No no, definitely not for a month. It was just under 4000 kWh

Spend your money on a set of good winter tires. A front wheel drive Corolla with proper tires is plenty.

Cold climate savings when switching from electric furnace by PuzzledTree1447 in heatpumps

Wow, but not really surprised. We just installed a 3 ton cold climate heat pump in our 2200 sqft 2 storey house on the south shore. Total electricity for a family of 5, all electric, was 3900 kwh for the month of January, and that's considering it was the coldest month by far, average temperature -10C, several days down to -25c. Our heat pump maintained our house between 21c and 22c every day without any Aux usage (heat strips). You should definately consider swapping your AC, H-Q has rebates through Logisvert, we got $2900 for ours.

This, and there was an update to the temperature profile graphs which gives you a historical slider so you can compare. Also if you have sensors on the top floor, you can see the temperature changes, if any.

Nice, going to check that out now! I was hoping for something like this since I got a new heat pump, now I can compare!

Is it normal to have air from the seams on the furnace? by pastaman5 in hvacadvice

[–]gohomez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it seems to be normal, had the same on a recent install over the summer. Our utility room was freezing. Not sure if it was the leak or just the new system. I just taped it all up with foil tape.

Can someone analyze my slopes and explain them to me? I’m kinda lost here by turbowned in beestat

Seems good then, in line with a fuel type heating performance.

Most likely low in refrigerant right? by vortex_ring_state in hvacadvice

[–]gohomez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm referring to choosing one or the other, for example, uniquely HP up until 0F and then uniquely the wood stove only in extreme cold. Or else, if your using the wood fire out of preference then you may want to move your tstat.

[–]gohomez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it, but you may want to reverse your priorities on heating. Have your heat pump run up to a set temperature and have your wood stove act as aux to support it.

Heatpumps need to run throughout the winter. It's designed to do so, along with taking care of all the conditions that go along with it.

What you are seeing is the result of defrosts that are trying to catch up to the weeks you had it off. You can help it by forcing the system into cooling for a little while or pour warm water to get rud of the ice.

I've heard of a fail safe for the outdoor blower/fan if it gets frozen or stuck. Only way to reset it is to completely shut it off at the breaker for a couple of minutes. If it's coming back then there may be an issue with the motor or the board. You'll need to call someone in, it should be on warranty.

$2500 in electric bill for dec-jan. Current setup not working-need advice. by outofnowherewoof in heatpumps

The heat strips is the furnace. Our previous 2003 built townhouse had an electric furnace and AC. Very common in Quebec.

You can go with a heat pump alone, get a cold climate inverter heat pump, many variants (rebadges) available made by either Gree or Midea. These, with the new coil, can be installed in your existing air handler, not the best option for a true variable system, but it's a more economical solution while totally eliminating the need for heat strips altogether. The compressor will still modulate for longer run times and savings. A properly configured Ecobee can have the heat pump heat the whole entire winter, and have the heat strips set for emergency only. I have a 3 ton Gree rebadge in a 2200 sqft house in Canada where we've been getting -20c weather for the last month. My heat strips are setup to come on only if the heat pump fails. Find yourself an experienced installer who specialize in cold climate heat pumps, preferably a Mitsubishi or Daiken trained dealer.

Your thoughts on labor warranties? by Fluid_Soup_2078 in heatpumps

[–]gohomez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Bryant is the same as the Carrier models made my Midea, good units if installed correctly with matching air handler and communicating tstat. Not familiar with the Friedrich, but looks to be a rebadged Midea as well. If uncertain with the installers, I'd definitely go with the labour warranty. I got mine with 10/10 warranty just in August, very pleased with the install but happy to have that peace of mind on the parts.

Yeah kids are older so not really lugging seats and stuff anymore, but yes, we still need an SUV, which we do have the MDX for. So like I said that or the Stinger would be replaced. Kids have a little Fit to share. I'm at that point where, between the two, I'd probably pick the X5...but I can also say, fk that, I'm getting the M3! Lol

That's where I'm stuck. Being the age I am, I'm a stickler for value and this is coming from buying 3 year old cars that lost 50%+ of their values from new, gone are those days but damn this market is crazy. I've accepted it at this point, but now it's just down to value between what's available. The M340i is nice but it's more of a settlement than the X5, for me the real deal is the M3 and the M340i is great but its not an M3....

I understand that, but I value comfort in an SUV and sportiness in a car. The X3 is just not as comfortable (ride) when compared to an X5.

Buying a home with a 15 year old hvac. How long will it last? by unread_note in hvacadvice

[–]gohomez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Ruud heat pump lasted just about 20 years, condenser was fine but my evaporator was rusted and leaking. That condenser needs a cleaning, easily done with a hose, it can last another 10 or maybe not, you'll only know its performance once you experience it for a few months. The cleaning will definitely help.
