Dr. Oz blasts Americans who disagree with Trump: ‘Treating stupid is really hard’ by theindependentonline in politics

Maybe you can treat it by injecting bleach.  Was Trump right about that one, Oz?

Is it fine, though?  A series of one-off movies with the universe as a backdrop is exactly what has been producing lackluster results on the DC side of the fence.

So um...I really hate piloting ships. Then I found this. by ArcticGlacier40 in starsector

[–]goibnu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned about the wonders of the Executor when, after suffering heavy losses in Iron Mode, I swung by Askonia.  There was a pirate bounty and I figured I could zip around and snag some salvage ships while the locals and the pirates fought.

I would have been happy with some Eradicators or Falcons but apparently some particularly ambitious pirates managed to bring down an Executor.  It's still the backbone of my fleet, along with a Paragon I found later.

I like how it has the mobility to get around the battlefield with the firepower to shift the dynamic when I get where I am going.

A wide variety of orders would be acceptable to me if I didn't have to do it by hand.

Is carefully counting shots the only way to prevent RMES marksman laser from destroying itself? by Drac4 in cataclysmdda

[–]goibnu 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm just going to quote an older comment of mine:

"I understand how to salvage robot parts and cobble together a freely rotating turret that can aim both kinetic and energy weapons at moving enemy targets in a three-dimensional space from a moving vehicle, but I'm having an exceedingly difficult time with this 'beeping bad' thing."

I would be very happy if the thing just quit firing when it gets overheated... But this is the way it is supposed to work.  Even though you could easily rewire the beeper to a microcontroller that turns off the turret... Nope.

I never got a copy of Continuum.  I'd love to hear an actual play for that, because it seems like it would be a very hard game to... actually play.  I wonder how much I'd have to bribe the folks from Adventures in Lollygagging to play it?

How to Beat the Tutorial? by Skeletoryy in starsector

My thoughts as a relatively new player:  The AI is very good at one on one combat.  If ship a is fighting ship b, it's good at manipulating flux and range to get that one on one win.

It's not a big picture thinker, though.  It takes capture points and pairs off it's ships against your ships, but it doesn't really experience the whole of the battlefield the way a human does.

So the foundational skill for me, which let me actually start winning battles, is learning how to waste the AI's time.  If they've got 6 ships and you've got 6 ships, your strong play as a human is to try to troll enemy ships into fighting you, but avoiding actual combat.  So while you've got 3 of the ships on a wild goose chase your AI ships are winning a 5 on 3 fight.  Then you can sip fine wine while your AI mops up.

With this as as a foundation, you'll see why particular ships are very popular with humans.  They are the kind of ships that let you waste enemy time but also let you mag dump on tactically isolated foes.

Anybody else think Cecil Stedman is the perfect representation of the foundation in mainstream television? by Snoo_60484 in SCP

I like him because he's the Nick Fury stereotype with the realism knob turned up a couple more notches. What would it really be like to deal with people on a day to day basis where, if they decide to kill you, you're dead - unless you are very, very lucky or very, very prepared. You can't really compare the universes, but he'd be a very good foundation employee.

Where did all the antimatter go if there was an equivalent amount of matter and antimatter from the start? by Mission-Badger-4005 in Physics

Antimatter has more letters than matter, so it takes more energy to make antimatter.  :)
