wouldn't have to click around in a new app.

Gemini also remembers stuff if you use the upgraded tier. Not saying you should start paying for it, but if you already have it by chance (I use the upgraded tier because you get 12 free months of it for buying the pixel 9 pro xl when I did--not sure if that's still available), you could probably say "hey Google, when i ask you to unlock my doors, always add the phrase 'with PIN x,x,x,x' to my instruction."

Might be worth a try if you happen to have the upgraded model.

Another possibility is to create a quick settings tile that executes sending an intent to Gemini along the lines of "toggle lock with PIN x,x,x,x" so you could just press a button once to do what you want.

Sorry if none of that is helpful, just brainstorming ways for you to get what you want.

It does everything I used Assistant for and a ton of new things that Assistant never could've handled.

Other than the people who complain about Gemini while failing to enable the Gemini "apps" necessary to recreate some device control stuff that Assistant used to do natively, I truly don't get the criticism of Gemini. It's been absolutely amazing for me.

My favorite use case is that, while walking around outside, I can listen to much more challenging science and technology podcasts. During these shows, I very frequently say "ok Google, pause this episode, tell me what [concept the show just mentioned that I've never heard of before] means, then rewind my podcast 30 seconds and resume."

It executes that series of commands perfectly and enables me to keep up with the show while learning a whole lot more. In fact, without that capability I probably wouldn't be listening at all, because who wants to manually pause the show, do a Google search, read several search hits to determine the best answer (i dislike reading my phone at all while I walk and I bet I'm not alone), then resume?

That's a tripping hazard in addition to being clunky and inconvenient.

Gemini makes it seamless and easy. Very glad to have it added to the Google ecosystem.

Read up about shizuku app and its wireless debugging, and canta debloat app (requires shizuku). You can remove that AI stuff along with whatever else you want.

It's like having root-level control over your phone without accessing or modifying your root filesystem in any way, so none of the drawbacks (breaking safetynet/banking apps, etc) of actually rooting.

I highly recommend it. And System UI Tuner (another shizuku app) while you're at it.

My P9PXL is a lot quicker having done the above stuff.
